LEARNING TO USE PROSTHESIS Amputee Walking On Prosthesis For The First Time

  • Learning to walk in a prosthesis can be exciting and scary at the same time. Take your steps slowly and listen to your body!
This is my first prosthesis since my elective amputation on July 2, 2021. I have waited 8 weeks for this and I am super excited to live my life to the fullest again.
Learning to walk on a prosthetic leg for the first time is a slow and cautious process. Amputees generally use a walker, crutches, or other walking aids to begin slowly. As their residual limb desensitizes, they are able to walk more freely learning to balance in controlled movements.

@@ElectiveAmputation The surgery & recovery went fine. No real pain to speak of & no meds, which surprised me. I have zero phantom pain, although your video with the duct-taping of your toes kind of nails it. As far as my prosthesis, I had a bit of problem with some insurance issues (long story!), but it seems to be working well otherwise. I'm on day two of walking around my house & it's pretty consistent with your day 2. I'm really looking forward to the day that I can go shopping with my wife & not need one of the Walmart go-carts to get around the store. I'm even more looking forward to hiking, golf, and getting back on my motorcycle.

I know your excited about walking again. Take your time get use to your prosthetic and just maybe by the holidays you will be using only a cane. Stay safe and hop on. Yes it will take time for you and your body to adjust to it. Remember it takes about 30% more engry to walk now.

You did great starting out! I'm a ATK amputee for going on 3 years now and I started out with a walker and within 2 days put it aside and used a cane then found myself carrying it around so I put it aside and and have been doing good since...I just got a new knee and I'm waiting on my BOA socket. Do you struggle with phantom pains? Nerve pain?

Another thing is the surface you were walking outside was down hill when you walked away from the camera. When you walked back toward's the camera there was a slight up hill grade. I did see when you were inside it was a level surface. Not sure if you have found Footless Jo yet, she is a below the knee right leg below the knee amputee and also put's a lot of TH-cam video's might be helpfull.

  • @jamesmana5247

Hoping you or someone can help. I recently got my 2nd socket. (BTK) The edges at the knee level were ruff and tore a hole which in turn doesn't help the socket stay on properly. She put this 5 inch plastic over it to help?? Which it did not and in 2 days it was starting to ripe another hole. She used felt all the way around. This helped greatly. However, I started with a 3 ply sock within a week I went down to a 1 ply sock and after a few weeks I was down to a one ply. Then I went down to ZERO ply. I called and continued to let them know these things were happening. Now I am below ZERO or maybe I should say. I am in up to severe pain for about a 1/2 hour. Then I remove the socket for about an hour and put it back on and I do not seem to have as much of a problem. I saw my doctor and explained this to them and they pushed a script to them. Their answer back was.....................Jim is doing great and says he has no problems WTF. Others have seen what I am going through as well and have heard me talk to them on the phone. I asked the doctor about what they said and they are providing a copy of what they said. Maybe someone can explain to me what is happening with my leg because they sure the hell can not. Of course a 9 to 5 job doesn't help me and then knowledge of making notes is more then sloppy. YES I will be finding another after my next and final visit. Then I will fire them.

I am shocked how in 2 months you can get on a prosthesis. I still had stitches that were not healed, it hurt, there was swelling, but from another country, maybe in America they do such amputations better for you.

I think having a leg amputated can and is one of the most beautiful transformations that can happen to a woman. It makes her more desireable. More Sensual, and definitely more Erotic. Its not ugly, or disfiguring. I am also an amputee and find thaty many women love a guy with stump. In my case...NO FEET! Everyone has a fantasy person they would love to share their life with. I just prefer a beautiful woman inside and out without her feet or legs. OH!!!! She must LOVE animals!
