Amtrak/MBTA really do need to rebuild that North-South Link between the two stations that used to exist in the form of the Atlantic Ave Elevated until that was closed in 1938, and demolished a few years later for scrap steel for the war effort. It seems illogical to have these two large railway stations completely isolated from each other directly, involving either taking two subway lines, a taxi or 30min walk. It definitely does when you're not a Local. It takes 7-8 minutes to get between Stations by Cab (granted if light traffic). And unfortunately there are no interconnecting MBTA Trains that go between Stations. You would have to take the Orange Line from North Station and take the closest Stop, which is Chinatown (and that's still a few blocks away from South Station).
