Good morning my friend I paused this for a minute when I get your knife made im also going to send you some pieces of wood I've noticed you use 1x1x4 in and 1x1x6 in it will be pine and cedar I also want to send you some black walnut a friend gave me said it was from his great grandfather he said it's around 120 years old now back to your video 😊
I started whittling a little bit when I was a kid with my scout knife and I also car soap back then but as I grew up and I remember, I was maybe 32 or so 84 I started getting serious about wood carving but a pocket I have I had about three or four pocket knives that I had changed the shape of the blades and the angle of their not kind of thing and I carry him with me everywhere and a little something that I’ll carving on AndI would go somewhere and had nothing to do. I just sit down here and pull out my knives and piece of wood Id been working on and start whittling. I had a blast doing that and I got good at it. In fact, I decided I wanted to go to our college and I used my wood carvings as my portfolio to get me into art college. It just blew the dean and the teachers away I was having a blast plus people were buying as fast as I can make them, I wasn’t trying to sell them. They just buy them and then I got into gages and you know all the technical type stuff for wood carving that too. I do that and I enjoy it and every time I finish one or somebody will lined up to buy it great gifts, I’m 70 years old and I still carve but I just have this urge to get back to Carmen with the pocket knives and watching your channel my love enjoy the simple whittle. Oh by the way you watching your videos you’re the Bob Ross of whittling and you’re carving the happy little wood spirits. LOL After all, it’s your world, boys and girls .
I know a lot of times I'm carving away and it's all going well and all of a sudden I'll make a bad cut or too and it destroys the whole project i just wanna throw it away. But you did a great job Ken on this one as usual.
Sounds good ken the weather here is a little cold we had sleet and rain all day one day this week I'll be able to get the blank for your knife cut out then will finish it inside thanks again the wood spirit looks amazing
Thank you. It seems to be drying out nicely. I try slowing the drying by waxes the ends, it seems to work most of the time. Hopefully, it will be ready in a week or two. 👍✌
With hardwood like this Sweetgum (really most hardwoods), they are best whittled while green (fresh cut). Once they dry out it is very difficult (not impossible) to whittle with a knife. I soaked this piece because I was not planning on using it right away. I whittled it right after taking it from the water. 👍✌
Hey ken just wanted to touch base with you I have cut out the knife blade had a mishap with a piece of my equipment so I've ordered a new one I have the wood pieces cut and put in a box should if nothing else happens be able to send sometime next week or the next I will let you know
I enjoy watching wood spirit videos, especially when done with a pocket knife.
Thank you, I enjoy doing them! 👍✌
Appreciate the teaching and explanation. Thanks again!
Thank you! 👍✌

Thank you, you made my day! 👍✌️
Nice woodspirit! I haven't thought about whittling sweetgum before. Looked like it carved well in your video.
Thank you Stephen! Sweetgum is not bad when it's green (or kept in water like I did), once it dries - not so fun! 👍✌
A very nice video to watch on Sunday morning with a cup of coffee. Thanks
I like hearing that! Thank you. 👍✌

Long video but worth watching.

AWESOME. THANK YOU. WHERE DID YOU GET SWEET GUM BRANCHES- nice color effect.
Thank you! The branch is from a tree at the back of our property. You can sort of see it in the opening video cut. 👍✌️
Great video. I will give this a go. What kind of wood is that, can't make it out in the audio. Best wishes from Ireland.
Thank you! It is Sweetgum (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquidambar_styraciflua ). Ireland - lovely country! 👍✌
Is soaking wood before carving make it easier? How much dry time out of the water?

Sorry I bothered you with the question if I would have looked in the links I would have seen that thank you
Never a bother, my friend!
BTW, I will let the wood spirit dry for a bit before I oil/wax it. When it is ready to ship out I will give you a shout.👍✌
Fantastic!
Thank you! 👍✌
