Flax! Highly recommend for all levels! Tin Can Knits patterns are soooo fabulously well written, and they have a ton of helpful resources for those that are wanting either visual or written instructions and videos. I also love all of Melody/Mandarine's content. Why do I keep forgetting about Espace Tricot?! Thanks for the reminder! I'll be casting that on soon!
I agree, an easy knit, but when I knit mine when the pattern first came out, the sweater choked me because it lacked short rows in the back. Now that I am more experienced I would just add the short rows in.
Not a huge fan of knitting the same pattern more than once (there are so many out there!!) but I'm knitting my second Flax right now because I just love this pattern so much.
I came here to say this! I'm knitting a Flax right now and it's my first ever pullover sweater. It's simple to follow. I split for the sleeves yesterday and tried it on and was thrilled it fits! I think that's the most scary part for a new sweater knitter. There are so many good YT videos to watch if you're confused by any of the directions, but it's also very clear without any added guidance. Hoping to finish mine for Youngfolks Knits Bougie Sweatshirt KAL.
I also purchased "Seamless knit sweaters in 2 weeks" by Marie Greene. It is a soft cover book, has 21 sweater patterns. All are top down, some cardigans and some pullovers. SHE can do them all in 2 weeks(or less). It is where I got my first pattern from- her time frame was 10-12 days, took me closer to 2 and a half months. But her patterns are written very well, color photos of the finished sweaters and charts on the ones that need them. I highly recommend it.
I am a perpetual “beginner” knitter. I successfully completed Ranunculus! I also lost 50 pounds after I made it, but because of the beautiful design of this sweater, I know I can still wear it!

Thanks for the great suggestions. I just bought the Minna No sweater pattern and I’m really excited. It offers options for men’s sizing-I’m not a man- I’m tall with broad shoulders so I’m going to knit the men’s options for a better fit. Awesome 👍🏻
The Easy Eyelet Yoke Sweater by Knitatude. It's by far the fastest and easiest knit I have ever done. She has it in a cardigan version and a fingering version.
This was fab. Each new sweater which came up made me go “ooh, yes this is the one” I’ve really been looking at sweater pattern’s recently and not one of these came up. So it was lovely to see something new. Please, please, please could you do the same for cardigans. 🤞😊
I have to agree that Flax is a great starter sweater. I moved from pins to circulars recently and found the Flax sweater an ideal first project. I’ve since knitted one Flax and on my third Flax Lite. Also includes short rows, excellent instructions and videos. And the pattern is free!!!
The Autumn League and Winter League pullovers from Two of Wands are both free and really easy/relaxing to knit! They're basically the same shape, just written for two different weights of yarn.
Trying a top down sweater is on my wish list. I really like the look of the Thule sweater. I'm in the middle of a We Are Knitters Rice Jumper now (and socks, and knitted knockers and a temperature blanket.....)

The ranunculus is the most fun I’ve had knitting a sweater - it is quick, you can use any weight yarn, it looks great oversized and for me as a beginner fit was my biggest worry and it looks really impressive but the instructions are so easy to follow - there’s a reason people make more than one 😊

I literally just came off Ravelry, searching for sweaters and getting no where, and here you are to the rescue! lol I love all of your choices. I've knit Melody Hoffman's patterns before and they are great. I think I will knit the Calliope and I will be looking at all of these. I just got done going through all of my yarn, getting rid of what I will never use, and organized by yardage. And here I am, trying to match yardage with patterns. Thank you for all your inspiration. It helps! Oh, and my simple sweater to knit is the Ranunculus, of course!

I have been knitting since 1962 and have knitted something for every member of my family and extended family over the years. I have not knitted any thing for about 2 years. It’s a childrens pattern, but I’m currently working on my second Micah’s Raglan by HannahGKnits. It’s a simple raglan with cables in the seams and it is so much fun to knit. A good balance between mindless and not boring!

