dont forget he was basically "born with a frisbee in his hand" he did not just pick it up last week. Big diff then a regular hack ;) either way he is gonna do just fine.
You know, the footage is actually pretty good. I've seen worse from companies who have been around a lot longer. If anything, I think what you are doing is great for the sport, because it gives us a chance to see how someone enters the tournament world professionally from a novice standpoint. You've been vlogging for a while, so you are giving much needed exposure for our sport, even if half of it comes from ultimate players (hi friends!). Not to mention you and your wife are good people. Thanks for what you're doing, Brodie. Keep it up and good luck.
It’s awesome to see you dedicating to the standstill to ensure proper form down the road. I’m digging your content and think that the videos you’ve created so far documenting your journey will have a great impact on new players you bring to the sport. Keep it up!
Got to play a practice round 5 years ago at usdgc with philo and and one of his buddies and that was the best advice anyone has ever gave me... to stop the run up because I was awful lol and put away the 12 speed drivers and just standstill rocs and putters. That piece of advice and getting my own basket to putt on at home change the game forever for me
Love when he calls himself out on the straddle putt, that's a really good sign when you can look back and self-analyze without making excuses. I can't wait to see his progress in 2020.
Great to see Kelsey!!!!! Thanks for listening and I am super happy to see that she is supporting your endeavors. Hopefully I’ll get to meet you out on the course one of these days!
i just hit my third ever 18 hole course today and threw a +3. Not amazing for such an easy course, but I'm really proud of it. Can give a lot of credit to this channel though! This video just shows how Brodie's Ultimate background carries through so well into disc golf (I'm sure lessons from Paul McBeth helped a little too lol). Love how this was filmed, the commentary over the pre recorded run was cash.
Way to go Bro! 💪🏻 Best new thing to happen to disc golf in years. Definately more of these! I would say that the most impressive thing about your game at this point is that you really know when to let go of the disc when you throw. I haven't seen any bad shanks on any of these videos. Keep slingin' them discs!
Awesome content man! One thing I like to do on a shorter course like this to get better is play 2 rounds. 1 round, only throw back hand drives, the other only throw forehand drives. Helps to learn how to shape all kinds of shots! Keep up the work man!
These vids are brightening up the world of disc golf. Virtually all the guys on my home course are talking about them. This weekend had more newbies than I've ever seen, and when I asked one of them about it he said he saw these vids. Keep up the great work!
I was talking with my girlfriend yesterday about your journey and learning disc golf. She's new to it and your videos and commentary with Paul has help my game and helps me to better explain technique. Thanks for having this.
Hey Brodie, I have been interested in DiscGolf and I think you have helped me get to it. I live in Hawaii so its nice year round to play (and cheaper than real golf which I also enjoy) :)
Check out UDisc, the PDGA and Disc Golf Course Review for organizations, players and courses on your island. Welcome to the best golf crowd on the planet Chazzy Mac :-)
I remember watching you as a kid and see you make those crazy trick shots with the ultimate frisbees that I grew up throwing with my dad and brother! And It’s so exiting to take part of your skill in creating and carry through contents in the sport that I now have been in love with for a year! I’m really happy that I have the possibility to follow your progress through the same YT chanel that I grew up with! Thanks for putting smiles on my face Brodie! Love from Sweden
I think you're fine moving those twigs from where your lie would be. The rules state in 803.01 section B subsection 1 (god that sounded like a joke but it's serious): A player may move casual obstacles that are on or behind the lie partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie. A casual obstacle is any item or collection of loose debris (such as stones, leaves, twigs, or unconnected branches), or any item as designated by the Director. So basically if the branch is in your lie (defined in 802.05 section D as a rectangle that is 20cm wide and 30cm deep, centered on the line of play behind the rear edge of the marker disc) and is just on the ground not connected to any tree, you can move it regardless of if it extends in front of your disc. Or at least, that's how i interpret the rule.
@@Leojosh84 Actually there is a little stipulation here, you can move anything on your lie or in your stance, but if it is behind your stance and only in the way of your run-up, you can't move it. Although you see people move stuff in their run-up all the time.
Dude I'm proud of you. You're taking things seriously. You're learning, and I think you're helping a lot of people start in this super fun sport. Thanks for staying humble and showing how even a newer player can Excel and learn to play better.
