How I made the gladiators for Swords and Sandals! Behind the scenes

- Today, S&S creator Oliver Joyce goes behind the scenes for a look at how the gladiators were drawn, coloured and animated for the legendary gladiator series.
First up, its the characters from S&S 2, then we check out some knights in S&S Crusader and finally the pirates from the upcoming S&S Pirates!

U MADE MY CHILDHOOD when im was 5 yrs old im try sword and sandals 3 im was scared first but after 3-4 games Im become a gladiator from 2007 to 2013 im play every day im wake up like 6:00am and start play sword and sandals 3 and now 2019 im start play this game again this its one of the best games who are ever maked im want to create more sword and sandals versions awesome !!

When will be sword and sandals3 redux
S&S 3 will probably never get the Redux treatment sadly, the code is in too much of a state of disrepair. However, I want to bring all the S&S 3 bosses into S&S VI as a seperate tournament for players!

how does the double comma glitch when you inserted ,, into character name when creating it and randomizing in swords and sandals 2 why does it make the character weird?
Do you know Karolek? Polish youtuber, that said you like gave him accidentally deleted gladiator, and you gave him Swords & Sandals 2 redux Karolek Edition, is that true?

Yeah Flash was amazing for its time - I work a lot in HTML5 / JS for my day job ( only doing Whiskeybarrel Studios stuff 2 days a week ) and it's light years behind what Flash was capable of.

What happended to 3rd sense?
They're still around, doing whatever it is they do these days, god knows. I'm still good mates with one of their devs, but other than that I have nothing to do with them - for the best I think! :)
When will be release of S&S Pirates?

I love swords and sandals ! The 4 have so much replayability, if you made another concept like the 4 would be genial ! If possible add an editor for the realms, so you can have huges maps by the community !
But all of them were so nice, I started with the 2 and played them all :)
Oliver for swords and sandals 2 and 5 redux what happened to the guy in the tavern who u were able to gamble I think it would be amazing to see this back there is a tavern in both I think differently 5 redux but maybe u can talk to people there from pas swords and sandal games and maybe some in the background to just not doing anything

Swords and sandals is easily one of the best flash games I've ever played. That game was like half my childhood
Here's another thing that's been wondering in my head wheres swords and sandals 3 redux or mobile? My internet is off and I looked up videos on how to play flash games offline on Android it worked but then it stops so rn I have no way to play swords and sandals 3 and I want to dam maybe it will come out swords and sandals 3 redux or mobile I wanna see all of the swords and sandals games to get have mobile or redux version did u ever think of making some rn your busy with s&s pirates but after it's done maybe it's something to think about

Amazing! Hey, would be interesting update in Swords and Sandals 2 Redux if Emperor Antares, Daimyo katsumodo and Archfiend Zeerzabahl have personal face behind the mask. And Mask will abble to knock out! :)
Great suggestions Mike, I think I want to add that in S&S VI , gladiators can have their helmets knocked off and if you hit them without their helmet , they take critical damage and so on - and yeah, you could then see their faces properly!
I can't wait for S&S VI! Must buy when it comes! :)

Really enjoyed playing Swords and Sandals back from the days of my childhood! You were the reason why I was always in a rush to go home every after school so I could play this masterpiece! I would sometimes even play this on hacked flash games so I could cheat my stats and gold 😅

I imagine you were smart enough to back up all this stuff before you did the video, but it would of been really funny if you accidentally saved after showing us how to change the sprites.
It's a fear I always have, whenever I experiment on something and want to go back to where I was before.

Never too late! I am a self taught programmer. This is before TH-cam etc so I read a bunch of books , but I still developed a lot of bad habits along the way. These days there are some great courses on TH-cam and Udemy etc that can really get you up and running fast !
