I came to this because I was thinking about designing my own magnetic bearing, but using permanent magnets.
Of course now thinking about it, you'd need a way stronger MF to support a shaft on a industrial scale. But then i ask, is it really worth it to cut the price of maintenance but then having to pay for power and rely on sensors? Very interesting topic.
If it was a 1kw magnet centering a heavy shaft of a turbine that runs 24h and 12 cents per kwh. That would make around 1000€ a year of electricity. Usually one days worth of maintenance in a big company is about 400€ a day per technician but you only do maintenance on bearings every couple of years. I would say its not worth it.
For reference, a kwh in my country is about 35 cents, bearings on heavy duty mills and transport screws (crushing rocks and moving cement) in a company i know are changed by no more than 4 technicians every 4 years. Thats about 3200€ per machine in 4 years.
The screw weighs about 500kg and lets not speak about radial force of the crushing mill, but i doubt a 1kw magnet could center it. Even if it could, that would make about 4000€ at 12c/kwh and 12000€ in german 0,35€/kWh.
I really would like to know what kind of company buys these bearings and what application they are used in.

You should also factor in that there is no oil in the compressor. This leads to lower maintenance costs, less components on the chiller and better efficiencies due to the absence of oil logging of the refrigerant. Thos factors make magnetic drive compressor superior.

Bravo , it is great ! Sir . May I
wanted to know with this magnet
Bearing can the motor design to
Run at 100,000 rpm . Thanks

Chiu, the max rpm now in the market can reach half of your target. if you want make it 100,000, technically no problem... The only factor which limit the RPM is the Material of the bearing.

will magnetic bearing work on heavy load without auxiliary mechanical bearing?
If not then how is it maintenance free?
And what is the cost of power required by magnetic bearing to operate vs the cost of mechanical gear replacement?

" And what is the cost of power required by magnetic bearing to operate vs the cost of mechanical gear replacement? "
      - Even if it's expensive, for all intents and purposes: it's lifetime use.

Im curious about these types of chillers... Can i make it into a car engine?

Yes, you can. But you need calculate carefully about the working load and Torque. this is one of the future direction. And, Bain, if you make one in your garage, upload the video on youtube, you will be hottest~

why didn't you just say 25 nanometers instead of 0.001 mil?
