Really great video that captured the essence of the disc golf challenge. The conclusions in the last few minutes felt the same as every recap at the end of a Sunday morning round. I appreciate the effort to have fun while also chasing achievement in the sport.
Wow. After watching this round it is pretty clear you have amazing potential. You have all the skills necessary to be a pro, now it’s just about consistency
So stoked for you Brodie!!!!!! That was an excellent first round. Practice will bring consistency, don't get down on yourself. Keep it up and thank you for being open to share your journey with us.
I used to play this course all the time when I was a kid probably 20 years ago (back when the first 4 holes were different, in fact I don’t even remember a back 9). I went back and played it again about a year ago and felt completely at home. Had no idea that this was Paul’s home course, but once I recognized it in the video it made me smile
Dude, I am so happy that this video has so many thumbs up and just a handful of thumbs down. I think the "haters" out there are starting to realize that your putting in the work and proving it more and more in every video you've been releasing. Brodie, your putting is good now, your drives are looking better and better. If you've improved this much already so far just getting into Disc Golf, just imagine how much your skill will progress after a full season of experience especially playing tournaments. I bet you're going to be a top pro one day with this kind of determination and just natural athletic skill. Right on dude.. right on.
I’m really enjoying the idea of watching a talented disc thrower learn disc golf and go through all the trials we’ve all faced! This should be an epic series on your journey to 1000 rated golf! Good luck Brodie!
Whenever I get a notification that you have a new video I get stoked to watch it. Seeing you progress so fast is crazy and inspiring. Good luck on the up coming tour season, and can't wait to watch you play your first ever tournament.
I think this will be one of the most interesting experiments. There is nothing like being in your first tourney but also you have been on a bigger stage than most of us here with your ultimate career. You’re also stronger and know how to control a disc in such a natural way. I’ve been playing for a long time but don’t anymore and one like “could I shoot better than you in a tournament?” I really don’t know but can’t wait to see your grow quickly.
Man, even if you don’t end up filming your rounds I’d love to see at least the “round reaction” like you guys did. Even if it’s just you. Great video dude. Keep slinging them discs! 🔥😎

The commentary on your play is amazing and you're not afraid to ask the questions that were all thinking. Please keep all this amazing content coming!
Commentary over practice rounds is where it’s at. Was asking for more videos like this last summer, keep doing these and Paul should do more practice commentary also
Brodie you are catching on VERY fast. Tournaments are a lot different then casual. Just keep learning your molds and what plastic works best for your throws. Love being able to watch your progression in the sport I love. Hope to get to meet you some day if you come to Michigan!
Really, really great work you are doing documenting your journey in disc golf, dude. Love the attitude, love your class, love the hard work, love the honest self-awareness! Really pulling for you to achieve your goals, Brodie. (and of course mad shout out to the McBeths in your vids - Paul and Hannah are fire)
Brodie I am happy for you. I cant wait to see more of you and the discraft team. I am looking at my bag and my throws so much more because of you and Paul. Just keep it up and it will be great. :)
Way to commit to the full round. Just like most people you had a rollercoaster first round. This made you even more relatable and it’s awesome with the commentary to hear how you felt. LOVED THIS VIDEO!
I love how Paul was absolutely serious and real with you, the others were being nice but they definitely could of gave some more constructive criticism... been watching all these videos, this journey has been amazing and you are getting so good, glad the improvement is going so well, I'd like to see you stop rushing your shots and take a breathe and did what you did on the first 4 holes! Of course you can't always birdie every hole but you definitely are good enough to get 5 plus under at that course! Also you can get the name birdie Smith, may sound dumb but could be legit if you just birdie all day haha
Keep it up Brodie, your scores will only get better along with your rating over the year! Always nice to hear about what you were thinking during the round too
Way to go Brodie! Maybe not quite what you were hoping for but you broke that 900 and you've got all star potential man. That tournament stress can throw anyone off but I think you'll be epic once you get more more of that experience like you were talking about. Those first 4 shots were gorgeous. Keep up the good work dude!
I started playing in June and my first rated round was 877 a couple weeks ago at an ice bowl. I'm enjoying seeing you learn all the stuff I've picked up and hearing all of Paul's tips. Great job grinding that one out...can't wait to see how the summer goes!

2 VIDEO IDEAS: 1: Paul can only use starter pack vs Hannah and Brodie. 2: Kelsey has to pick the disc for each one of Paul’s shots vs Brodie straight up Probably more of offseason type stuff but has some potential..
