Wow, I'm astonished at how beautiful it looks on TH-cam here, despite having shopped at this mall for 40+ years. This makes me want to appreciate these places more, because this sort of video could've also been done at all the malls we've lost in the past few decades. Thanks so much for filming it, for future generations to see, while it's still around.
We had so many malls in KC from the 80s through early 2000s. I spent most of my life in them. Now you just hear so.much bad about the few we have left. It was hard watching Indian Springs be torn down. The great mall too. It was like watching my youth be turned to rubble :(
Omg!!! I appreciate you doing mall walking tours! Now your channel is a mix of two of my most favorite things in the world: roads and malls!!! These mall vlogs are extra special because there's nowhere else on the internet you can see this type of stuff besides TH-cam. Otherwise, you'll never get a good feel of what a mall is like on the inside unless you visit in person. At least with roads, we have Google Street View.
Shout out to you mike fine content I appreciate your videos they are informative on the highways please keep them videos coming thanks safe travels bless❤
I grew up in this mall during the 70's and 80's! Back in the 80's us teens use to dress up and hang out there. Me and my friends and cousins hung out there every weekend. I put on a button-up shirt, a pair of Z Cavaricci jeans and a little too much Drakkar cologne and I was good to go. Little tight-knit groups of teen boys and girls all over this mall every weekend. It was quite the social scene for all ages. And safe. In the 90's, some of the malls started to get dangerous (one of the Metcalf's and Blue Ridge Mall specifically). However, Oak Park Mall seemed to be safely tucked away in suburbia. You know, back in the late 80's, there was actually a recording studio At Oak Park Mall where shoppers could pay to have a professional studio recording (cassette) of themselves singing. It was a little awkward as the studio window was visible to passing mall shoppers to watch you recording. It was misplaced and wasn't around too long but it was cool. Also, it's funny how no one ever talks about one of the biggest missing stores from this and other malls in the area...the piano and organ stores like Jenkins. Almost all of the malls had an organ or piano store where you could shop for the families next piano or organ. Sadly, electronic keyboards and online shopping put them out of being mall-based. My son got his first job at 16 years old at Oak Park Mall at Abercrombie & Fitch as a model. What a strange full circle kind of moment. I still think it's a great mall. But it will sadly never be what it was when I was a kid.
In the 80s KC metro area had Oak Park, Metcalf South, Mission, Indian Springs, Metro North, Antioch, Independence, Ward Parkway, and Blueridge malls. Oak Park is really the only decent true indoor mall left. Which ones did I miss?
Great Mall of the Great Plains- it's gone. It was sad seeing that one get torn down. My Friends and I used to go just walk around back in the 90s-2000s in Oak Park and the Great Mall. Sad seeing them all fail.
@@Briisthename0Bannister Mall also had stairs on both the north and south ends like that too. Indian Springs had stairs in the middle too if I recall correctly.
I pick up Doordash orders from the food court often and im surpirised the mall is still full of shops as the parking lot feels like its never full anymore.

I remember the model train in the food court at Blue Ridge Mall.
It was sad to see that and Bannister Mall being torn down.

LOL, I just did a cabling job inside that mall today. We do plenty of those out here.

@@AlexoutwestYea Bannister mall was the mall back in the 80’s-90’s (even though I wasn’t alive to see it, Cerner took it over now smh)
@@AlexoutwestAh yes, the Landing mall. Got photos of me as a boy playing on those painted concrete animals in the play area. Simpler times.
I was thinking of Zona Rosa, but that’s an outdoor shopping center (like the Legends)
5:05 I do not like golf, but that is the best store in the whole place, it has beer and places to sit.
I have spent a lot of money in this mall i also worked at norsdtroms i love this mall I'm older now can't walk it like i use to 🌹🌹🌹
Wait, what did she say she wanted to show you at 8:52? Her own vlog?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤pleaz show us some mall like this bro
Not bad bro
I got 4 words for you and they are
How Bout Those Chiefs
Nice video, what camera did you use?
Was this mall built on uneven land? Because I notice stairs along the walkway on both floors.
I think it is. Some of the other entrances to the mall look like they're on different levels than the one I went through.
Yes , the Independence Mall is also built like this too , always kinda tripped me out lol
Never occurred to me but you're right. I must've walked those stairs hundreds of times over the past few decades. 😄

Whenever you’re in DE again could you do the Christiana mall