I just finished “peach fuzz“ by Melanie Berg. I made it in the Woolfolk far it has some striping, but is basically just ribbing and stockinette, it fits beautifully, and was really fun to make! The yarn is absolutely soft and scrumptious!
Hi, I have just found your videos. I learned to knit from my mum when I was young, but with the 2 needles and the “Throw method.”??? I think I watched a video on the “flick” method. I knitted. Lot in my younger years and then when I had my children. I would knit the front, back, sleeves, sew them up and pick up the stitches for the neck. Now in my 70s and retired I would love to get back into it. But knitting with circular needles eeek!,. I loved these patterns and would like to try the raglan sleeve jumper. When I learned, the patterns told you the ply, number of balls required for your size and needles to use. Most of my knitting was 8ply. Using size 10s and 8s! I have done cables, fair isle, lots of different patterns so I can follow patterns. It’s the wool and measurements I have a problem with. I do get arthritic pains in my wrists and thumbs so your way of knitting may be better for me. I will practice it and see how I go. Can you direct me to some information to help me getting back into the new age.🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺cheers from Aust.
Great suggestions👏. For the more adventurous beginners…from my experience, (larger chest, oddly shaped) the construction and design of the Terrazzo sweater by Petite knits has a wonderful upper body construction as well as the Sammensat by Elsabeth Judith are waaaay up there on my list of well explained, informative patterns. I’ve knit 2 of the Sammensat and the shoulder/sleeve construction is a game changer…The increases for yoke and arms of the Sammensat create curved raglan lines and this construction gives a better fit and prevent bulks at the body and arms. Just my opinion. There are so many wonderful knitwear designers out there that do focus on a customizable fit, cause we allll have different body types that need a bit of adjustments. I really enjoy your topics! Thank you so much for taking the time out to share with us!🤗🇨🇦

As I watched your informative and enjoyable podcast, I was knitting a version of my favorite top down vanilla sweater...The Vanilla Sweater from Corinne of The Woolly Thistle. I find it so relaxing and easy to modify and the resulting sweater is a wardrobe staple. I appreciate your comment that even if we don't make them, it's fun to read the patterns and choose yarn and envision what we might do, all of which may reinvigorate what is on the needles. The Tulip Sweater is on my list to knit! It is so beautiful. I have knit several pairs of socks using one of Melody Hoffmann’s pattern and it was so easy to follow and understand! This was such a great video and now I see another sweater or two that I want to make. If only I could knit all day! Thanks for sharing and motivating me more!
Thanks for all the great recommendations! I love the Trescao jumper, it’s such a versatile sweater and so lovely to knit. It’s a free pattern by Along avec Anna. I’ve made it twice without decreasing on the sleeve so it has a slight balloon sleeve and it’s adorable.
Top down sweaters are my favourite. I don't have the patience for much else and I just like the knitting experience. I'm currently making a top down cardigan. I have a book called The Knitters Handy Book of Top Down Sweaters that's good for basic patterns.
The Tulip sweater you are wearing looks beautiful on you. Great job. I recently knit my first sweater. It is called “The Comfort Sweater” on Ravelry. I changed it a bit. But I think you would like it as is because it has the extended rib sleeves you like on the arms and also on the bottom of the sweater. One piece raglan knit in the round. Easy to follow pattern instructions.
I live in northern Alberta, Canada. Warm and cozy is a challenge most winter days. So, here is my pick (which by the way is on my needles). The "Spadina Circle Pullover" is a free pattern on Ravelry which is pretty easy to navigate. Not sure why so few have tried it.
O my goodness Taylor. So many patterns so little time. I like the Seela and Minna No sweaters but i think I’m gonna try the Monday sweater first or Pink Memories or Sweater No15 or Dartmoor …. You see my dilemma 😊😊

I have downloaded the free patterns you featured... and will probably try those patterns this year. However, one of my goals this year is to be able to knit the Felix Pullover. I kid you not, I have read and read and read... then read the pattern again and again... but I simply just cannot comprehend the Instruction she gives. I have seen your podcast and others... where everyone makes it sound soooo easy... I regretted buying the pattern but since I already have it, I might as well really try even harder to understand it. I need to shop in my yarn stash for some acrylic yarns to practice... This way, no matter how many times I frog the project, I won't feel so bad spending money on the yarns. 🙂 Have a beautiful day Tayler!

