I have actually be contemplating getting a 30 gallon barrel and a pump for the back of he truck. As you have noticed it is becoming a pain in the butt to keep these girls fed.
38 degrees up here in central Jersey with rain and snow mix. Time to add the quilt boxes. Would like to have your winter weather. I also have a couple of new projects I’m working on in design. One is under a patent search at present. I’m a tinkerer to solve problems and easier solutions for bee keeping.
31.9F here this morning. Our winters are short and we rarely see snow but they do get cold for about 3 month. As for the bees... well, we have passed the point of no return. From this point forward it is what it is. I will be removing the buckets from the girls on Sunday and that should be it for the year. Have fun going through the patent process. Been there done that. :-). We will have to find other adventures until spring. :-)
I love my Insta Vape also. I only have two 5 amp hour batteries but they will do my 18 hives no problem. It is so easy it is hard to put it off. I have done 3 OAV treatments this fall. How many do you plan on?
I have done three as well. You are correct. It is too easy to put off. I did the entire farm yard of 29 hives with the one 20 amp battery. Fantastic!!!
OOOO Its always sad to see our adventures coming to a close this time of the year .. You know I didnt hear , or see in the comments, but since you have been using those gloves now for a month or 2 , what do you think of them ??
I don't treat, only lost one coming out of winter, it was only about a softball sized cluster going into winter. Gonna see how many make it this year. Pretty much all genetics from swarms i've caught and just wanna see how they do without treatment
Honestly I have gone years without treatment at all and I haven't had a problem. This year kept up with the treatments because of the ease of use of the Instavap. Prior years I didn't treat or placed a couple of Apivar strips in the hive for a few months. My guess is that if your small cluster is made of young bees, have plenty of food, and can keep the queen aloive they will survive.
@BugFarmerBees I think you are doing right by treating, you have more hives and the more hives you have the bigger risks you have, such as commercial beekeepers, you can't afford losses. I just have 18 and it's just a hobby. If I have losses I'll do splits and catch swarms and won't have any costs.
I have been reusing my buckets for years. They have a gasket inside the rim which prevents leaks. I have had the lids off and on at least a dozen times for each bucket and they are going strong.
Hey my friend it always nice to see what you're up to
bees bees bees...... I like checking in on you too.... metal metal metal. :-). It is always nice to hear from you. You are the OG of subscribers.
Just a suggestion on the food buckets. Get a used milk crate and keep 4 gallons of syrup in it. Them fill your buckets at the out yard

These are by far the best gloves I have ever used. They are easy to get in and out of and the fit very well.

Question. I thought once you sealed those buckets u had to keep the with lid on or they will leak what's you thoughts on that. Thanks 👍
