Real shame about the cafe car. It’s weird that it didn’t open until Haverhill, it normally opens after all tickets have been collected/Business Class passengers have been attended to. That normally happens by Anderson/Woburn at the latest. The menu is different than the rest of the Amtrak system and in my opinion is better at both value and quality.
I thought it opened around there too, but I guess not. As for the menu, the options are great, and with the new changes Amtrak's has made, I'm sure it's even better.
@@LonestarTrips The Downeaster is actually insulated from the new menu changes because of Amtrak's contract with NNEPRA. It has a unique menu with New England cuisine, local craft beers, and Pepsi products. The food is so much better and so much cheaper than on other Amtrak trains. I'm not sure why your trip had the typical Amtrak menu.
We've got a ride on a Thalys high speed train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam, a 2 Day trip on the Texas Eagle, some puddle jumping across the Serengeti in Tanzania, and I just booked tickets for TWO journeys on the Caledonian Sleeper! The issue is that all of the really cool videos take a lot of time to edit, time I currently don't have, so I'm forced to push them back until I can find the time to get it all put together.
Unfortunately the scheduling of riding all the way to Maine didn’t work out. I was running a tight ship while in the northeast, and in order to make my connection heading back south out of Boston, I had to end the journey in Haverhill.
Same, I live in Maine and have never been on a train or to Boston. Trying to get an idea on price range, which option for me and my spouse of 25 years this June. Were about to be empty nesters and havent had a childfree vacation since we had kids. Sooo I'd love to see Salam and the aquarium!
It does, I just forgot it did as I didn't have it in the footage that we stopped there, and the sign in Boston didn't have it listed, so I assumed we weren't going to stop there.

The voice over blew off the Anderson/Woburn stop .... twice! For food service NextDine of Massachusetts is contracted by the Maine owner of the trains. Amtrak operates. Inbound, the cafe was opened until Anderson Woburn. The Ventura seats have been reviewed last year on the Chicago to St. Louis where there in use.
Regarding Anderson/Woburn, I was going based on what I had in my footage, and the fact that the sign in Boston made no mention of Woburn as a station stop. In hind sight I think we did stop there, but it wasn't in the footage anywhere, so I just forgot about it.
Amtrak's version of Siemen's Venture coaches lack the pizzazz of similar coaches on Brightline trains. Amtrak interiors are sterile and unattractive and look more like commuter cars. The "Palmetto" once had roomy Amfleet II coaches with leg rests, but I guess it will be downgraded to the new and un-improved Ventures. Actually its hard for me to get excited about anything to do with Amtrak because I just returned from Germany where I was in Railroad Heaven less than a month ago.

I was hoping to see what the train ride is like from Boston to Maine, not Boston to Haverhill.

I think Woburn NB is pick up only and SB is drop off only. It’s a T stop and I don’t think they want to compete.