Watching your journey has been great! It's been motivating me to get out there more, practice more and have fun more. Love your energy and keep up the great work, looking forward to what you're gonna bring to the disc golf scene!!!
I'm so impressed man. I've been following you for 8+ years and caught the disc golf but about 5 years ago. Keep up the hard work, is already paying off a ton!
Brodie I've said this before but I absolutely love how serious you're taking this disc golf transition. You're doing awesome, keep it up and keep it simple. Trust your talent and don't shoot for the moon this season just gain experience and have fun. You've made me subscribe to your channel after this series of disc golf vids. Good luck and stay grounded when you do well because disc golf will humble the cocky man.
Re: The thorn bush, generally you just need to man up and throw from there. *UNLESS* the tournament director has explicitly declared casual relief for them. Or, you can *always* take an optional relief (803.02D, new lie which is farther from the target and in the line of play, so basically "as far back in a direct line with the basket from your current position as you want) or abandon the throw, at the cost of a penalty throw.
Very good answer. I think its helpful to point out that a player who takes the optional relief receives one penalty throw unless the previous throw was out of bounds. I.e. you can only be penalized once per throw so if the disc was out of bounds you are allowed to take optional relief without another penalty. If the lie was not out of bounds and the player chooses to take relief, the player receives one penalty throw.
Hey Brodie, great content! I've been playing disc golf since 1993, and it is so fun to be able to see your approach to the sport. You are giving me the opportunity to view our sport through "fresh eyes" and reminding me why I fell in love with it in the first place. Keep up the hard work on the course, and the good work with the videos!
Love that your taking the right steps to progress into a solid player. Learning your angles on putter/mid courses is always going to bring you success down the line. Fun content 🤘
I remember watching your trick shot videos years ago. Then I saw your urban disc golf videos and wished you would do some consistent (and actual disc golf vids). Now here we are in the beginning of a decade loving your vids and loving watching your progress. Hope you kill it this season and hope it's a ton of fun after rougher season of life.
Keep it up brides. Followed you for quite some time. I'm a long time and avid DG player and follower. Seeing you take this route is not only courageous but inspirational for others to see you take on so much and never even think of failure. Never quite!!
Hi from New Zealand. You are a great inspiration. I am 55 and took up the sport only 2 months ago. The YT videos from you, Simon and Paul are what I look up first each day. And it is because of you guys I have to now go buy a new laundry basket and tea towels. The current one has been converted to a practice basket lined with the tea towels to cushion the discs :) (My neighbours must think I have totally lost the plot). Good luck for the 2020 season. And thanks for sharing your round. It is only a matter of time before you dial the power right for the basket, and when you do, I think you will be causing a few jaws to drop on the circuit :)
What an awesome attitude you have Brodie! You will be a force on the Pro DG tour in a short while. Your talent is obvious..... You'll get a handle on it all pretty fast I predict. Its going to be amazing when you start throwing full-speed drivers. Can't wait to see you on tour. Keep it rolling.
Love the McBeth imitation with the left foot wiggle when you putt. 😂 Dude, I'll watch pretty much any disc golf content you put out! I really like all of it so far, especially the weird battles. I've been playing for a few years myself, with a bit of Ultimate background before that, and you were always my go-to for Ultimate tips and tricks. I've followed both your channels for a while now, and it's pretty cool to see someone like you exploring and falling in love with this sport!
Don't think I've ever seen this side of you, it's awesome. Really impressed with your game, and how well you're progressing. Sick commentary, too, good balance between seriousness and humor. Keep at it dude, would love more videos like this from you.
I am really enjoying these videos. Learning a lot watching Brodie try to learn himself and be competitive. Some of the most useful info and tips I’ve gotten so far. Cool to watch MCBETH give useful tips and then watch Brodie applying the info.
"People watched me for golf/ultimate, but now I'm doing disc golf..." I watch because I like Brodie Smith. Not a golf fan at all, but I enjoyed his golf videos as well. He makes golf entertaining 😂
I'm from Gainesville and have been following you since the Florida Ultimate days. As a fan, but also both an ultimate and a disc golf player, it's been awesome to see your growth as a player. Best of luck this year
I appreciate your approach to learning the game, it helps to legitimize disc golf as a true sport. Would also love to see you commentate on some JoMez! Keep up the good work!
