@@redpilledpatriot8484 really man? you think he sits there and decides to walk the extra distance and put in that extra effort while doing these long-ass rides because it will equate to more self-gain or a few more interactions? He is passionate about his videos and his viewer base and goes that extra mile to get those good shots because it's something he cares about.

@@grantdoyle1259 of course I think that, he has ads, and in his description he has multiple links for selling goods to MAKE MONEY, for PERSONAL GAIN. You are so damn obtuse and naive that even with the dude turning this in to AS A MATTER OF FACT multiple different ways to make money you still don’t think he does it for personal gain, you’re the definition of obtuse. I loved the end of the vid where VC shows himself going back to retrieve the cameras stationed for the ride-by footage - call me weird, but each time I see those beautiful shots 7:05 I can't help but think about the extra effort he endures to get the capture, ride back, grab the cam, and continue on. The Devil's in the details! Love it all.

That’s a good idea to get ovals on one bike for starters and using a MTB as a test platform. After spending 2500 on the Dura-Ace groupset for my road bike, I feel like it would be more of a commitment to swap the crankset there versus trying oval MTB rings

I have had oval on my MTB and Gravel/Road bike for 4ish years: Smooths out the torque delivery big time. Biggest difference I have notice is in the tech and when ever traction is needed most. Instantly noticed on zwift how much oval smoothed out my watts delivery. Never going back to regular rings.

So I got a power2max power meter for my mountain bike which forced me to change from a standard chain ring to a 4 bolt chain ring. I decided to go oval and give it a shot and the first ride same thing as you. Took it to a trail for a couple quick laps and a couple times I looked down and was going 1-2 mph faster than I expected. I did a few hard as I could push 15 second sprints and the bike was a missile. No joke at the end of the trail is a straight line sprint and the second one I did I was going 4 mph faster at the end than I normally do, I thought it was a mistake and looked again on Strava and it was there too. I've never been the type of person that thought you could buy power, but that's what the oval ring feels like. I almost feel like I cheated myself out of training harder, just go buy an oval ring.

I can't really feel the difference if anything I find the round smoother as that is what I have ridden for years , the different i have found is unless you spend for ever fine tuning the front the change is iffy, works well now. My first road bike, over thirty years ago, was a Miata brand and it came with Shimano BioPace chainrings. It wasn't pointed out to me by bike shop sales person. I didn't even know what I had for several months after buying the bike and just noticed the word "biopace" on the side of the large chainring while cleaning the bike. Some TH-cam vids explain how re-orienting the chainrings from their original position will actual give you more benefit.

If you're running 1x then you shoulda absolutely run oval. My experience is exactly the same as yours. It eliminates the dead spots in the pedal turn over and your cadence naturally accelerates on the spots where you have an effectively smaller crank to smooth the power out. I find myself constantly climbing in a higher gear than i should because its so easy to turn the cranks over.
