Wow, I'm astonished at how beautiful it looks on TH-cam here, despite having shopped at this mall for 40+ years. This makes me want to appreciate these places more, because this sort of video could've also been done at all the malls we've lost in the past few decades. Thanks so much for filming it, for future generations to see, while it's still around.

We had so many malls in KC from the 80s through early 2000s. I spent most of my life in them. Now you just hear so.much bad about the few we have left. It was hard watching Indian Springs be torn down. The great mall too. It was like watching my youth be turned to rubble :(

I remember the model train in the food court at Blue Ridge Mall.
It was sad to see that and Bannister Mall being torn down.

Omg!!! I appreciate you doing mall walking tours! Now your channel is a mix of two of my most favorite things in the world: roads and malls!!! These mall vlogs are extra special because there's nowhere else on the internet you can see this type of stuff besides TH-cam. Otherwise, you'll never get a good feel of what a mall is like on the inside unless you visit in person. At least with roads, we have Google Street View.

I grew up in this mall during the 70's and 80's!
Back in the 80's us teens use to dress up and hang out there. Me and my friends and cousins hung out there every weekend. I put on a button-up shirt, a pair of Z Cavaricci jeans and a little too much Drakkar cologne and I was good to go. Little tight-knit groups of teen boys and girls all over this mall every weekend. It was quite the social scene for all ages. And safe. In the 90's, some of the malls started to get dangerous (one of the Metcalf's and Blue Ridge Mall specifically). However, Oak Park Mall seemed to be safely tucked away in suburbia.
You know, back in the late 80's, there was actually a recording studio At Oak Park Mall where shoppers could pay to have a professional studio recording (cassette) of themselves singing. It was a little awkward as the studio window was visible to passing mall shoppers to watch you recording. It was misplaced and wasn't around too long but it was cool.
Also, it's funny how no one ever talks about one of the biggest missing stores from this and other malls in the area...the piano and organ stores like Jenkins. Almost all of the malls had an organ or piano store where you could shop for the families next piano or organ. Sadly, electronic keyboards and online shopping put them out of being mall-based.
My son got his first job at 16 years old at Oak Park Mall at Abercrombie & Fitch as a model. What a strange full circle kind of moment. I still think it's a great mall. But it will sadly never be what it was when I was a kid.

In the 80s KC metro area had Oak Park, Metcalf South, Mission, Indian Springs, Metro North, Antioch, Independence, Ward Parkway, and Blueridge malls. Oak Park is really the only decent true indoor mall left. Which ones did I miss?

Great Mall of the Great Plains- it's gone. It was sad seeing that one get torn down. My Friends and I used to go just walk around back in the 90s-2000s in Oak Park and the Great Mall. Sad seeing them all fail.

Was this mall built on uneven land? Because I notice stairs along the walkway on both floors.
