You know why? Because crime rates in Europe and Asia are lower, so people aren't afraid to ride public transportation. When crime rates are so high in American inner cities, people think anything urban (like public transit) equals crime, homelessness, and filth. So the only people who end up taking American public transport are people who have no other choice, who are poor/don't have cars--that is, homeless, college students, tourists, and single men on a tight budget who don't have to fear that their wife or kids will be attacked on mass transit, because they're single. I'll bet you that most of the solo women riders you see on the train who aren't poor or college students or tourists have martial arts training/have concealed carry.
In Europe and Asia, public transport goes to every neighbourhood in the city. This is because the cities were built for public transport. American cities were built for cars. So American public transport networks only serve the poorest areas of cities (unless you're in NYC) because that's where the transport is needed the most.
Oh they got on at Mall of America when I rode back to the airport and crowded where I was sitting, then basically told me to move so they could have the area. Was a great impression of the city to leave on me.
@@BeansRUs When I lived there and rode almost daily the transit cops only came if there was a situation already going on and the driver of the bus/train called them. Very rarely (like once or twice a month) did they come on the trains and check if everyone paid the fare. Not sure if it's different now or if it's worse now.
