I also had stiff focus and stuck aperture blades. I couldn't get to the blades as the small screws were stuck, but the aperture ended up working still when I disassembled the lens. I lubricated focus rings with Helimax-XP Helicoid Grease (NLGI #1) and it works perfectly. Thanks for the video! Couldn't do without it!

So that tape is the only thing that is holding the bottom barrel? I only need to clean and relube the helicoid and it seems very possible without disassembling the whole thing.

Hi Kenneth, after removing the CRC keys and the front housing, there are two brass spacing rings that go to both side of the housing. One is thicker and one is thinner. I forgot to make note which one was on what side. Do you remember? If you do, can you please tell? Thanks!

    Hi Mike,
Any chance you have the focus dampening screw available?

Any ideas on how to remove a broken focus locking screw?
BTW, why use a movie clapboard without sound? Just saying.

    Hello Ken.
This might be a tall request, but is there any way you can re-record this disassembly in your modern style instead of a silent time-lapse?
I mainly ask because I have a 105mm f2.8 that’s in pristine condition, other than the fact that the focus is really stiff. I inquired with Nikon about fixing it, and even though it’s still on their repair list, the estimate for fixing the stiff focus problem is $265 before they even look at the lens.
So needless to say I’ll be doing the rebuild myself. I have the tools, I just want to make sure I keep everything aligned in this very complex lens, and it’s tough in a few spots in these two videos to determine what parts you are aligning and for what reason.
I appreciate all the work you put into this channel, and as a vintage lens collector/user I find myself just watching your videos even if I don’t have the particular lens you’re working on. There’s something about vintage glass that’s special, and it feels more like an instrument than a mechanism.
    Thanks!

If the focus ring is sticky, is it only just the first part of the disassembly? Thank you

Hi, at 6:30 may i know what phillips screwdriver size you used to open the aperture ring? I use a hardened screwdriver from ebay and i nearly stripped off the screw. I understand that these screws are JIS standard and the phillips head does not fit it very well. How do i ensure that i do not strip off the screws? thank you

+anthony tan You could file the very sharp pointed tip off a little so ti fit perfect in the screw head. It's the same as a JIS screw driver.

Hi Anthony Tan and others, the PH00 I use at 6:30 is a modified PH00, that I just file the sharp tip so it work's just like a normal JIS00 (Japan Industry Standard) screwdriver, and in that way fit perfect in the screw.
    Cheers
    Kenneth

Hello Mikeno62. I've watched and learned so much from your videos! I have this lens. It was almost impossible to turn the focus ring from when I purchased it as a parts only lens on ebay. After disassembly I am proud to say it turns like it is supposed to!
I need to disassemble again, because I've done something incorrectly. It won't focus out to infinity now. The furthest it will go is to about 30m. When I turn the barrel out that for, it lines up with the infinity mark. Actually goes slightly past it.
How do I adjust the infinity focus?

Is there a way to fix that broken pin. Because mine is broken.

+Lavikka Photography You could try using super glue for METAL, some times it works very good.

    I love your videos especially your hand jesters!! Makes me laugh.. (0;}
Do you have any videos showing how to remove the baffle from a 105 2.5 Ais.
I have an old beater that I want to install a Dandelion chip but need to remove the baffle to cut it.
I would like to know the break down before I start the process.

Thank's Pete, It's a shame I do not have this lens anymore.....
If you take a look at 5:54 - 6:01 where I take off the bajonet with the 3 3 screws, use a JIS screw driver....!
AND remember.....! There are small 3 screws around the lens hole of the bajonet itself....., 2 small set screws and 1 with a longer screw head..., the 1 screw is the stop screw where the lens is locked correct in the camera mount.
Also..., take care of the spring for aperture in the bajonet.
      Hope it makes sense
      Cheers
      Kenneth

I may be picking up a Ai 135mm f2.8 for under $100.00 nice cosmetic and glass but with oily blades and from what I was told only go's from 2.8 and stops at f8!
Should I walk away from this one?
To repair I have not seen anything on the web for disassembly of this lens.
