I'm a single Mum homeschooling my kiddos in rural northern NSW, moved here 4 years ago from the Central Coast NSW. For similar reasons amongst post separation. It's a shock to the mind, body and soul going from having everything to living completely different just to get by. I'm grateful to see the realistic side to living off grid in Australia from nothing. I often have your videos from the very beginning playing in the background as I do mum life throughout my day. So much gratitude 🙏🏼
There's always food hehe, nobody would starve here if we didn't get to the shops on time, but I do get a bit tired of thinking of what to make towards the end of the period heh.
You are very courageous and wonderfull. The move to off grid living with small children is a blessing for your family. Such cooking! Such hard work! Aussie mum of the year. I am 75 and live off grid. A trip to the docs us 5 hour bus ride. Bless you.Stay strong and healthy. All my love.
I pray your garden is bountiful and easy for you to maintain. You are so organized, it amazes me all you do, I pray for you to have a safe trip and stay healthy
Yes, there's always food in my house it just may not be what you really want or easy to fix. But we won't go hungry. Looking forward to a new shop and the next meal preps. Safe trip😊
Use pearl barley if you prefer in your Bolognese. Gee, why do people have to be critical about the lentils. Loved all the food you made. The zucchini meals looked awesome, yum to the granola and yogurt. Oh delicious. Thanks for another good video. Good luck with the shopping trip.
cannot beat a sausage roll, we have them as a snack, sausage roll ,chips and beans, or sausage roll ,mash potatoes, peas and gravy, they are just so good lol xx
I hope your shopping trip goes smoothly!! It’s still in the 90’s here in Arizona but I’m ready for oatmeal weather and sick of yogurt! 😂 I’m excited about seeing you plant your garden!! Have a great day!
The kids still eat porridge/oatmeal even in summer but it’s not their ‘go to’ and sometimes it’s a good thing that things are seasonal because then they don’t get bored heh. I did a garden update video but I just have to finish editing it because it has a sponsored clip in there with the new pool vacuum! Such a pain doing sponsored videos but I’m super grateful to have them offered to me!
The lentils may have more protein but it does no good if the children don't like and don't want to eat it. Let's be real I'm sure your children are very active and any carbs they eat I'm sure they run right off😂😂. So Nissa you are doing great you keep up the good work!!❤
Hehe, yes, I don't think the bit of extra carb in the barley is an issue with my little monsters :D. They ate it, but there was complaints lol... and keeping them happy is a priority to a degree hehe :D
We finally got the packaging and started getting everything off! I'm still waiting on a couple of things to do with the tote bags, which I'm emailing this morning getting snarky! so anyone with those in their order is delayed still, annoying!
I was pleasantly surprised to have another video from you waiting for me! I am so excited to watch your meals / recipes for ketovore. My husband and I have started (again) and I love your cooking so I can't wait to see what you come up with. Carnivore was pretty each - meat and repeat. I'm happy you and Darrell are doing this together! Safe travels on Wednesday. NO ER VISITS 😂❤
We are eating low carb and love cauliflower rice. Really easy to make yourself obviously depending on the availability of cauliflower ,also I cook a lot with almond flour
Doing some catch up with your videos, although I don’t need to do bulk cooking, I am always interested to see what you cook. Thanks for the info about yoghurt culture from Green Living.
We do love cabbage, it probably would be! Cabbage isn't super easy for me to get now for a few months, too warm, but over winter, that would be perfect!
I became extremely ill on the carnivore diet. It was ok for the first month or so then my health suffered. I would urge you to think again. Love the things you cook ❤
Everyone’s body is different so it’s worth trying. Some people get inflammation from carbs and some from meats, only way to test the theory is to try it out. I have been keto previously and whilst it didn’t improve anything for me, it didn’t cause any issues either and Darryl got lots of benefits from it.
