I'm so glad it's not just me that gets tongue tied doing this, it's hard work. Currently training for my part 3

The key to this is to plan ahead. There will always be that one occasion when things happen outwith your control and you have to be able to talk your pupil through the situation. Howard has made this particularly interesting and the PDI will never forget this. I remember when I qualified for the first time in 2004, this was a big part of the training for the PST format part 3. I have to say that I have just requalified (A 45/51) and Howards videos have been an great help to refresh my memory. Good Luck with your part 3.

Thanks Howard.. I really enjoy doing this with my daughter, I talk her through every single thing, maybe too much, if she gets too good I'll have no one to practice on 😂

Love this video. It's an essential skill and one that some ADI instructors forget to teach properly. I found this good fun when I learned to do it.

Great video Howard! It does seem impossible at the start but you are driving the car through the learner from the passenger seat. I found self commentary helped a lot when driving myself, even something as simple as stopping the car as saying stop isn’t enough, how do I stop the car… 👍🏼

Have to second this. I've also been practising self commentary - i.e. clutch down, into first gear, give it some gas, clutch up gently, etc etc and it does seem to help. 👍🏼

exactly, but 20 seconds sooner than you would do it yourself, to give the pupil time to digest what you have said and carry out the instruction, so it comes down to looking ahead and planning.
