  • Neptune’s Staircase is a flight of eight locks at Banavie, in Scotland. It is the longest staircase lock in Britain, and it lets boats rise and fall by 64 feet (20 m), and it takes boats about 90 minutes to pass through.

I have always heard about the "water locks" but until your video I have never saw one in action. It was a great video I enjoyed it. Keep up the good work

Harry you should have a boat. You're so good in all of your endeavors that I'm sure you would be quite a great helmsman. Love it when the locals share history and sites from their part of the world. Good show. Thank you.

Very nice video Harry. The speeded up footage showed the movements well.

I watch a lot of narrowboating videos, but hadn't seen these locks and swing bridges before Harry, so thanks for that. It is a bit of effort and expense for two little boats to navigate this system. I wonder if they encourage boaters to "team up" together to traverse in pairs or flotillas to save electricity?

Seems like a lot of work to get a boat through, do they charge per boat or is it free? Maybe they do it at certain times each day and boats have to wait?

Very Interesting Harry. I spent 2 years (1965-66)in the Holy Loch, on the USS Simon Lake (AS33), but never heard of Neptune's Staircase. How far is it from Dunoon? 90 minutes seems like a quick trip for 8 locks. Is there any charge for use, or do you have to wait for multiple boats to pass?

How nice that you remember where I'm at. If you ever travel to Arizona, let me know, I'll take you guys out to dinner for very good Sonoran style Mexican food. The climate and foliage here is not to everyone's taste, but a lot more people than you might expect fall in love with the open views, and craggy landscapes. I have rarely been in areas of the U.S. that are green and lush like Britain. It is beautiful, but the humidity is uncomfortable for me. We have about 2 months in the summer that gets humid here, but even then the humidity is not constantly high. I would really enjoy having a long visit to your lovely country, but I don't make enough money for it to happen. I appreciate TH-cam videos and Google Earth, they allow me to 'visit' places I'll never be able to go to in person. Thanks for posting your trip videos, sir.
