Hi! Thankyou :D. I love that people find the day to day here interesting, it makes it a little less boring for me too, makes me look at things with a different viewpoint :D
Sometimes I forget to verbalise some of the every day stuff! I definitely find it easier to film like this, just production line and voiceover later, but sometimes I worry that it is repetitive, but everyone seems to like watching!
@@OurSmallFootprint Thank you for letting me see how you do things, youre doing great videos. I really cant imagine how you cope, you must be worn out. You are a machine. Keep going, dont forget to rest up from time to time.
You're welcome! As I was saying to someone else, it kind of feels like it makes the tasks feel less mundane, knowing I'm sharing them! :D So thank-you for watching! :D
I will have to make some mustards up soon and share them! This one was about 1 part seeds to 2 parts vinegar, a drizzle of honey, some salt, and just whizzed up, if it thickens too much add a little more vinegar, as the seeds break down they thicken the liquid up, so if it looks too watery, keep on blending! My rub mix I make in parts (I'm a little slap dash though!) but it is approximately 4 pts Brwn Sugar 2 parts Coarse salt 1 part cracked pepper 1 part smoked paprika 1 Part Garlic Powder 1 part Onion Powder 0.5 part ground mustard. I regularly make it in cup sizings, because I use it a lot, but you could use tablespoons as your 'parts' :D
It's so cheap, the pulled pork from a boston cut is divine, but its almost double the price per kg, and no rind/excess fat to use accordingly either. Slather it in a bit of bbq sauce and you can barely tell the difference heh! :D
Lol, I unlisted the bad one but I’d imagine people who have notifications on are still being notified it’s there! First time I’ve made the error! I’ll know next time!
What did you make with the Tortilla's? Maybe that is for tomorrow. I don't remember if I ever saw you make mustard. That sounds interesting. I love that you use render fat for cooking. I do that with Bacon too. I always see comments about how calming your voice is, I agree. I just think you are joyful. Focusing on Caring for your Family just brings joy to your viewers. I watched a movie about Fr Patrick Peyton. A College Student asked him, Father, People are busy, they don't have time to pray. His response, Can I ask you how do you spend your time? Do you make time to pray. Nyssa, how you make time for your Family is like Prayer. I am so happy to see Women, loving to care for their Family. Time with Family is so essential. You are an incredible Wife and Mother. I love what you are doing here. I do not have Children, I am barren. But My Mother after 80 years died one year after my Father, she said, I believe I did all God needed me to do. I Married your Dad, had 14 Children, cared for him at Home , until he went to Heaven. The 14 of us took care of Mom at home in shifts until she was called to Heaven. Nyssa, your goodness will shower you with graces. You make it look so easy. But love will drive you. Thank you, for taking us along, showing us to cook and focus on Family
Thankyou very much for your kind words! All I ever really wanted to do was to have a family, I have had to do a lot of other stuff along the way, but this is where we aimed to get and I'm luck ythat we managed to get her as young as I and the kids are! I think I missed filming what we ate with the tortillas lol, I think we just had ham and salad on them while I was getting everything else done! Sometimes the kids hover so much I just have to get them fed and I realise afterwards that I didn't show what they were eating! It is why sometimes Darryl and my dinner is shown but not theirs, they eat mostly the same as what we do, but I just get it made and on the table in front of them and then take some time with ours! There are so many ways to make mustards, but even just fermenting/soaking the mustard seeds in the acv for a period of time makes the mustard more mellow and less astringent!
I kind of like that I have enough kids that when I bake something I get one or two and then when I go back, there's none left, its a little bit of enforced portion control! :D
I love my smoker, I got a dual fuel one, so I love that I can use gas or wood depending on what I'm doing with it! It has low gas usage too which is great!
These are some of the best off grid cooking shows!!! I watch a lot to be able to say this. You should have tons of views. Honestly I think if you changed your titles a little you may get a lot more views. Large family off grid other really catchy phrases. If you put the vlog number last ppl will find videos more in search fields maybe. None of this is negative just a fan who wants to see your channel get the views it deserves and was just giving it some thought on here
@@OurSmallFootprint you post often so I know in time things will match up effort to pay off. Like with anything worth having hardwork pays off:) I can tell you enjoy taking care of your family, and you enjoy the cooking. That is what keeps me watching. You would never guess you were I'll or had any health issues. I hope the slower lifestyle is really helping, I know home cooked meals are def more nutrient filled.
@@leahf.2919 Yes, having lots of content is apparently key, but whilst I would love to be making decent money by sharing, I also have really enjoyed the community aspect :D
Oh the pork, potatoes&scratching look delicious. The biscuits with coconut I'm gonna try.Im alone now but wen the family vote over I'm doing the pork yum.Do u use a reg mustard or spicy.I might do a we bit of both mix, would that work?Ty for sharing your great tips&treats.❤🇨🇦🍽
I use either! Dijon is a nice mellow flavour, but whole grain mustard has that heat, they all work well and I add a little sugar in my dry rub so that helps to make the flavour more rounded! Once all the meat is pulled and that rub is blended through it all its not overwhelming it just adds great flavour! :)
Hey Lady Nyssa, what is golden syrup? We have pancake syrup, maple syrup and light and dark corn syrup...I've never heard the nickname...hope y'all had a good weekend. 😊
I imagine it is an Australian thing, being that it is in Australian biscuits! You can make your own, using sugar and water and an acid, I'm not entirely sure why it tastes so different, but some people use treacle instead, so that must be a similar flavour!
Hey :) Molasses is really dark, its got a much deeper flavour, definitely less sweet, its one of the byproducts when they make sugar, brown sugar and raw sugar still have some molasses content in them which is why they aren't 'white' :)
We tend to eat from the tray for a couple of days then vacuum seal it up and freeze it post that, I do can the pork in jars and you end up with pulled pork when you open it, but no smoke flavour! This is a bit of a treat heh. I might do pizza tomorrow night to have some on!
When I see your videos pop up on my feed I stop what I' m doing and watch Thank you for teaching us.
Thankyou!

I love molasses cookies, so it made sense to me hehe, and they do taste very similar to Anzacs, though maybe not if you had them side by side lol!
That pork looks amazing!!
It's so nice to be able to use such a cheap cut in a myriad of ways :)
Anzac biscuits are so good!
They are, they're definitely a fave around here!
I'm not sure I would be able to keep my hands away from those cookies long enough to let them cool either..... They sound and look delicious!

It’s a syrup from sugar cane, though apparently it can also be made from sugar beets. It’s a paler version of treacle, essentially.
Hello Nyssa smoked pork looks awesome, is molasses like maple syrup but not as sugary?
