I think the airport service guy was fair as you asked him to go to more places than he initially anticipated, naturally he wanted extra money for that additional drive to more hotels, and to the police station etc. The drunk lady was just trying to make some money by offering her room to help you. Obviously, she thought you will take her room and pay her money for it which is bit naive. People are friendly, trustworthy and welcoming at small places as they all know each other. Everything is going to be expensive at small isolated places as they have to import everything and they don't get a lot of transactions as there are very few people. Quality of service is also going to be poor as they don't get quantity, so effective quick service was not demanded from them. It's like a small village really. Big cities like Mumbai ,Tokyo, Shanghai, New York city, London does not operate on same rules as they operate on huge volume or quantity or a lot of transactions which requires them to be quick and efficient to serve many customers.
Finally! This guy has a reputation for doing stupid things and then sensationalising it, like sleeping in a car, complaining that a hotel doesn't have wifi like a pick a damn struggle dude!

to be fair you asked him to drop you off at the hotel which he did but you did not want to stay there thus asked him to drive around further looking for cheaper place so the initial agreement of taking you to the hotel for the agreed price should be renegotiated as he has driven you around pretty much the entire island like you said, he did not sign up for that, you should have paid him extra for going out of his way to take you to a hotel it is not his fault that you opted not to pay the 188 per night fee for the hotel you should have paid him then the agreed amount and let him go on his way

As frequent traveller to the South Pacific (on work), I too was seen as coming from Fiji. In various countries in the Caribbean, man on the street would take me from Guyana or Trinidad. The taxi man was actually helping you. He gave you a decent price and charged you a little extra because he took you to several different locations and you all overexaggerated it like he was scamming you. The only thing he did wrong was not informing you of an extra charge which is not a scam, but a mistake; two completely different things. That woman is a known town drunk who has never worked for the justice department and just hangs around the police station because they're open at night. You should be more aware of your surroundings because you could've gotten robbed at anytime in that hut; the drug and alcohol paraphernalia should've been a sign that you are not in a safe place.

As frequent traveller to the South Pacific (on work), I too was seen as coming from Fiji. In various countries in the Caribbean, man on the street would take me from Guyana or Trinidad. South Pacific and the Caribbean are at different ends of the world. Travelling and exploration of different cultures is most amazing.

The taxi man was actually helping you. He gave you a decent price and charged you a little extra because he took you to several different locations and you all overexaggerated it like he was scamming you. The only thing he did wrong was not informing you of an extra charge which is not a scam, but a mistake; two completely different things.
That woman is a known town drunk who has never worked for the justice department and just hangs around the police station because they're open at night. You should be more aware of your surroundings because you could've gotten robbed at anytime in that hut; the drug and alcohol paraphernalia should've been a sign that you are not in a safe place.
