How This Restaurant Worker Saved a Kid From Alleged Child Abuse

  • A restaurant manager is being hailed as a hero for spotting what she said were signs of child abuse. Flaviane Carvalho says a family ordered food at the Mrs. Potato in Orlando, Florida but did not have a meal for the 11-year-old customer. She noticed a bruise on the boy and created a sign that said "Do you need help?" and held it up from an angle that his parents could not see. When the boy nodded yes, Carvalho called 9-1-1 and the parents were later arrested. Inside Edition Digital has more. #InsideEdition

there is an "interview" with her (she's brazilian, so its in portuguese, so i gonna resume it) that she says it was 30min before the restaurant closed, and this "family" arrived, the boy was wearing long clothes, glasses, a cap and mask, which is strange for a hot night. The man order food for everyone but the boy, and she was suspicious about it all, she looked at the boy and he had a mark next to his eyebrow, like a scratch, she wrote a sign asking if he was okay, and stayed in a corner where only he could look, he said he was fine, she didn't believe it, after a few minutes she wrote again, asked if he needed help, and he nodded an yes.
She called the police and the man was arrested, the boy and sister went to the hospital, and the mother paid her partner's bail and he left free, but both were arrested the other day.
This lady says that while the police talked to the parents she decided to give the boy a sandwich, but he gave it directly in the mother hands, and that shocked her because the boy was five days without eating, and even then he followed the mother's orders.

I was abused by both parents but from different households.
My dad put me between his legs and beat me until I got brain damage.
His wife was a nurse, watched it and legally was supposed to report child abuse but didn't.
I didn't have a voice. The biggest thing for kids, even people is to have a voice
When you're a kid if adults don't fight for you then what can you do? If only I had a voice.
It was so normal to get punched through the air or dragged by my hair that I didn't even know that that was wrong or abuse until I heard a girl talk about it on tv. I was 14 and wondered if I was abused. It was really sad. I just started to cry.
It's good to be a voice for others who need it not just humans but animals too. If only someone had stepped up in my case and said "Hey that's wrong". If only I had a voice.
To this day if you ask me what a family is I'd say that it's screaming but based on people's reactions then my response is "It's not screaming"? That's what a family is to me if that makes sense.
It's very much comparable to a person who's color blind but I don't see families. I don't know what it means. It means screaming. I'm almost totally lost. I don't understand it in a native sense. My brother is the same way.
Hey but with this lady you get to have a voice. It's important for me to be around people like her. I would feel safer around people like her.

I met someone and hope to marry her. I want her dad and her aunt and her sister and family.
In a way I'm bankrupt. I can't give what I don't have. She has everything that I want in a family. It's so weird to me. That's the best explanation. I don't mean it in a rude or bad way, a family is so weird. I don't know what it means or what to say or do. It's very foreign and unknown.
Hey, currently I'm in a very safe place and safe mindset. Thanks for being concerned. You be safe too.

Reminds me of this woman who became a public speaker as survivor. She got in trouble with an old ex once he got out of prison. He didn’t know she was pregnant when he got locked up, or that she had another kid after that.
When he got out, she took her kids to her mom and told him her mom died a couple years back. It took I think 2-3 years until he got life for something unrelated to his mistreatment of her. She left her kids for YEARS just so they were safe. Incredible strength. She now teaches about the warning signs for both yourself and loved ones who may try to hide it from you.
