I use to be homeless up untill january this year. I use to sit out side home bargains begging everyday. everyday fgor 12 moth a brown pigeon would come sit with me everyday and share food i got of customers. She once came with an broken egg stuck to her bottom, so i caught her and removed the shell. I am now in recovery and live in a lovely home. but that little pigeon got me through the covid lockdown and she was so inelligent, Just after 2 weeks i saw her in the main city of Wakefield, I saw a pigeon the same color as my pal, so i shouted and to my amazment, it was my pal. she flew out of the pack and wobbled running straight towards me lol xx

As someone that feeds them from my windowsill everyday, this warms my heart so much. You had/have an Angel🕊️ Also, I’m not surprised at your turn around. Feeding them brings good fortune💗

I know the cons all too well. I have my pigeon because I rescued him as a baby & nobody else was willing to care for him (the shelter told me to throw him out). So I've had to learn along the way and accept some limitations that come from living in a place where pigeons aren't a common pet.
I really love him though, I never thought a bird can be so affectionate and intelligent.

I have a wild pigeon who I found wondering in the undergrowth half a year ago and was bleeding. He ( I assume he is male as everything so far points to that) also had a damaged right eye that he cannot use anymore. Anyway after help from my vet to mend his eye and care from me he made a full recovery and now lives in my bathroom and loves being here. I cannot let him go as his damaged right eye would surely condemn him to death from predators but being a wild pigeon he is hardy and is enjoying his new life. This video has helped me lots so thank you very much.

One of the best and most realistic video about pet pigeons. I would like to add that VOCs are also present in paints (even the ones that have no smell, you have to look for no VOC paint), vinyl, wallpaper, new furniture, carpets... the list is very long, so all has to be checked or aired during long periods before you put it in your home. Many essential oils are either toxic or irritating to birds lungs and air sacs so you can't use them as air fresheners (not even those on stove boiling aromatics). No to hair sprays, hair mouse, nothing with tea tree oil, have to watch for toxic houseplants etc. Having a bird is a huge lifestyle change and you have to check that whole family is on board. When I adopted a rescued bird I did not expect how much clash I will have with my mother that denies that many things are harmful and I have to run around the house making sure if something has been "sprayed" I close my room and open all doors and windows in it. So don't make my mistake :)

we have a house pigeon (he prefers "house falcon"), named horus, & we love him sooooo much. we rescued him after he fell from the nest & was being shunned by his parents. he's about 4 & has bonded strongest with my teenage son, even though it was my younger daughter that actually rescued him. horus loves us all & enjoys being the center of attention -- with lots of petting! LOL thanks for such a great video, your bird is adorable. 💖💖💖💖💖 5/5

    great video.
i have several pet pigeons that were all rescued as babies and hand raised. i have a baby pigeon asleep in a pouch down the front of my top right now as i watch this.
they do make fantastic pets. i feel like i have learned so much about pigeons, birds in general and myself since my first pigeon baby entered my life.
i would also encourage people who are interested to look into pigeon rescue groups (palomacy etc).

I think this video is super well done tbh, the one silly little thing I’ll nitpick is that nesting poops aren’t only restricted to female birds, but any bird that sits on the eggs, and since some people give their single male pigeon feggs for whatever reason (like unemployed pigeon syndrome, when they don’t have enough stimulation) they would get to smell the nesting poops too lol

That is great knowledge about pet pigeons, appreciate you 🙏. I agree with you about the cons and pros. Feeding is much easier than parrots, you can add cons.
We also have 6 months pet pigeon, still don't know its gender but guessing male. We love too much our pet pigeon named Piko. He is pecking too much our feet and hands our biggest issue. First 2/3 months we could cuddle him but now he doesn't let it and start to peck. When he grows up maybe this will be getting normal.

Thank you very much for this video with lots of the cons of having a pigeon. Often when me and my pet humans are having a walk outside or are going to the park, other humans think that it's "easy" to have a pigeon as a pet.
My humans always try to explain that it takes A LOT of care and effort to properly care for a pigeon, especially if it's a single pigeon (like you mentioned). I'm a single (rescue) pigeon which does not go well with other pigeons AT ALL, but am happily bonded to one of my pet humans. I spend ALL day with this human (which works from home) and only have to be in my nighttime cage when I either have to sleep or when my pet humans has to go somewhere where I'm not allowed (like a hospital for example).
Both my humans say that the life style changes are WELL worth it to them, but also try to actively warn others whom see us and think it's "an easy to keep animal". Unfortunately many humans (still) think it's "okay and healthy" for us birds to just sit in our cage most of the day though.
Thanks again for being one of the content creators with an audience to bring this to attention 🥰
Ow and btw give Kedle some scritches and a head-nod from me 🥰
    Love, Sophie (The Pigeon) 🕊🪶

This is a really good video with a lot of insight! I rescue hurt or sick pigeons and take care of a pigeon house in the city with other volunteers and it is really a lot of work. The dust gets everywhere and they poop so much xD I am keeping one rescue pigeon named Betty Boo, because she has deformed feet (she had an open chest wound and broken feet, when she came to me 🥲) and can't be let go into the wild/city again. I didn't know about them reacting badly to strong smells, nobody told me when I started caring for them, so thank you for informing me! I will now look to it, that I don't use smelly cleaning products anymore..
    Greetings from Germany c:

Strange con is that they are hard to travel with. Technically they are poultry in the USA so planes and trains are out.
And pros, yes, they are dogs with feathers. Another pro is they can go outside in more weather than other birds.

I've been longing to adopt a pigeon for a while, but... Honestly, I'm not in the place to do it right now and I have to admit it and not give a bird friend a bad life situation.
Sucks, but those cons would be difficult for me to keep up with and the life changes to address the cons are something to address first rather than being all sad.

I love pigeons and wanted one for a while but the main things that worry me is the dust and the attention part. I plan on doing nursing when I finish college and I hear the hours can be long and change pretty often. I’m afraid I wouldn’t have much time to spend with it. And I also hear that the dust can give people respiratory issues after a long time of being exposed to it, so it is a bit worrisome.

Very nice woman who knows a lot about pigeons. (But not as much as I do!) Ha Ha Ha!
Pigeons are not that dirty if you manage and train them properly.
Diaper your pet pigeon, and make sure they have access to food and water and
you'll have a pet that will bring great joy into your life, and that will fascinate you with interesting behavior.
You must be very careful about choosing your veterinarian. A so-called avian vet on Long Island killed a pet pigeon I'd had for 14 years.

I agree. Many things are not really true. An $800 vet bill for a respiratory infections is pretty high, But a lot of pigeon illnesses can be managed at home without even seeing a vet, such as a respiratory infection. Not all vets are the same, Another pointer that is false is that you can not have a multi pet household. I have mixed Cats, dogs and pigeons for over a decade. Also, Pigeon feed is sold for good prices online in the US and they are actually super easy to care for. If you do get two pigeons, you defiantly do not have to spend too much time with them. So don't let this video discourage you, Pigeons make wonderful easy pet and can live anywhere from 7 to 17+ years.
