I am 58 and have lived in Whittier my whole life. I remember these incidents well. I am a Whittier College grad, and I remember the feeling of bad blood at the time between Whittier PD and the college due to Detective Pierce's injury and subsequent death. We are blessed to have a police force as high quality as Whittier's. I have spent most of a 30 career working with all of our law enforcement agencies in the county, and Whittier is indeed top rate. God bless our Thin Blue Line of Whittier...

Thanks for posting this story. I never heard the full story just that Rocky was gunned down by two Whittier detectives.

Wow...I really got into this. Everyone spoke so candidly that I could really feel each person's experience. Far from reality I sat here rooting for a different outcome. Thank you for sharing. To all the good men and women concerned,I salute you !

Can you do some research and a video from when Rose Hills moved it's cemetery from down by the 5900 block of Adele Ave all the way to Broadway park in the 60's to it's current location and they left the bodies of some people but only moved gravestones, there was a article in the Whittier daily news in 2000 when they found out about it. I grew up in the 5900 block of Adele from 1987 to 2002 and that whole neighborhood was haunted as Hell I have crazy stories from that dark home and still know some people that live in that neighborhood that see the same and hear the same paranormal activity till today.

As a child, I had a beloved "second family", the Campbells. Johnny Campbell was a Whittier PD Officer until his death from cancer in 1976. Later, I went to school with Rocky Burch and his brother Rusty. I lived on the corner of Comstock Ave and La Questa, one block from the Harley shop their dad owned and I used to visit it often to chat with the boys when they were there. I remember well the motorcycle culture in Uptown Whittier in the 70's. I spent time in the Scavenger's clubhouse, although I was never a member of their gang. As a teenager, I was enthralled by the motorcycle lifestyle and was "accepted" by the many gang members who lived in my neighborhood, although I was never initiated into any gang. PJ's was a frequent hangout to drink and shoot pool. It was a rough spot for sure. But I was naive and had no idea of the terrible things being done, the criminal element of the bikers. I thought that was for Hell's Angels only. By the time this incident took place, I had thankfully turned my life around and was living in Long Beach. But I remember hearing about it from my Mom who still lived in Whittier. Then high school friends started calling, "Did you hear about Rocky?", etc. I was heartbroken that the person I knew from school, the guy who was kind of like a big brother, would be involved in such a horrific crime. My heart broke for Officer Mike Lane and his family. All these years later, I'm still haunted by it. I didn't know Officer Lane personally, but I feel so connected to the incident in so many ways. Our men in Blue deserve so much respect, and as events unfold across the country to Defund the Police, I'm angered. Be careful what you wish for.

Did anyone know Mike personally? He was my father's uncle, personal hero, and my brother is named after him. I would love to hear some more stories from anyone who knew him. I never had a face to the name until now and am so grateful for this chance to learn more about the big part Mike played in my family before I was born.

Which Mike? Two of them are told of in this historical documentary. My grandfather was Dave Butler Mike Lanes friend.

When do people stop glorifying gangs and crooks? They bring nothing but pain.
