      Still *on* his show, the show can move around so long as you have a set and a camera. And the set doesn't need to be amazing if the content is great.

      To be fair, Sowell's not as young as he used to be, probably doesn't get around as easily.

      The most widely assigned author throughout US universities is Marx's "Communist Manifesto" (which explains a great deal).
      I think Universities have a moral obligation to assign an equal dose of Sowell, or 'reality' as I prefer to call it.

Dr. Sowell has had, is having and will continue to have a far greater and salutary influence on our society right where he is.

    I'm turning 60 this year and have been changing my mind about a lot of things these last few years. How did Thomas Sowell become so enlightened so early? Must be IQ.

    • @Marmocet

      Absolutely. He's very far to the right of the mean on the bell curve.

    • @steviebob4
      @steviebob4 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Carlos Gonzales I think diligence, humility and bravery also play a huge role. I see so many people that definitely have the intelligence to find the truth but they lack the diligence and humility to admit to themselves that they really don't know as much as they think and then do the leg work to uncover what's really going on and the bravery to stand up against the crowd of virtue signaling idiots screeching about "hate speech" and trying to tear you down because you contradict their simple minded, cheap and ultimately fraudulent moral high ground. Not to say that Thomas Sowell isn't also a brilliant man.

    • @slappyhappy6192
      @slappyhappy6192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Carlos Gonzales
      He mentions that his parents both died when he was an infant, then adopted by a 4 adult household and received unlimited attention. Plus IQ and genetics.
      Mostly chance luck, meeting that kid he talks about, only child, new york city schools, timing of being in 40's. Lots of uncontrollable luck.

    • @johnneumann8878
      @johnneumann8878 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I would add to +slappy's comment "the importance of having a mentor at an early age". Sowell himself attributes significant changes in his life (learning about the Public Library and the power of reading) to his mentorship by Eddie.

    • @kbrownvirginia
      @kbrownvirginia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      D’lish Donut likely has no data on IQ (or other valid measurement of intelligence) to back up his or her claim that the people who think that Dr. Sowell “sounds smart” are less intelligent than those people who do not.

    • @kbrownvirginia
      @kbrownvirginia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      D'lish Donut You have too much extrapolation, and too many assumptions behind your original assertion that “Sowell only sounds smart to stupid people”; it’s really just your unfounded opinion or hypothesis. I would also want to know your sources for your second claim that “right wing people are less intelligent than left wing people”, and look at methodology, possible bias, funding, test group selection, etc. You made a huge generalization that no non-stupid people would think that Dr. Sowell “sounds smart”. You didn’t define stupid vs not stupid, and didn’t define “right-winger”.
      If you went to the trouble to design and execute a test of your hypothesis, “all people who think Dr. Sowell sounds smart are stupid people”, the odds are good that you will quickly find some non-stupid people who think that Dr. Sowell “sounds smart”, which would disprove your hypothesis. And, the odds are also good that they won’t all be “right-wingers”.

      He retired from writing his weekly columns a year or two ago, but even before then he rarely made public appearances outside of the Hoover Institution's "Common Knowledge" interview program. Looks like he resurfaced now to promote his new book.
