i was 10. My parents grocery shopped at Fiesta and at a corner they had 2 arcade machines. Metal slug and Marvel vs Capcom 2. Being the lil gamer i was i had an hour to play this every weekend. always made it to mission 4. Now im 23, this is nostalgic to me.
Haha yeah for real, my Fiesta Market had SNK arcade cabinet, Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 arcade cabinet, and Point Blank , Cruisin' World. Those were the days .
Hi friend they released an anthology collection. it goes up too metal slug 1 through 6 and has metal slug x with is I believe a secondary version of metalslug 2 and they even have new games in the series after metal slug 6 I believe the newest game is metal slug tactics (still in development )
The ended with one of Morden's soldiers sending a paper airplane into outer space. Metal Slug 2 later it is revealed that Morden has formed an alliance with aliens.
This game is so much fun to play. I played all the Metal Slug games in the series. My personal favorite is Metal Slug 3, the zombie level is the best level yet.
First time I ever saw Metal Slug was not at an arcade, but an arcade machine at a Wal-Mart. I laid my eyes upon the Neo Geo cabinet, saw this, said what the hell it looks fun. Popped in my quarter and proceeded to have a grand old time. I eventually got home ports of the game on Saturn and PS2 (Anthology), as well as X on PS1. I would not see another MS machine till many years later when at a casino waiting to see Cheech and Chong live, I walked into it's arcade. Inside was a dedicated SNK cab with Metal Slug 2 in it. No autofire like the home ports, so my right hand was hurting fiercely from pounding the fire button, but it was pain all in good fun, so it didn't bother me that my hand hurt like a bitch after. A year or two ago, went to a local Play N Trade, and what did my eyes see, a Metal Slug X PCB in a Japanese Sega Astro City Cabinet. I did the civil thing when I saw it, I played it knowing I had a very nice PS2 version of it back home. When I did go home that day, that arcade machine made me pull out of my copy of Anthology, and have fun with Metal Slug X. That MSX PCB was eventually replaced with yet another favorite, Vampire Savior. Shame though when I went, the buttons were busted on the cab, and the guys at PnT had no idea how to fix it, so they want to replace it with a Killer Instinct cab, blah unless Vampire Savior is kept in it (they also have a Third Strike in a candy cab, and had a 4 player Turtles in Time cabinet that they took out). I could live without Killer Instinct as to me it hasn't held up with time, but Vampire Savior, like Metal Slug, is timeless.
A Metal Slug would be so OP if it was real. Light armor that can shrug off direct hits from rockets, high speed tracks, full 360 degree cannons and it can jump/crouch. Damn.
Honestly I think this is the best Metal Slug game. Main reason is because it wasn't too ridiculous and was completely realistic. The others are still great but this is the best.

Metal slug is the military and throwback games in this history of SNK. The Ikari team was ralf and clark had an appearance on metal slug 6. But this was king of fighters 25 years making.
Ha! When I was little I lived by a place that had a Metal Slug Arcade machine. I never played it because I was horrified by the over the top violence (mostly the part where you light parachuters on fire) but now this game actually looks really fun.
And to think, this game ran on a system made in 1990, back when Nintendo and Sega were making games that couldn't even come close to the original arcade versions.
16:28 After all these years I'm surprised no one else has noticed or pointed out the fact that on the bottom left of the second building there is clearly a woman bent over a table or something in her underwear. Then when the place is shot up some more the underwear just drops. I saw it a year or two ago while playing.
I never noticed that! As far as the ESRB goes, they had already been functional for two years at the time this game came out (1996). I don't think they ever gave ratings to arcade games, though.
Why the hell hasn't there been a Metal Slug team in a King of Fighters game yet? I get that this came out a few years after '94, but '99 would have been the perfect opportunity to add Marco, Tarma, Fio and Eri into the game. Oh well, maybe they'll show up in KoF 15.
just for funny, first time i play ms is in a old arcade machine, well at that time my english is very bad and the machine sound system dont help much, soo heavy machine gun : shana kitinga , shotgun: shakan, flameshoot: slingshoot, rocket launcher rocket rogers.
grzybiarz I know, but I practically lived at the arcade back then. Somehow I still missed it, though. A real shame, too. Looks like it would've been a blast.
Metal Slug may easily be one of the most violent video games ever made, and it may also be one of the best video games ever made.