@@sandrajune1172 I think I’ll prob lean towards more keto, D might go more carnivore, but I love veggies and I’m not really willing to give them up heh, but I will def trial dropping my carbs right down and assess, then adapt as needed. There’s not a lot wrong with my current diet, everything in moderation, my daily calories are fine etc, but we are eating a lot of filler carbs so it’s going to be a mindful thing too, but I’ll still feed the kids much the same way as always heh
@OurSmallFootprint thank you for your reply. I also was not being mindful of what I was eating. It's hard when you have children. I used to finish what they had left, which might sound gross to some people, but it was the not wasting food thing. I'm an older lady now, so I can be more selective. I have psoriatic arthritis and have noted that sugar and empty carbs really flare it up. 😊
@sandrajune1172 I too was thar "don't waste the food" mom. Carnivore definitely helps my joint inflammation and my mind clarity. I've proved it to myself. Now, to just stick with it.
@@OurSmallFootprint Or add the lentils, spices, broth, etc with meat and veg - boil just til they start to soften, then add the tomato? (My consideration is not creating another pot to clean. 🙂)
They're an Australian Made jar :D. Which makes them fairly easy to access second hand here, I have a large collection of them as well as other styles :)
Just a thought riced cauliflower cooked or peeled and shredded radish cooked are great alternatives to rice or potatos. Ive used radish peeled and cut up and boiled for a keto potato salad. Be safe on your shopping trip!
We love roasted radish, hopefully I can get some continuous cropping going! I remember buying cauliflower rice from Costco previously, I’ll have to see if they still have it :)
Yes we used to use cauliflower rice a lot, though with the carnivore thing that's not allowed, but I definitely don't think I'll be cutting out allthe good veggies especially to begin with and if it works, then all to the good!
I was going to suggest riced cauliflower as a substitute for rice or potatoes to have things served over. You can buy it frozen here. LOVED seeing the granola! I bought a grain free granola at Trader Joe's here and I love it! It is twice as many calories though which makes me very sad! It will have to be a very special treat! Good luck on your next shopping trip!
I strain my yogurt with a clean cloth in the strainer for about 2 hours. That will thicken it up all the way to Greek Yogurt if you want it that thick. We have ultra pasteurized milk here and I don't have to bring it up to a high temp then cool it down.
Yes the UHT milk I use is that :) which makes it easier. I could totally strain it and use the whey for smoothies etc but the kids are happy to eat it even if it’s a little thinner than I’d like so meh heh
These two trips are 8 weeks apart instead of the that I had been doing to fit in another before Xmas, so this one this week and one about the 18th of December and then I’ll assess what date post Xmas is needed. So yeah, I juggled the dates a bit to make sure we got another in before Xmas :)
Hey Nyssa, don't know if you've watched Carter on her utube Chanel grow and preserve but she and her husband are on the keto diet, I think for quite some time. They both look very healthy to me and she cooks up some delicious meals. They do eat Veggies though. Good luck. I hope it works for you. It's worth a try
Hi Nyssa. You mentioned you get your yogurt culture from Green Living Australia. I’m going to order some and I see they have a mild culture and a tangy culture. Which one do you use? Have you tried the tangy one? I like a tangy yogurt but I’m a little worried it might be too tangy. Also wondering if I buy the mild culture and leave it to ferment/set longer will that make it more tangy. I would love some of your wisdom on this topic. 💜
I prefer the tangy one, but the kids prefer the mild, I do let it ferment for 12 hours though, as you say, fermenting it for longer will eat more of the sugars and make it a bit more tart, so I do find that if I leave the mild one for the 12 hours its closer to how I like it than if its a say 8 hour ferment :D
Put the lentils thru your canner. Never have to remember to soak, already fully cooked. Probably nice when processed with your stock.😊 Can you make your own rice milk? Heard it's fairly easy, and that would save a little cash.
I always forget to do lentils! I need to do more black beans and baked beans too, and some chickpeas for hummus! Rice milk is a hard one, it kinda has to be made each day, and the texture is a bit strange. The kids don't mind almond milk that I make with certain things, like with granola etc, where the flavour is complimented, but aren't keen on it for things like weetbix etc, what they're used to I guess.
Carnivore diet did great for me. You’ll get nay-sayers but there’s so many people who have cured or greatly improved their health issues thru it. Hope it goes well!!
We’re trying a meat based keto style diet to see if it helps with inflammation etc. nothing definitive came back from my bloods I just have random symptoms. Darryl has put on a fair bit of weight in the last couple of years and his joints are giving him troubles, he’s on the list for shoulder surgery eventually etc, so it’s just something we’ll try and see if it helps :)