Because I don't understand it, I wanted to skip that part and pretty much also want to skip the "lace part" on the shoulder area... But because I want to skip those parts, I don't know how to figure it out now... So now I feel like I have to do those parts in order for me to work the sweater. Since I don't understand the instructions at all, I can't move on to work on the sweater at all. I know it sounds very silly but I really just can't understand. I have already talked to my LYS here and said that they could help/teach me... but it will cost some $$$ of course (which I completely understand). So now I'm just debating whether it's even worth it for me to do this sweater or just knit a sweater pattern that I have already done but just use different yarns. 🙂
I am finishing up the Killington top-down pullover, pattern 114 in the basix series by Sue McCain. Size inclusive with 11 sizes. Calls for worsted weight yarn. I am using Nutiden and an alpaca-silk held together. Has set in sleeves and a cowl neck line. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow.

I purchased both of Tara Lynn Morrison’s books! I couldn’t help myself. So many beautiful sweaters and cardis. Super bulky. Knit up fast. Simple directions. Gorgeous photos in her books. Each pattern is available separately but I went a little nuts!
I used to own a crop top very similar to the Tulip about 20 years ago. It was store bought as I wasn't knitting in my twenties but I remember it because I found it super cute but I didn't wear it a lot because it was too short to cover my back and I hated that as Belgian winters are usually cold and wet. Anyway I still find the design cute but I'd rather make a kind of tunic with this Tulip pattern. Thanks for the ideas. Always nice and welcome 🙂
I just finished a Calliope for my Mom for Christmas. I made it a little more fitted (it's supposed to be quite boxy) and 3 inches longer in the body because my mom prefers that. It was so much fun and it looks really good! Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the Nuuk sweater as my first sweater. It is short sleeved (no sleeve island!) so it was alot less intimidating. :) I am currently working on a Sorrell and want to start on a Love Note. :)
Minna No Sweater, Afra Sweater, Seela, Tulip, and Calliope (with mods) are going on my list for the future. On my second shawl now. Shawls are my comfort knitting.
I really like the Aran Gallant Sweater by Caidree. I was attracted to is simplicity but different from standard raglans in the neckline and edging. I started last week and I only have one sleeve left. I learned left and right lifted increases and I cord edging. Using drops air. I can’t wait to make it again in another fabric.
I love the "fluffy set-in pullover" by Isabel Demarchais. It's only €3.00. You do have to pick up stitches for the sleeve caps and knit them on, but to me it's the most painless way of getting a true set-in sleeve. And I do like the look of a nicely set-in sleeve. So it's not knit in one piece, but there is no seaming. And I don't really like large gauge knitting and usually work everything in fingering weight yarn, (meaning my sweaters take forever) but I like this fabric because it's fluffy, and making it on 4mm needles means I feel like I'm flying through!

I’ve been waiting for the perfect pattern for this beautiful DK Aaramore Irish yarn, and the “it’s not a sweatshirt” is PERFECT! It’s the perfect shape and i know it’ll be a great outer layer since the yarn is a wool/cashmere blend!
I know it's been knit a million times, but I just finished my Cozy Classic Raglan by Jessie Maed Design. I modified the body and did a textured pattern to make it a little more interesting. This is the first sweater I have made where I am completely happy with the amount of ease and length. I am thinking about buying her cozy classic lite for a fingering weight version. Love all the patterns you picked, I may have to find something for Thule

Love the Tulip sweater you were wearing. I will definitely have to make this. I recently made the Sammensat 7 by Elsebeth Judith - which is a cropped top down, raglan sweater with a cute simple lace scalloped pattern at the hem. I love it over a long loose shirt or over a dress.
Thank you so much for sharing. I can honestly say that so far, any Sari Norlund's patterns are true to size, well written, well explained and fun. Her knitting gauge is very much middle of the road (neither loose nor tight).
Loved this video! Got some new ideas and was reminded of several sweaters that were already in my "favorites". I did start the Tulip sweater a few years ago when it came out...and I had some difficulty understanding a part of the increases. I don't remember exactly but I gave up. I still love the look of the sweater and it is actually still in a project bag...so I'll have to get it out and investigate further.
Recently finished my Calliope and highly recommend it. I used a fingering sock yarn, Emma, and a mohair held together. Stretched into perfectly oversized cozy.
I love seamless sweaters, I sew, and I do embroidery but I can't seam my knits. They always look like they were done by an angry four-year-old. Seamless has saved my knitting journey.

