I keep wondering if deGarmo saw where it was all going even that far back and took the first convenient exit ramp to pursue a different career.
I saw them live on the "Hear In The Now Frontier" tour, and during a guitar break in "Sign of The Times", the rest of the band lost its place and stopped playing, except deGarmo. You could tell he was pissed off and played that break a few times as if to say "it's just this...". I saw them again on a tour with Dream Theater and Fates Warning. They were the weakest band of the show.
It was a dramatic change from the form they were in when I saw them on their Building Empires and Promised Land tours.

@@optimisticoutreach1236 not sure that’s fair, but i agree, once DeGarmo left, there was a huge hole in their writing
Rockenfield is an amazing drummer. His time keeping is nothing less that stellar. I recently uploaded a cover of I Don’t Believe in Love on my YT channel. When tracking it, the bpm, 118, was held incredibly well by Rockenfiled, with only one spot, after the dual solo, where it varies for a measure, then he brings it right back. When doing my new covers series, I’ve had to deal with a lot of players whose time keeping varies throughout the song. Scott’s is impeccable. Bands suffer when money is tight, and i think QR’s days are numbered. They know it, so they are making sure they milk the cash cow dry. Without a reunion, they are stuck playing small festivals and county fairgrounds. That’s a serious fall from grace.

The band says he went on paternity leave that was meant to be around 6 months and stayed there longer without proper notice and consent from them so they kept using another drummer who's now part of the band taking his place... and he says it was the band who actually let him out of everything from payments to meetings to recordings for the new album etc. So much drama for such a great band that once had perfect musical chemistry and good friendship between them all. I had (sort of) accepted that we'd probably never see Scott back in the band, but this has the potential of becoming really ugly and far, far from a worthy end to the legendary drummer's time with Queensryche. Todd said in inteviews that "the door was always open for Scott to return if he wanted to", but now Scott says he was available and willing to play on The Verdict but was never included... Now, in Todd's defense (kind of), I can't really understand why there should be any bad blood between Scott, Michael and Eddie, having been partners in crime for 35 years or so. What reason would they have to suddenly keep Scott (an old friend) out of the loop and deny him income he rightfully deserves? You mention money, and we all know money can make the most solid of friendships collapse, but I still think it feels like a bit of a stretch here. Not that I know, of course... Regarding the Todd-era Queensryche, I definitely think he helped the band back on track after (in my opinion) 15 disastrous years filled with nothing but HUGE disappointments and rampant Geoff ego. In fact, think "Take cover" remains the most listenable album between HITNF and the selt titled with Todd, which is saying something about the state of the band back then. Yes Todd can definitely sing and one of the reasons he was hired was obviously that he can pull off Geoff's vocals on the early material, which makes him a Tate clone in this context
I don't think there would even be a Queensryche today (at least not an enjoyable Queensryche) if Todd hadn't replaced Geoff, but that's another story. Guess I'm trying to say that I think Todd deserves a fair bit of credit for breathing new life back into the dying band, but if there is some foul play going on where Scott is being deliberately pushed away, then I want none of it.
