If you do not want to lose all your muscle tone from doing this job keep a set of dumbbells in your truck and use them. I know you guys in day cabs could not really do this but if you have a double bunk cab theirs lots of exercises that can be done, squats, curls, deadlifts, etc.
It's a nightmare don't do it. From shit gas station, and rude people. We also deal with rude drivers, DOT being up our ass and shopping and recovering incompetence. Go to tech school stay from here.
Sigh, been off the road since December 2019 due to medical issues and my doctor will still not clear me to get a DOT medical card, I passed a physical last year but when the Doctor at Concentra looked at the prescriptions that I am taking, he would not clear me without clearance from my regular Doctor and will still not clear me as of my last appointment a few weeks ago. even as insane as things are getting out on the roads I still really miss being out on the road, doing my thing and the deep low rumble of that big diesel up front that comforts me and lets me know that all is right in my little world, I really miss being behind the wheel of a big truck.
You could maybe start a pilot car business just to kinda be on the road or do those need medical cards too if they're just passenger vehicles? I could use a rider to do my paper work if you're single 😆
I’m an nationwide OTR company driver in a “regional” Volvo with no upper bunk. 😑. I don’t have a choice with this company… I came out of a mighty Kensworth. It was like being evicted from a 30 acre farm and being put up into a tiny studio apartment. I keep almost quitting, it’s maddening. I’ll pull the trigger eventually.
Meanwhile the new guys like me have to step over everything next to the seat as we are too stupid to figure out a better option. Down side of driving a company truck is you get what you get. My micro is on the floor under the bed cause it won't fit anywhere else except for the front seat that currently acts as a catch all for my daily clothing that I layer up with to go outside in the cold to strap a load..
I do regional and some drivers stay out a couple of nights a week but not me, there's no incentive for me to stay out my friend makes 200 or 300 a week more but to me is not worth it
Most drivers have families at home so they want to see they're kids and pets and maybe the wife. I'm out 5 days a week and home 2 but once my kids are grown I might go full otr

Biggest fear is seeing those videos where inside the sleeper is showing on the freeway after a crash, would be so embarrassing lol motivation to NEVER crash lol
