    I loved being on commission when I was a technician. I have always been a great salesman and but I always wanted to be a plumber first. I now have my own company and pay my guys a guaranteed salary every week and then recently added a spiff sheet. In the last week I’ve increased revenue by 30% and my technicians are making an extra $400-$600 a week and they love it. Great content!

      I’m happy for you and your success good Sir 👍
      I’ve been reading rich dad poor dad, and one of the things it points out is that if one is in a specialized career he should learn marketing. It helps bring up their ability to sell their product/service which greatly increases the person’s income I think by 20 to maybe 30%.

      Hey that's awesome! Good luck with your business! This may be a stupid question, but what's a spiff sheet?

      @@Chris.Rhodes it's additional pay incentives usually for selling certain products or depending on how much you've made of your total jobs that week or month

      Your a good guy.. a good boss. I work for a $30mill company and myself and close co workers have yet to get a raise, been here 7yrs. Other guys tell me we have to ASK for a raise, even then we’re talking about 50c maybe a dollar

    Every commission company I know their service techs straight up rob people, telling the customer they have major issues $30k job and not anything is actually wrong. A lot of jobs I go to are customers looking for a second opinion. The story’s I hear are mind blowing

    I am hourly with incentives and I feel like it gives me the opportunity to help the customers best and never stressed to oversell anything

  • @davidbothwell6625
    @davidbothwell6625 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like the incentive based. At any of the levels of pay all plumbers should do a plumbing safety inspection on the home. Not just to sell more work but to educate the home owner. Make them aware of potential issues. Some urgent need to be fixed now. Some can be fixed in the future. This will build a trusting relationship with the customer. They will know you are not just there to gouge them but to educate them. Thanks for the great videos. Always a good time.

    Feel like it's a very quiet thing and taboo noone talks about but is very real.

      Some people nit pick down to charging a customer the fractional cost of using solder and flux and some charge per each wing nut and grounding clip used. I've seen the invoices. Not worth my time.
      Me- I don't charge consumables (nails, caulking, frog clips, etc-added as part of project scope estimate) and only charge materials at-cost, with delivery charge added, if I'm picking up.

    • @justtime6736
      @justtime6736 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope that helps.
      Another thing, you'll only really know how much to bid if you understand your own skill level. "How long will that take 'me' to do and what am I looking to have as a wage for myself per hour?" after said and done.

    Company I work for has a little of all 3 depending on the situation, however I’m primarily a commissioned residential service plumber.
    I have a gift for communicating plumbing to non mechanical people, which is vital for any kind of informed consent prior to contracting services. Some of the best plumbers I’ve ever known just want to do the work and not have to talk to anyone. There are good jobs for whatever kind of plumber you wanna be, just figure out what you like to do, someone out there wants to pay you to do it, I assure you of that in the Atlanta,GA market at least.

    We charge by the job and are all paid by salary. Better than hourly because same ever week. Better than commission because you don’t feel pressured to sell to make your monthly nut.

    I'm in HVAC and get paid hourly. There is a degree of incentive in the sense that we get paid 40 a week no matter what. Come into the office to get the jobs for the day, if you knock them out early then you get to go home early, sometimes we have to work late as well and only get the 8 hour day, but it's usually the ladder.

  • @charlesking678

    Hourly pay doesn't incentive the guys to sell. 100% Commission incentives the guys to lie and oversell. The best pay structure is hourly plus commission. The hybrid pay structure works well. You the plumber have the guarantee of hourly pay and not the pressure to constantly sell, but at the same time are rewarded for earning for the company.

    Is it common for some companies to do both? I’m an apprentice but the journeyman at the plumbing company I used to work for got both. They got hourly and their commission they said was under the table.

    I would never work commission pay. And if I was a business owner I wouldn't offer commision pay. And it's for one reason. The moral integrity of the company would be on the line. What are the chances a plumber sells something to customer they don't need when they are being paid on commission? A heck of alot. Plus alot of homeowners don't know anything about there plumbing system so to try and make a couple extra bucks off that person would not be hard if you are that type of person, and I'm not that type of person. Just take care of the customers needs and move on. That's how they will call you back and in the future. Not to mention you always have a witness, even when your in a room all by yourself!

    It’s not anybody’s business, but the plumbers in the company how they get paid it’s not your business to know if it’s hourly commission or incentive. I wouldn’t answer that respectfully. Tim, we don’t have the homeowner. How much is her house worth or how much do they make? They charge them accordingly with that I and most companies get over on hourly paid plumbers. Anyways, I’ve done it for years.

    Hey man this is Wayne Gray with B&D Plumbing in Baton Rouge,La. I worked in the field doing new construction for 10 years before I got lucky and was placed in the office as a Commercial Estimator and Project Manager. I spent four years in the Army as a 12B(Combat Engineer) Love the videos they are awesome! I am part of the LAPHCC (Louisiana Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors) board as the chair for the young professionals. I would love to be able to chat with you and see if you would be interested in helping us spread awareness in regards to getting trade work taught in High School in our state. We really are trying to bring more attention to the trades as being a better option than going to college and spending 4 years to get a “degree” that these kids can’t even get a job with when they graduate. The need for trade workers is growing and outpacing the supply of younger generations coming in. I know you have a lot going on and I really hope you get a chance to read this message. You are awesome and keep on brother. Would love to hear your thoughts and if you would be interested.
    Thank you,
    Wayne Gray