I knit the Calliope in 2021 and I wear it all the time. I've knit several versions of the Compass Sweater Lite by Claire Jackson. Easy but lovely v-neck, very customizable. A great color work pattern is Blizzard by Jessica McDonald. It's written to be suitable for first time color work knitters and the end result is gorgeous. I really appreciate your videos. Fun and informative : )
I’ve got a tulip on my needles right now…it’s actually my second time knitting it though because I was impatient and refused to swatch. Frogging it has been a nightmare so far! I had finished the scallops and everything!
I just knit the Calliope a month or so ago. It is everything you described in a simple, seamless, top down sweater. I enjoyed the knit so much, and was so pleased with the results, that I saved it in my “favorites - would knit again “ Pinterest files. Highly recommend.
I started my first sweater project tonight and it’s the novice sweater by PetiteKnit. It’s insanely simple so far, worsted weight, 6mm top down, stockinette stitch and it’s working up really quickly. I also got to try out Patons classic worsted from your “Rustic Yarn on a Budget” video

I absolutely love that tulip sweater that you are wearing! Right now I'm knitting the Balloon Sweater by Petiteknit, I think it's just so classy! so elegant! I love all of her designe, very simple, I've already knited twice the Holiday Slipover, and I can assure you that I will knit it again, and again! VERY fast to knit !

The flax sweater from Tin Can Knits was a nice simple pattern . I plan to add a flax hat to match from “Crazy Hands Knitting’s “ You tube tutorial.

In California, we say too-lee, and we have a fog pattern called Thule fog. It's deadly!

It’s a childrens pattern, but I’m currently working on my second Micah’s Raglan by HannahGKnits. It’s a simple raglan with cables in the seams and it is so much fun to knit. A good balance between mindless and not boring!
Yume. Loved knitting it, love wearing it. Made it inexpensively with holst garn. It would be lovely with a mohair.

I just finished “peach fuzz“ by Melanie Berg. I made it in the Woolfolk far it has some striping, but is basically just ribbing and stockinette, it fits beautifully, and was really fun to make! The yarn is absolutely soft and scrumptious!
Hi, I have just found your videos. I learned to knit from my mum when I was young, but with the 2 needles and the “Throw method.”??? I think I watched a video on the “flick” method. I knitted. Lot in my younger years and then when I had my children. I would knit the front, back, sleeves, sew them up and pick up the stitches for the neck. Now in my 70s and retired I would love to get back into it. But knitting with circular needles eeek!,. I loved these patterns and would like to try the raglan sleeve jumper. When I learned, the patterns told you the ply, number of balls required for your size and needles to use. Most of my knitting was 8ply. Using size 10s and 8s! I have done cables, fair isle, lots of different patterns so I can follow patterns. It’s the wool and measurements I have a problem with. I do get arthritic pains in my wrists and thumbs so your way of knitting may be better for me. I will practice it and see how I go.

For the more adventurous beginners…from my experience, (larger chest, oddly shaped) the construction and design of the Terrazzo sweater by Petite knits has a wonderful upper body construction as well as the Sammensat by Elsabeth Judith are waaaay up there on my list of well explained, informative patterns. I’ve knit 2 of the Sammensat and the shoulder/sleeve construction is a game changer…The increases for yoke and arms of the Sammensat create curved raglan lines and this construction gives a better fit and prevent bulks at the body and arms. Just my opinion. There are so many wonderful knitwear designers out there that do focus on a customizable fit, cause we allll have different body types that need a bit of adjustments. As I watched your informative and enjoyable podcast, I was knitting a version of my favorite top down vanilla sweater...The Vanilla Sweater from Corinne of The Woolly Thistle. I find it so relaxing and easy to modify and the resulting sweater is a wardrobe staple. I appreciate your comment that even if we don't make them, it's fun to read the patterns and choose yarn and envision what we might do, all of which may reinvigorate what is on the needles. The Tulip Sweater is on my list to knit! It is so beautiful. I have knit several pairs of socks using one of Melody Hoffmann’s pattern and it was so easy to follow and understand! This was such a great video and now I see another sweater or two that I want to make. If only I could knit all day! Thanks for sharing and motivating me more!
Thanks for all the great recommendations! I love the Trescao jumper, it’s such a versatile sweater and so lovely to knit. It’s a free pattern by Along avec Anna. I’ve made it twice without decreasing on the sleeve so it has a slight balloon sleeve and it’s adorable.