Congrats! I still don’t have a PDGA number. I am a disabled veteran, so it is hard to play an 18 hole course and I struggle but I still get out there. I throw discraft and just ordered the 2020 Ledgestone CryZtal flx zone. Can’t wait check it out. Good luck on your first tournament.
Not bad for your first tournament round! I mean I shot 18 over in my first tournament (Sexton Shootout). Granted it was a new course for me that I hadn't practiced on with discs I hadn't thrown before (Destroyer, Mako3). And oh boy the nerves were sky high. The score was total garbage but man I was happy afterwards. I made it through my first tournament and even got to play a hole with Nate Sexton. Really cool experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. It's really cool to see your journey from the beginning and I am sure you will get there with the big boys sooner rather than later since you have The Goat himself to teach you. I wish you best of luck in all the tourneys to come! Keep slinging those discs!
Solid work, Brodie. Disc golf, golf... it's so much about the mental game when it comes to rated rounds. I'm guessing you throw at least one rated round north of 1000 within four months.
I was watching the first 4 holes dishearteningly thinking that Brodie surpassed my skills with less than 2 months of training lol. You have some mad skills. I'm excited to see your game keep growing.
You did the same thing in this round that I do everytime I play regular golf. First few holes my game plan works. Then a couple bad shots happen then i go back to my old swing as the adjustment and then its all over. I can hit great shots all day long at the range, but as soon as I hit the course its like I never was at the range. In disc golf luckily that doesn't happen, I am actually good there.
I am in your boat Brodie. I am just learning the game and am being coached by a top pro. I noticed 2 things when you got "stuck". I was not at the course but it looked like on some of your missed drives you were trying to put too much angle on the disc instead of throwing flat. When I start failing I go back to flat drives to recover my form and it really helps me get back on track. The second thing I noticed was on some semi-blocked approach shots you tried to throw to the pin instead of out and back through the biggest window. I struggle with the sharp shooter mentality and find I get much closer to the basket throwing a Ringer on a line away from the basket through a big window with the angle needed to bring it back to the basket. I admire your work ethic the the fast growth you have made in your game it inspires me to keep pushing to improve my form and mental game and understanding of the courses.
This is such a good example of how different tourney play is than casual play! Good to see Brodie has the skill level and the putting abilities to compete, once he gets that golf strategy and mental game down he will be good!
I played my first pdga event earlier this year and I shot a 950 rated round and then did what you did my second round and kind fell apart a little but I know I could have done way better so was a great pressure learning curve and I went in with low expectations so I think you did good man keep grinding bro hope to see you out there live one day!🤙🏼
Really nice to see that being calm, focussed and humble is growing on ya. Bigmouthing, trash talking and posing is great for trickshots and fun rounds and you will keep that up as well don't ya. ;) Kudos to your ZEN teacher Paul. You enhance an incredible team Discraft. Lets propel then sport.
Keep it up, bud! You have great coaches! And you’ll get it down. Looking forward to seeing you grow in disc golf. Once you start.. you just get hooked! Also... play Audubon Park in Garland. It’s my favorite place to play in Dallas county. My home course!
Man you're gonna be successful in disc golf. 930 round for a first after practicing like what, 2 months? Really good content and im crossing my fingers for your next competitions!
Brodie! You’re in your own head a lot here. In every competitive environment you have to get into the mindset of playing to win and not playing just not to lose.
Brodie Smith don’t sweat it if it takes time. You’ve been out of top tier competition for awhile. Just need to get the same confidence in your disc golf as you had in your ultimate.
I fucking love to follow your progress. Best content on youtube apart from major event coverages. And I do consume a ton of content overall so thats saying something. I just hope that the next vid pops up any second at all times. Btw white balance issue on the summary :P
Great improvements overall bud. Chin up. I’d recommend reading “the Inner Game of Tennis”. It talks about how we mentally tighten up in competition (in all sports). Specifically - It wasn’t that you weren’t committing on your shots. Your lack of confidence (and inner voice) creates rigid muscles and it teaches you how to overcome that. Must read.
Howzit Brodie. Thanks for introducing me to disc golf. I play “ball” golf, but can’t wait to try “slingin’ the disc”. I live in Tokyo and found a course nearby. Located a disc golf shop and will start building a bag. I’m not an athlete like you and Paul. What do you guys suggest a beginning beginner’s bag should contain (DiscCraft is cool)? I also noticed you guys sometimes hold one disc and throw another. Is the other disc for balancing/stabilization? Much mahalo brah!!!!
