    I had to look up the difference between Q bond and baking soda I have always used. Here was the answer I found: "Prior to Q-Bond I used to use baking soda as a filler for cyanoacrylate adhesives, but it's not something I recommend since it results in quite a violent reaction that releases nasty fumes. Q-Bond is not only safer, but the end results are much better"

    Great video and good job, Tom. Q Bond is an excellent product and has never let me down on any prop repair. For clear coat, I've only used clear rattle cans to finely balance both vertically and horizontally. On severe damage, I've drilled into the blade that requires balancing and filled with epoxy. Just check it doesn't react with the foam as you already know. Also keep in mind on engines running rich and "spooging" on the prop, it could react with the clear coat. That's my experience anyway. Hope some of it helps. Thanks for the video 🙂

    I could not focus on what you were even saying for the entire first 60 seconds because I was laughing at the slow motion. OMG don’t know why that was so funny. Terrific, educational video my friend.

    What I find super helpful doing these repairs is an oscillating multi tool with a sanding block. You can get them at harbor freight. Saves a ton of sanding by hand and allows you to get a more precise shape.
    Yes, Q-bond is amazing stuff. I've fixed many a prop with it.

    I had to repair my prop Saturday after foot dragging a gravel road (pro tip: don't do that). I repaired mine with medium CA, accelerator, 400 and 2000 grit wet sanding followed by two compounds on buffing wheels and finally waxing it. Just like new!

    How are you liking the Pluma? Is it comparable to the Scout being carbon fiber?

    • @Tommyflies
      @Tommyflies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Liking it a lot so far! They're similar in that they're both carbon fiber but different in a lot of other ways. Repairing the Pluma would be similar to the Scout though.

      I haven't done it yet, but am going to build a prop balancer. I think I recall people having success with lawnmower blade balancers though.

    What kind of clear coat do you use on a carbon fiber prop?

    • @Tommyflies
      @Tommyflies  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re gonna polish it, you need an epoxy based clear coat. Otherwise just use some rattle can clear coat (that’s what I do) ✌️

    • @yfz450manny
      @yfz450manny 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mitch G yeah... that’s not gonna work very well.. to get a very accurate balance that is.. A proper balancer should center precisely on the center hole of the prop. If not, u cannot properly balance the hub of the prop. Coming from a long time background in R/C aeromodeling I’m super surprised to see that no one is manufacturing and selling a proper prop balancer for PPG props. ☹️🤯

      @MitchG 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yfz450manny it's not 100% perfect but it gets them close enough that you cant tell a difference. Still better than not balancing at all like I have seen other people do

    Why does your prop look so wide? Does a 2.86 reduction prop have that different of a profile? Great vid btw 👍

    Hello. You should inform yourself with solid knowledge about composite materials, laminates and sandwich structures and how to make a repair on a carbon part before trying to make a repair of that type where you only filled with foam and glue the leading edge of a propeller where there is a broken laminate with all the risks that entails. Anyway, if I were you, I would first look for a professional to make a repair like that on a part that if it breaks...you could hurt yourself a lot or hurt someone else. "The prudent man sees the danger and hides." THAT REPAIR IS POORLY MADE AND THE PART IS AT HIGH RISK OF SUFFERING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE.
