From someone who has never even heard of this game before, I love how I only realized he wasn't teleporting and actually just changing the direction of gravity until like 1/3 of the way through.
it means a lot to me to see this, thank you! the intent was to make it look good and do my best to explain most things, and it seems i did that pretty well.
Lots of people seem confused. The central mechanic of this game is that you can change the direction of gravity whenever you're close to a surface. He's using the setting for fast transitions, which skips the animation and makes it look like a teleport. The other central mechanic of the game is that space wraps around itself in every direction, so every open space repeats infinitely. Other than exploiting those two mechanics, he's using a whole bunch of wall-clipping glitches, which are essentially the same as wall-clipping glitches in other games.
I bought this game on the switch a few days ago and the whole time playing it I was thinking "this game looks very speedrunnable. I bet GDQ has a run of it somewhere" and lo and behold, I was right.
Great run, but more importantly - what an awesome looking game! I've never seen it before so I know what I'm purchasing today. Love puzzle games and strong visuals!
Im surprised they didn't show the ending animation, but also it's really something best experienced close up on your monitor to really get the full effect.
I'm glad that he pointed out the sound of dragging a cube upstairs, because that was the only reason I had playing it not to skip stairs when I had a cube with me.
Changing gravity comes with a sudden snap, not the 90° rotation you usually get in games. So the floor is just suddenly a wall, which makes it kinda disorienting at first.
@@Schilani To be clear, this is a setting in the game. Speedrunners use it because instantly teleporting and changing position is obviously way way way way faster than having to watch a 1s animation where you change to the wall. Just your friendly neighborhood dev of the game jumping in to explain-
For any people that liked this game, it looks REALLY similar to antichamber which is also a non-euclidean game with the same style, so I suspect it has the same developer.
Jibster I looked it up. This is a debut game by William Chyr. This is what he said in 2016 about his game: Technically the world wrapping is euclidean, but there is also some non-euclidean stuff. It'll be easier to explain once the game is out and we can talk about specifics. The game is not related to Antichamber, but if you liked that game, I think you'll like this one.
I had that "nether realms teleport" glitch happen to me multiple times during my playthrough, whenever I was falling and accidentally got the cube caught up on something and so, if the cube gets too far from you while you're holding it that can happen.
7:25 Ironically, the current fastest route skips this area entirely, as well as practically everything they did here (although its a dark route completion, here they're doing the good ending)
The most confusing thing for people without context watching speedruns is just, the omission of the animation for moving from one directional gravity to another. It's the game's chief gimmick, but the animation takes a while so they turn it off to an instant change for timesave purposes. The main point of the normal game is to go through each of the seven worlds and repair them by regrowing their God Cube, then taking that to the main garden and then when you have all six, you can go through the final door, do all the trials seen here as a sort of final exam, and then you go to the ending and its all very abstract etc. There's a lot of skips and interconnection in the world's environments, a lot of which is intentional- the fastest speedruns tend to be moreso using bugs and geometry manipulation though. It'd probably make more sense if you had any time with the game yerself, if ye've not gotten it yet

The one puzzle game where you can watch a full speedrun and have NOTHING of value spoiled.
XDD indeed
I have no idea what's going on in the best way.
Speedruns like that are the best! :D
From someone who has never even heard of this game before, I love how I only realized he wasn't teleporting and actually just changing the direction of gravity until like 1/3 of the way through.
Same
The default is a "smooth" gravity transition, but there's an option for instant.
This run was so entertaining, Gelly did a wonderful job with commentary
Yeah that was amazing, its rare to see people entertain so well
it means a lot to me to see this, thank you! the intent was to make it look good and do my best to explain most things, and it seems i did that pretty well.

This game just seems to have those Antichamber vibes
Seems way too influenced, must be the same people
Anti chamber my favorite puzzle game
Foxy 狐の夏 I wish, but no antichamber was made by one guy who seemingly made nothing else
@@KitsuneNoNatsu It's not: Manifold Garden was practically built by one guy. It's pretty wild, some of the music sounds super close to Antichamber.
I actually thought exactly the same thing. Same sound scheme , same visuals. 2 different developers.
Just finished this game! I saw the speedrun, was completely mesmerised and bought it. Highly recommend it!
10:10 There are absolutely no curves!
*Proceeds to pick up a curved object*
xDD yeah but that's because the own cube distorts the space, it is a cube without any curves

I've never seen it before so I know what I'm purchasing today. Love puzzle games and strong visuals!
Speaking from the perspective of a speedrunner who picked this game up because of this run, I can it's a worthwhile purchase
Fun fact! My dad helped make this game!
YES A FELLOW STAIR SMACKER !!!!!!!
Im surprised they didn't show the ending animation, but also it's really something best experienced close up on your monitor to really get the full effect.
The secret ending animation is pretty trippy too
Need to pick this up to understand anything.
Gelly’s right this is absolutely cursed
I'm glad that he pointed out the sound of dragging a cube upstairs, because that was the only reason I had playing it not to skip stairs when I had a cube with me.
I'm so confused. Sometimes it looks like reality suddenly snaps into a different position, and sometimes it seems like he just teleports.
Changing gravity comes with a sudden snap, not the 90° rotation you usually get in games. So the floor is just suddenly a wall, which makes it kinda disorienting at first.
He changes the gravity I think, so the camera inverts
He changes gravity. I was confused for a while too.

@@Schilani The sudden snap is an option that is not on by default. By default, you get an animation for the 90° rotation.
Gelly seems like such a nice person
Wow... I got motion sick... Great commentary, Gelly!
Fantastic run and runner commentary! I really wish I would have been able to go to this!
The fact he’s cracking jokes the whole time is amazing

It's not, but the guy who made it has series of him playing through a bunch of cool puzzle games
Holy shit this game is stylish as fuck.
It’s so surreal knowing my dad helped make this game
I just finished this game and had to look up a speedrun for it because I knew it was gonna be insane.
dude this run fucked with my fear of falling so bad
I had that "nether realms teleport" glitch happen to me multiple times during my playthrough, whenever I was falling and accidentally got the cube caught up on something and so, if the cube gets too far from you while you're holding it that can happen.

Cool run, great runner! He’d be a good one to showcase again for another GDQ
Wow it looks like a pretty fun game to run
Hey I remember playing this, really amazing (if not a little nauseating at times) game
This run inspired to pick up this game on the Epic Games Store and pick it up as a speedrun.
All God Cubes at AGDQ 2021? Hopefully.
Very pretty.
Hold the fucking phone. Manifold Garden got released? I've been waiting on that for like... years. And it's still not available on Steam.
I don’t understand. I guess I need to play the game to understand. ???

that cube in the code is a rainbow cube not a god cube
Good.
i'd wanna learn how to run this if i didn't have motion sickness
Just gotta play more fast motion games to cure your sickness.
ショートカットしまくりで草
Interesting run! That announcer though.
Was this game made by Dr. Strange?
what is this game even about
It's about changing your understanding of space and geometry.
falling
wtf is this game