Top down sweaters are my favourite. I don't have the patience for much else and I just like the knitting experience. I'm currently making a top down cardigan. I have a book called The Knitters Handy Book of Top Down Sweaters that's good for basic patterns.
One of my favorites is the Palm Your Knits by Tipsyknitting. It's a wide scoop neck, short sleeved, one piece sweater.
The Tulip sweater you are wearing looks beautiful on you. Great job. I recently knit my first sweater. It is called “The Comfort Sweater” on Ravelry. I changed it a bit. But I think you would like it as is because it has the extended rib sleeves you like on the arms and also on the bottom of the sweater. One piece raglan knit in the round. Easy to follow pattern instructions.

I live in northern Alberta, Canada. Warm and cozy is a challenge most winter days. So, here is my pick (which by the way is on my needles). The "Spadina Circle Pullover" is a free pattern on Ravelry which is pretty easy to navigate. Not sure why so few have tried it.
O my goodness Taylor. So many patterns so little time. I like the Seela and Minna No sweaters but i think I’m gonna try the Monday sweater first or Pink Memories or Sweater No15 or Dartmoor …. You see my dilemma 😊😊

I have downloaded the free patterns you featured... and will probably try those patterns this year. However, one of my goals this year is to be able to knit the Felix Pullover. I kid you not, I have read and read and read... then read the pattern again and again... but I simply just cannot comprehend the Instruction she gives. I have seen your podcast and others... where everyone makes it sound soooo easy... I regretted buying the pattern but since I already have it, I might as well really try even harder to understand it. I need to shop in my yarn stash for some acrylic yarns to practice... This way, no matter how many times I frog the project, I won't feel so bad spending money on the yarns. 🙂 Have a beautiful day Tayler!

@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS - Awww Tayler... thank you. I'm having trouble where it starts to talk about Neck Shaping. Because I don't understand it, I wanted to skip that part and pretty much also want to skip the "lace part" on the shoulder area... But because I want to skip those parts, I don't know how to figure it out now... So now I feel like I have to do those parts in order for me to work the sweater. Since I don't understand the instructions at all, I can't move on to work on the sweater at all. I know it sounds very silly but I really just can't understand. I have already talked to my LYS here and said that they could help/teach me... but it will cost some $$$ of course (which I completely understand). So now I'm just debating whether it's even worth it for me to do this sweater or just knit a sweater pattern that I have already done but just use different yarns. 🙂

I am finishing up the Killington top-down pullover, pattern 114 in the basix series by Sue McCain. Size inclusive with 11 sizes. Calls for worsted weight yarn. I am using Nutiden and an alpaca-silk held together. Has set in sleeves and a cowl neck line. Instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
Me watching the video and all the while wondering about the sweater you're wearing! So glad you showcased it as nbr 6 - thank you!! The scalloped hem is adorable! The Tulip is now on my list. 😍

I purchased both of Tara Lynn Morrison’s books! I couldn’t help myself. So many beautiful sweaters and cardis. Super bulky. Knit up fast. Simple directions. Gorgeous photos in her books. Each pattern is available separately but I went a little nuts!