This game featured some of most stunning sprite based graphics of all time.
The ended with one of Morden's soldiers sending a paper airplane into outer space. Metal Slug 2 later it is revealed that Morden has formed an alliance with aliens.
Charlie Nguyen Ah, got it.
actually, no. at that time metal slug 1 created Nazca corporation wasn't planning to release metal slug sequel.
If this game is ever considered for a live action movie it should be handled with great care and should be a war action comedy
+Deebo Molina Like a mix between Commando and Tropic Thunder.
+Santiago Vásquez Gómez Or Missing In Action and Trojan War.
Imagine it had the violence and gore from Rambo IV and V. That would be badass
I rather prefer it be animated
love how they say "peace forever" at the end but went and created a dozen of sequels and spin-offs 😄
Man, it's so satisfying watching someone BLAST through a game of Metal Slug.
This game is so much fun to play. I played all the Metal Slug games in the series. My personal favorite is Metal Slug 3, the zombie level is the best level yet.
+StygianTraveler141 you're right. 5 had the big beast man thing with the skull on its chest.
Metal Slug > Call of Duty
yes
+Dolan Duk I would like to see NEW Metal Slug with gameplay and realistic graphic like Call of Duty . That's would be interesting ^_^
Romus011 I don't.
Okay ^_^
+Romus011 Yeah I have to agree, it wouldn't feel like a Metal Slug game without it's cartoony feel.
One of my all time favorites!
1:15 Mission 1 Start
3:52 Mission 2 Start
7:50 Mission 3 Start
12:12 Mission 4 Start
16:12 Mission 5 Start
21:17 Final Mission Start
27:46 Mission All Over
Metal Slug shatters my expectations with fantastic graphics and excellent gameplay

aww man, I remember play n trade! sadly the one near me went out of business
Arjay X
The one is thriving well, haven't given them much of my money lately though as they've had nothing I wanted.
best ending scene out of all the metal slug games
A Metal Slug would be so OP if it was real. Light armor that can shrug off direct hits from rockets, high speed tracks, full 360 degree cannons and it can jump/crouch. Damn.
In the game's instruction manual, it's stated that Metal Slugs were designed to be the most powerful tanks in the world. I guess this proves it!
Honestly I think this is the best Metal Slug game. Main reason is because it wasn't too ridiculous and was completely realistic. The others are still great but this is the best.

Loved this game. My favorite Neo-Geo series and one of my favorite arcade hits.
One of the most commonly found on arcade game centers around the world, fancy graphics is gonna be have fun.
I like the ending. It just tell that: don't forget the war is full of death and sad.
There's actually a good ending unlocked by beating the final boss with two players
Love the enemies' reactions in this series...

I was playing this game today at a local arcade place. It was a very addicting game.
Possibly the greatest military arcade game ever made
No pizzeria is complete without an arcade cabinet. Preferably this one.
Should have just called this game "Murica!"
Cyber Jackalope should've just called this game "Terrifying 9/11"
Why do they name this Metal Slug?
Well, they have the little tanks that you can use at 2:12 which are called "Metal Slug"s, so I guess that's why they named it that?
I've seen the term "slug" used to mean bullet.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun_slug
You mean this?
And to think, this game ran on a system made in 1990, back when Nintendo and Sega were making games that couldn't even come close to the original arcade versions.
the metal slug series is just awesome!
If I ever have a kid and he asks how WW2 was won ill show him this video.
good idea
505blaineo MURICA
As Long as SNK is willing we'll all expect a sequel anytime.
Awesome. All that for 25¢ in 1996. I miss you arcades!
Awesome run play dude !!! I love the Metal Slug series :)
Key Killer 74 me too.
I've remembered seeing this at a Pizza Hut in Cortez, Colorado. Me and my brother would go and play it after we eat some pizza from Pizza Hut.
This game was at a hotel when I was about 5 years old.. My parents didn’t see me for the rest of the vacation..
it's never about the difficulty when it's about longplays. it's about the player(s) beating the game whether it be fully completed or not.
At 17:03, That yellow Fiat car looked like Luigi from disney pixar Cars :)
I used to play this game so fucking much as a kid
Recuerdos legendarios de las maquinitas 😎

Miniclip's Commando 2 is based off of this series! The "Mission Complete" sound is also used in the flash game Sky Chopper.

Neo-Geo Battle Colosseum, check it :)
Earthwind Presas But it has only Marco, if i remember correctly.
Earthwind Presas
But that only had one character and it's not in the main KoF series.
Ahhhhh two actually by counting Mars people lol But still there nonetheless :P Hey, we have Ikari Warriors at least such as Leona, Ralf, and Clark :P
That's right :)
This game is so much fun to watch
Mr39foor it's even more fun to play.

Metal slug is THE best retro game out there, also 1943 and contra
amazing looking game -- stunning. I would love if there was an updated Neo geo with updated games etc
Que genial, Marco se cargó a todo un ejercito de soldados SOLITO.
awesome playthrough. I might play this in a moment on my mame emulator
The last boss is just a helicopter? Man, Metal Slug had some humble origins.

3 words: use your bombs
It saves alot of time.
yeah, his gameplay ain't the best, but he didn't die, not even once. And in the end he shat out enough bombs to cover Morden in death.
cuphead before cuphead... even the hand drawn animation is here!
Anyone else think that the various cries of pain the enemy soldiers give are their own soundtrack?
This is SNK's answer to Capcom's Megaman? That's not bad. :)
I Love This Metal Slug =D

-Metal Slug 5
-Metal Slug 2