Definitely fun to watch you get better each time. 372’ stand still is pretty crazy. Flipping your disc, and moving any debris that would move your disc is a no no. Keep it coming!
To his throwing credit, Brodie was arguably the best thrower on the planet with a 175g discraft ultrastar for 2 to 5 years prior to ever playing disc golf.
Brodie man I'm so stoked to watch you play this year. Just listening you talk about the sport from a little ways back when you were playing with Paul and Simon to hearing you now. You've come a long way and that makes me so happy 😁. Keep slinging plastic brother!
I never thought I'd see the Darkhorse struggling in thorn trees disc golfing :). Watch out for other hazards: poison ivy and tics, primarily. I got a nasty poison ivy rash that lasted months when it got rubbed into an existing thorn wound. As a result, I always wear long sleeves and pants, regardless of the heat.
Gotta be careful with using warp stabilizer in your editing software on the hole shots while walking. For slightly shaky footage it makes look worse honestly. You might want to invest in a gimbal for smooth walking shots if you plan to do more of these. Overall enjoying your DG journey, best of luck!
Absolutely loving the content! Its great to see your progress with the throw, as well as the lingo and whole culture around our beloved disc golf. Your enthusiasm reminds me of when I was starting out myself, every day an opportunity to learn. Even the "ghetto drone view" was perfect, a lazier man would have just skipped it all together and I applaud you for the effort! Again, loving the content, this enthusiasm is exactly what we need to get hyped for the coming season!
I saw that suggested on a previous video and had time to go in and add it. Unfortunately tomorrow's video won't have it as I already have it ready to go, but in the future I will be sure to add ft and meters
I’m glad you are going this route with disc golf. Being more professional is what disc golf needs and you are definitely bringing that. I thought you were gonna go the over the top “dude” route and was worried at first. Keep up the informative videos for the new audiences. Awesome job again
Definitely want to see more of these videos! I love that you tell us what you are throwing, that’s perfect! Makes me want to go buy one when you see the flight that you called out! Can’t wait to see you in competition! You should do a vid where you show up to a league night and do your thing!
It’s amazing to see how good Brodie got with the finess of the sport as compared to and the transition of the body conditioning and different use of force and throws with 1 disc style in ultimate. Keep it up Brodie your getting good fast.
I would tell you what my wife would tell me if I asked her to brave the wind & chill to film me playing Disc Golf But this is a family channel #stillinthenewlywedphase
803.01 B1: A player may move casual obstacles that are partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie. A casual obstacle is any item or collection of loose debris (such as stones, leaves, twigs, or unconnected branches), or any item as designated by the Director.
I find you seriously addictive, your personality always shines, even when your not talking to the camera I love it. I’m a greenkeeper and love golf, but my work mate just gave me a disc to throw around, a BIG Z- CRANK... don’t what it is but it flysssssss... so I’ll be doing a lot more SLANGGGGGGGING BRA’ ☮️
Glad to see someone with your follower count doing these types of videos. Helps growing the sport. Also stop being better than us slubs who've been playing for years
Enjoyed the video. Honestly, I just enjoy your personality, competitiveness and approach to your videos. I’ll keep watching regardless of what your next passion is. Trickshots were awesome. Really enjoyed the golf. This is entertaining as well. You keep being you and do what you enjoy. That passion comes through on the videos and that’s why I watch. ... and I want to watch you tackle this and dominate.
Nice content, interesting to see how your first season will go! PS. Check out DJI Osmo Mobile 3 stabiliser for smartphones. Lightweight, won't break the bank and will bring production value in smoother shots.
The correct thing to do on Hole 2 would have been to mark your lie with a mini, then pick up your disc and move the loose debris that would have been in your stance.
I am loving the positivity you are bringing to the sport. Thank you! I now have my favorite pro in Paul and my favorite amateur. Not sure what I will do when you go pro!
Followed you from Trick shots... Amazing Race... to Golf... and now Disc golf. Me and my son play competitive Disc golf. Love watching your growth and approach to this awesome sport.
