I've watched so many videos on this technique and you broke it down so well that even as a beginner I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks for a great tutorial!
Best and most involved lesson on this I have seen. I can't mute anything, especially my guitar strings, but I'll definitely put this 2 practice. You're the best!! Hope you have a blessed day 🙏, Thank you sincerely!!
OK, just commented on your standby me video with the slap strum, how hard it was for me and I’m just not getting it. Then I came and watched this video and it helps a whole lot. I think I may be able to get it.
Thanks for this lesson, Kevin. I find it really challenging to get the 'chop' to finish and get the pick in position (at the bottom) and the rhythm back for the up strum. It probably means I need to focus on the first part of the lesson to get the initial chop correct.
Thank you so much. This is the first video that makes sense about making that sound. I’ve just discovered your channel about a month ago. And now it’s a regular viewing activity.
Have tried unsuccessfully to do this for sometime. Your careful breakdown of the steps and how to execute each I think will yield success! Thank you. Just found your channel and certainly like your clear explanations….and your song choice.
Great video... definitely gonna help me a lot. Btw in the beginning of the 8 noted part it felt like night moves by bob seger...really excited to play that with your technique!!
Some more great content-thanks! My issue is that I don’t use a pick, I can’t stand to for some reason. I really want to and need to learn the slap strum but find it impossible when not using a pick.
Different, not impossible. Think of it this way. You will be using your thumb to slap just the 6th and 5th bass stings. Kind of like playing slap bass. Use the inside part of your thumb. Think Early acoustic John Mayer.
Would you say you’re rolling your wrist so that the palm mute arrives momentarily before the pick rakes across the muted strings, all in one rotational movement?
I am so uncoordinated trying to do this. Yikes and I thought I had rhythm , not with this. 🤦🏼♀️ I cannot keep it flowing. My action is pretty high at this end, the string won’t touch at all.

Slowly getting there! Been playing guitar for years and never knew it was not the fretting hand that's used. Thanks
Great!
Nice breakdown, Kev! You are always making my playing even MORE dope. 😅😂
you are simply, AMAZING! I am learning all sorts of things, because of you!
Thanks! Glad to be able to help.

Brilliant lesson thank you. I have been looking for a good explanation of the slap strum.
Glad it was helpful!

You can get it. Play a little each day

You are most welcome. I agree. Keep practicing that first chip motion. A few minutes a day will go a long way :)

Great video. It helps a lot to see your hand on the side angle. It’s really a key technique to have in the toolbox 🧰😃

That is an excellent way to describe it! Yes
Is this the same as chuck strumming?
Yep. Has a couple of different names

If your action is too high it will be a challenge
Can a 'slap strum' be done without a pick????
You can slap your thumb against the 6th and 5th strings
My palm can't seem to mute my bottom e string :(
You may need to move you palm slightly up or down as you mute.
It takes an extremely hard chop to get my strings to touch the frets and my action is not real high. Doesn't work for me?
Hey there. Maybe check where you are strumming? Heavy strings? Keep trying but don’t break anything :)
