Very nice conversation. Bought this camera 6 months ago. Just looking at it and holding it is worth the price. A design and engineered masterpiece 👌🏻✨⚫️⚪️
There is a way to set up the Q2 to have back button focus - Look at Mathphogropher TH-cam video Leica Q2 Back-Button Focusing and Back-Button Light Metering Tutorial that was done about the time you did this video. With the release of the Q3 I was able to pick up an excellent Q2 Monochrom at a great price and still have enough left over for a D-Lux 8 for travel/family shooting. Amazing camera and it will make you go back to basics and put the joy of photography back into it.
Hi Ivan, we know, but why do we have to move the thumb while shooting? Other manufacturers allow you to use the centre button. Moving the focus point and resetting it in the same place makes a lot more sense, especially because it's simply a firmware decision!
The hand grip makes a huge difference in my opinion. I have both the hand grip & thumb grip which work great in tandem. If I could only have one, I’d pick the hand grip for sure. It makes it feel much more secure in my hand & it doesn’t add much bulk.
You walked around for 8-9 hours!!?? Damn. Back button focus seems to be popular. It’s something I never could get into. I tried it one day and it didn’t take long to switch back. I use my thumb on the shutter when I shoot from the hip and have no way to focus. So either the bbf people don’t shoot from hip or they have a different trick.
Cool camera.Good point re the 28mm and 50mm versions.I'm amazed Fuji haven't taken up this option for a 28/35/50 X100V's and even a monochrome.Always want more 🤣.Cheers.
Did you find more sharpness, less noise at higher ISO, which is supposed to be part of the monochrome advantage? Any other advantages of the monochrom version other than “visualizing” what you get?? Thanks. Geoff
This camera is special. The low light & higher iso capability is in the “game changer” category. I wasn’t sure how big a difference it would make until I started shooing with it. It’s the 1st camera I’ve owned where I don’t have to worry about low light. I can shoot anytime day or night, handheld, with no issues whatsoever. I switched over from Canon full frame DSLRs & always shot 5D models & L glass. I sold it all to buy this camera & I don’t regret it one bit. Almost everything that comes out of it is print worthy & requires almost no editing
Hi, did you use real coloured filters when shooting? I wondered if you found the lack of digital colour filter options restrictive when editing in silver pix ( because you are not starting with a colour image )
Hi Philip, I used no filters when shooting. For the shooting I did I didn't find it limiting not to have the digital filters in Silver Efex, but yes, I will probably find a time when I will miss the colour information to work the file. That's when I'll probably whip the real filters out again!
Yeah thr reset focuspoint is a bummer. Leica shoukf fix that in the firmware. Tapping the rear screen does not cut it. Plus an option /choise to realy zoom in instead of the white framr lines. I own the regilar Q2. Love it
Hi Jan, Leica makes some choices that are difficult to understand. I hope they have a very good reason for being that way, and it isn't just lack of attention to detail! They certainly have the details right with the build quality and lenses, but the firmware?
According to the Leica Video you should be able to re-programme the Zoom button (top right beside the thumb rest)to either AFL or AEL or a combination of AFL/AEL ? - th-cam.com/video/uNZJrp2EVCU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Ken, thanks for commenting. The problem is that the only AF function you can assign to the Zoom button is AF lock. This means that it is an AF toggle: you press it and it will lock focus. To AF again you have to unlock it pressing the Zoom button again. It's an odd function, meaning that you will have to press it twice to re-focus with the same button. At the same time there is no way to dissociate the AF function from the shutter button, meaning that unless you lock focus with the Zoom button you will AF every single time you press the shutter. This is not back button focus, it's a really odd behaviour with no obvious use to my mind.
@@ShootTheStreet Thats weird, you would have thought it would be a normal back button function....no doubt you will ask if there is a firmware update imminent .
@@ShootTheStreet I’m new to this, but you can lock focus with the Zoom button, recompose, half-press shutter button (which keeps the little lock icon on) and then fully depress shutter, preserving focus from original lock.

Handling a Leica is always a pleasure. They feel just great, they make you want to use them. Enjoy it!

Hi, double tapping the LCD resets the focus point to the middle.

To re-center the focus cross, just double-press the middle of the wheel.
The hand grip definitely improves handling in my opinion.
Does it make it a lot bigger? I'm sure it would help, but I like the sleek design as it is!

You can use the frame line button for AFL. Also, you can use the touch screen to move the focusing point while you look trough EVF.
We do know that, thanks. Please read the reply to the comment above to see what we are talking about

Good review
Interesting that Leica listened to you and have provided a flip screen on the Q3.
Does the Q3 enable back button focus?

Don't we all? Fuji have taken a step in that direction with the adaptters: great image quality retained, slim shape out of the window...compromises!

You actually can reset the focus point to the center if you double click the center navigation button.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
thats weird bc the original Leica q does have a back button focus option
If you check the reply above I explain better what the trouble is. It's not a normal, functional BBF.
Leica Q can back button focus. The Q2 can't. Simply don't understand why Leica removed that possibility :(

"if you like hand made British stuff".....buy this German camera!!🤣🤣..interesting video though thanks.
🤣I know what you mean...Mark didn't mean the Leica Q in particular, just good handmade stuff. And we are in UK...