One big benefit that can be gained is finding that correct putt "grip." The easiest way I found, besides taking a 2nd/3rd putt from where my lie is, is that when you're practice putting: - Toss a disc down onto the ground, stamp-side up - Pick up that disc that you tossed in preparation for putting - How your hand comfortably and naturally grabs the disc, gives you a good indicator of what your natural grip reflects. This is why, typically, that 2nd putt try after missing close, usually goes in. I think finding where the grip and everything feels perfect, allows you to do "effortless" and wobble-less putts and will really elevate the game between 20-30ft. Great video!
Moving those branches is ok, but you are right about the disc. The best way to do this would have been putting a marker under the branches and then move all the branches. Rule book says "A player may move casual obstacles that are partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie". In 2018 rule said that obstacle can be removed if it is on or behind the lie. Rule created in 2019 is much better, because it clearly says that you can remove a longer branch even if it extends in front of the lie.
Ya with the debris moving yes you can move things behind the disc and you should probably mark your disc on hole 2 though if you were in a tournament because your disc did move while moving the tree limbs. Love the content though
Hell yes Brodie! So hyped for you to be getting into disc golf! And so cool of you to be shouting out JomezPro as much as you do! Those guys really deserve a big bump in their subscribers. Hardest working disc golf production team in the sport for sure. People don't even understand how good disc golf coverage can be until they check out JomezPro's youtube channel. You are the shit Brodie! Keep it up man! BTW, for how long you've been putting in work on the DG course, you are killing it dude!

He's got extensive experience with slinging an ultimate disc. So, it's not like it's his first month throwing a disc. Regardless, still impressive
Pretty much.

I'm getting jomez vibes from this. and I really like how you have adapted the soft voice for it. Great material to sleep to. Nice stuff Brodie
I’ve enjoyed watching you through the years. Best of the best for you and your disc golf career! And yes to longer courses!
You’re inspiring me to throw more midrange sidearm shots. You’re killing it!! And that putt on 16...ouch
I felt that one
Definitely want to see plenty more solo rounds like this! You crushed it with 11 down using nothing but Mids and Putters with 1 fairway. Great round!
What an incredible round, and I’m amazed at how quickly and naturally you take to the game! You planning to tour at some point?
I love your recent evolution into the great sport of Disc Golf Brodie!! Keep the inspiration going and I love watching your disc golf videos!!!
Hey thank you for the meters 👌🏻🤩
I saw that suggested on a previous video and had time to go in and add it. Unfortunately tomorrow's video won't have it as I already have it ready to go, but in the future I will be sure to add ft and meters
Everyone is getting more pumped everyday. This just adds fuel to the fire. Your wife did a great job with video and shot alignment.
Got my first and only ace on hole #3 (anhyzer with a midrange).
That is a fun hole!
I’m glad you are going this route with disc golf. Being more professional is what disc golf needs and you are definitely bringing that.
I thought you were gonna go the over the top “dude” route and was worried at first.
Keep up the informative videos for the new audiences.
Awesome job again
Fritz park Irving Tx. Is the oldest disc golf course in the metroplex. I'd be happy to show you around. Keep up the hard work.
Definitely want to see more of these videos! I love that you tell us what you are throwing, that’s perfect! Makes me want to go buy one when you see the flight that you called out! Can’t wait to see you in competition! You should do a vid where you show up to a league night and do your thing!
Come to Memphis (when the trees turn green) and play Bud Hill! Nice drive on number 7 btw 👍
I'm right down the road in munford playing valentine it's a small world lol bud hill is definitely superior
@@mutinyrider666 That course has a good way of reminding me I'm not that good at disc golf haha
It’s amazing to see how good Brodie got with the finess of the sport as compared to and the transition of the body conditioning and different use of force and throws with 1 disc style in ultimate. Keep it up Brodie your getting good fast.
I would tell you what my wife would tell me if I asked her to brave the wind & chill to film me playing Disc Golf
But this is a family channel
#stillinthenewlywedphase
I'm not married yet but my fiancee would surely say something similar
803.01 B1: A player may move casual obstacles that are partially or completely on the lie or in the stance area, regardless of whether they extend in front of or behind the lie. A casual obstacle is any item or collection of loose debris (such as stones, leaves, twigs, or unconnected branches), or any item as designated by the Director.