Hey Brodie, Hole 7, 5:01, what is Paul referring to when he says "no follow through"? When I think of follow-through, I think of upper body, but that looked the same as other holes.
Way to keep after it! Definitely have a natural gift with discs. Those first four holes looked like a McBeast round, potential is definitely there. Once the mental and conditioning follows Brodie is gonna be a monster Would love to be on a card with him one day
I'm not giving up on the ultra star comment Brodie. Think about those low ceiling up shots that were left short. Easy money with an ultra star. Also those short slow panning left to right up shots. You can do that all night and day. Potentially shedding a couple strokes I'd say. Either way amazing play with little experience. Excited to see more.
You came out on fire! Then the pucker factor effect kicks in of holy sheets I am -4 after 4 holes! Face goes numb and palms getting sweaty! You held on like your dirty shorts! Congrats on your first 930 score dude who just started! 🤬 I have barely broke 900 in my 5years of throwing! 😳
To be completely honest with you, when I first stumbled across your channel I thought you were a little obnoxious, but the deeper I dive the happier I get over your progress. I hope you do great in Waco.
Well that didn't go the way I had hoped, but I learned a lot. One of the early steps I have to take in my disc golf career.

This is such a good example of how different tourney play is than casual play! Good to see Brodie has the skill level and the putting abilities to compete, once he gets that golf strategy and mental game down he will be good!
Dude this is awesome. So cool you are learning so much from these videos.
That starting clip sums up my disc golf skills right now
I played my first pdga event earlier this year and I shot a 950 rated round and then did what you did my second round and kind fell apart a little but I know I could have done way better so was a great pressure learning curve and I went in with low expectations so I think you did good man keep grinding bro hope to see you out there live one day!🤙🏼
Those "Get Freaky" Zones are going to cost sooooo much money when people flip them.
How did you get them, were they for sale?
I’m bout to register for an event
The Brazos East course in Waco is the first ever disc golf course I ever played. I wish I was going to be in Texas that week!
Seriously cannot wait to see you in a tournament! 🙌
Watching this journey is brilliant. Keep up the grind 👍👍
Congrats love your hard work!
It’s paying off!!! Keep it up!
Keep it up, bud! You have great coaches! And you’ll get it down. Looking forward to seeing you grow in disc golf. Once you start.. you just get hooked!
Also... play Audubon Park in Garland. It’s my favorite place to play in Dallas county. My home course!
Impressed with how fast you’ve progressed!
14:07 is the answer to the condition of those "white" shorts
I’ve played this course a lot. so cool to see you play there
Brodie ur a beast. Keep up the hard work. Paul is a good teacher.
Man you're gonna be successful in disc golf. 930 round for a first after practicing like what, 2 months?
Really good content and im crossing my fingers for your next competitions!
6 weeks. 2 weeks with a full bag
Keep Slingin them Discs! See you in Waco!
See you there
Brodie! You’re in your own head a lot here. In every competitive environment you have to get into the mindset of playing to win and not playing just not to lose.
There were a lot of things I learned from this round that I will fix and take with me.
Brodie Smith don’t sweat it if it takes time. You’ve been out of top tier competition for awhile. Just need to get the same confidence in your disc golf as you had in your ultimate.
Best advice is "clear the mechanism before your shots" and be confident you are a natural. Do you boo. Wishing the best for you man.
Nicely done, brother! Great putting! Congratulations!
leaves on trees in February thats wild
I fucking love to follow your progress. Best content on youtube apart from major event coverages. And I do consume a ton of content overall so thats saying something. I just hope that the next vid pops up any second at all times. Btw white balance issue on the summary :P
Brodie has gotten better in 3 months than I have my entire disc golf career.
Way to get into the tourneys your getting better each day growing them wings NICEEEEE
Must read.
Keep it up Brodie. You have the dedication and determination now just need the patience...
That's a great first rating man. Really hope you are able to compete at Waco!
Well it can only go up haha
my first rating was 920 i was happy, Arkansas state open 2016, also switch from ultimate back in 2008 :), glad to see you came to the dark side
Haha we shall see
At least give it a shot. (Pun) lol
Welcome to tournament play. Stay in it. You’ve got it
You came out on fire!
I love casual rounds with friends, but there’s nothing like an official PDGA rated tourney!
To be completely honest with you, when I first stumbled across your channel I thought you were a little obnoxious, but the deeper I dive the happier I get over your progress. I hope you do great in Waco.
