ABSOLUTELY one of the all time greats, I will never forget him, he won me more than a few Bob, I will always remember how great he was even in defeat against the FANTASTIC BRIGADIER GERARD, even then I knew he was something very special, and so I was proved, Geoff Lewis, was his master riding technician, along with the great training from The entire BALDING FAMILY ❤️❤️❤️
Loved listening to Ian sharing his memories of Mill Reef great horse. My mare Crescendo is his great great grandaughter, Mill Reef, Shirley’s Heights, Temple Heights and Red Crescents her sire who did hurdles, jockey Richard Dunwoody, but then went on to become a four star eventer,. She is my love now aged 21’ sweet, beautiful, rides like a Ferrari , even in her older years she is awesome. Enjoying researching where she has come from fascinating. Thankyou .
I so much enjoy hearing ian balding speak of his (and mine) favourite horse, the emotion in his voice and disappointment mill reef's racing career was cut short. I was in no doubt he would of beaten the brigadier in the eclipse, such fond memories of a truly remarkable race horse
In my opinion the greatest mile and a half horse of the 20th century. At a mile and a quarter the race between him, Brigadier Gerard and Frankel would have been worth seeing. He was so tough and adaptable that I think he would have just edged it and given Frankel his only defeat.

That is so nice to hear a thoroughbred getting to 4* in the era of warmbloods.
In 1971 it was Mill Reef who ran through greatness.

Ian Balding is on record saying whilst he loved Mill Reef, his absolute darling was LOCHSONG.
It's good to see a trainer talking with so much passion about his horse and staff, I usually find some a little cold.
Like who

Get real
@@jimmymalone9139 bob is real, which is more than can be said for many racing fans today.
I cried my eyes out when I heard Mill Reef was seriously injured. I was 12 years old.
Cockupastorm:
Surprised you was interested in Raving at such a young age.
We owned one of his granddaughters, lots of stamina, difficult character.
IRISHMAN REILLY SAVED HIM TO BE A STALLION. GREAT HORSE
WOULDNT BEAT SIR IVOR OR NIJINSKY THOUGH