I want nothing more than for somebody to clip Kelsey saying "woooooooooooow" and use that for every slow mo shot
I find you seriously addictive, your personality always shines, even when your not talking to the camera I love it.
I’m a greenkeeper and love golf, but my work mate just gave me a disc to throw around, a
BIG Z- CRANK... don’t what it is but it flysssssss... so I’ll be doing a lot more SLANGGGGGGGING BRA’
☮️
That's one of my favorite courses. You should try out the Bill Allen course.
Glad to see someone with your follower count doing these types of videos. Helps growing the sport. Also stop being better than us slubs who've been playing for years
Hole 16, we want the "no bro"!
Jomez does a thing where if a player misses a putt and it was unlucky or something it's called a "nomez".
I'm pretty sure he's aware of the origin.
Haha
Enjoyed the video. Honestly, I just enjoy your personality, competitiveness and approach to your videos. I’ll keep watching regardless of what your next passion is. Trickshots were awesome. Really enjoyed the golf. This is entertaining as well. You keep being you and do what you enjoy. That passion comes through on the videos and that’s why I watch. ... and I want to watch you tackle this and dominate.
Moving the dead trees/debris like you did on hole 2 was completely legal as it was both dead and unattached.
Should have marked his lie beforehand. Then it wouldn't have been on top of anything, then move the brush away.
Yeah the moving of debris was ok, picking the disc up to do it not so much.
Valid points
You getting into disc golf has got me fired up to start playing again and getting more active!!! Keep up the fun vids!!!
Nice content, interesting to see how your first season will go! PS. Check out DJI Osmo Mobile 3 stabiliser for smartphones. Lightweight, won't break the bank and will bring production value in smoother shots.
All standstill shots off the tee! Dude is a beast! Brodie will change the 2020 season!
The correct thing to do on Hole 2 would have been to mark your lie with a mini, then pick up your disc and move the loose debris that would have been in your stance.
Thank you!
@@BrodieSmith - Also, you can't flip your disc to mark it in tournament play. These videos are great, looking forward to seeing how you do this year.
I am loving the positivity you are bringing to the sport. Thank you! I now have my favorite pro in Paul and my favorite amateur. Not sure what I will do when you go pro!
"Keep Slinging it Darkhorse" might be a better outro slogan?
Followed you from Trick shots... Amazing Race... to Golf... and now Disc golf. Me and my son play competitive Disc golf. Love watching your growth and approach to this awesome sport.
Re: Hole 13. Discovery is the fuel of dreams (or nightmares) =).. you should hit Paul up for some stories about thorns or poison ivy :D
Heck yes Brodie! I love watching the grind. Keep the full course videos coming dark horse style.
A tree behind my disc: exist
Chainsaw: I'll end this man's whole career
One big benefit that can be gained is finding that correct putt "grip." The easiest way I found, besides taking a 2nd/3rd putt from where my lie is, is that when you're practice putting:
- Toss a disc down onto the ground, stamp-side up
- Pick up that disc that you tossed in preparation for putting
- How your hand comfortably and naturally grabs the disc, gives you a good indicator of what your natural grip reflects.
This is why, typically, that 2nd putt try after missing close, usually goes in. I think finding where the grip and everything feels perfect, allows you to do "effortless" and wobble-less putts and will really elevate the game between 20-30ft.
Great video!
Hole 2 that was illegal to pick up your disc to move that branch. You are allowed to move dead fallen branches that are in your stance and/or run up
Additionally you can’t flip over your disc to make a lie. You either have to throw from behind or mark it with a mini or another disc.
@@candydude2048 You actually can't use another disc, it has to fit the criteria of a mini marker. A full size disc is too large for the PDGA ruling
Interesting thanks for the clarification
Ok good to know. Thanks
Keep the content coming. Branching away (temporarily) from ball golf was the best thing you've ever done for the channel.
Slow Bros, No Bros
We want more Bro
Watch out for the twigs
You rock Brody! Super inspirational for a intermediate disc golfer like me! Keep on being awesome!
Dammit Brodie, I just started studying!!!
It's great to see you enjoying the sport so much. I'm looking forward to seeing more disc golf stuff!