I used to own a crop top very similar to the Tulip about 20 years ago. It was store bought as I wasn't knitting in my twenties but I remember it because I found it super cute but I didn't wear it a lot because it was too short to cover my back and I hated that as Belgian winters are usually cold and wet. Anyway I still find the design cute but I'd rather make a kind of tunic with this Tulip pattern. Thanks for the ideas. Always nice and welcome 🙂
I have made two Calliope sweaters and I absolutely love them. It was a great pattern to follow and I am obsessed with my finished sweaters.
I just finished a Calliope for my Mom for Christmas. I made it a little more fitted (it's supposed to be quite boxy) and 3 inches longer in the body because my mom prefers that. It was so much fun and it looks really good! Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed the Nuuk sweater as my first sweater. It is short sleeved (no sleeve island!) so it was alot less intimidating. :) I am currently working on a Sorrell and want to start on a Love Note. :)

Minna No Sweater, Afra Sweater, Seela, Tulip, and Calliope (with mods) are going on my list for the future. On my second shawl now. Shawls are my comfort knitting.
I really like the Aran Gallant Sweater by Caidree. I was attracted to is simplicity but different from standard raglans in the neckline and edging. I started last week and I only have one sleeve left. I learned left and right lifted increases and I cord edging. Using drops air. I can’t wait to make it again in another fabric.
I love the "fluffy set-in pullover" by Isabel Demarchais. It's only €3.00. You do have to pick up stitches for the sleeve caps and knit them on, but to me it's the most painless way of getting a true set-in sleeve. And I do like the look of a nicely set-in sleeve. So it's not knit in one piece, but there is no seaming. And I don't really like large gauge knitting and usually work everything in fingering weight yarn, (meaning my sweaters take forever) but I like this fabric because it's fluffy, and making it on 4mm needles means I feel like I'm flying through!

I highly recommend the Capulus sweater by Refined Knitwear. I was a joy to knit, really quick and beautiful and cosy everyday garment.
I’ve been waiting for the perfect pattern for this beautiful DK Aaramore Irish yarn, and the “it’s not a sweatshirt” is PERFECT! It’s the perfect shape and i know it’ll be a great outer layer since the yarn is a wool/cashmere blend!

I know it's been knit a million times, but I just finished my Cozy Classic Raglan by Jessie Maed Design. I modified the body and did a textured pattern to make it a little more interesting. This is the first sweater I have made where I am completely happy with the amount of ease and length. I am thinking about buying her cozy classic lite for a fingering weight version. Love all the patterns you picked, I may have to find something for Thule

Love the Tulip sweater you were wearing. I will definitely have to make this. I recently made the Sammensat 7 by Elsebeth Judith - which is a cropped top down, raglan sweater with a cute simple lace scalloped pattern at the hem. I love it over a long loose shirt or over a dress.

I can honestly say that so far, any Sari Norlund's patterns are true to size, well written, well explained and fun. Her knitting gauge is very much middle of the road (neither loose nor tight).
Loved this video! Got some new ideas and was reminded of several sweaters that were already in my "favorites". I did start the Tulip sweater a few years ago when it came out...and I had some difficulty understanding a part of the increases. I don't remember exactly but I gave up. I still love the look of the sweater and it is actually still in a project bag...so I'll have to get it out and investigate further.
Recently finished my Calliope and highly recommend it. I used a fingering sock yarn, Emma, and a mohair held together. Stretched into perfectly oversized cozy.
I love seamless sweaters, I sew, and I do embroidery but I can't seam my knits. They always look like they were done by an angry four-year-old. Seamless has saved my knitting journey.

I knit the Calliope in 2021 and I wear it all the time. I've knit several versions of the Compass Sweater Lite by Claire Jackson. Easy but lovely v-neck, very customizable. A great color work pattern is Blizzard by Jessica McDonald. It's written to be suitable for first time color work knitters and the end result is gorgeous. I really appreciate your videos. Fun and informative : )

I’ve got a tulip on my needles right now…it’s actually my second time knitting it though because I was impatient and refused to swatch. Frogging it has been a nightmare so far! I had finished the scallops and everything!

I just knit the Calliope a month or so ago. It is everything you described in a simple, seamless, top down sweater. I enjoyed the knit so much, and was so pleased with the results, that I saved it in my “favorites - would knit again “ Pinterest files. Highly recommend.
I started my first sweater project tonight and it’s the novice sweater by PetiteKnit. It’s insanely simple so far, worsted weight, 6mm top down, stockinette stitch and it’s working up really quickly. I also got to try out Patons classic worsted from your “Rustic Yarn on a Budget” video
