- Todays building progress of the Giga Berlin. The progress at the entrance lobby is clearly visible and the elevator tower is built. The tank farm made a super good progress and first floors inside the battery factory seem to be finished.

The artwork subtly communicates the fundamental cultural values Tesla instills into it's workforce in order to achieve it's mission. Creativity, individual initiative, and aggressive innovation together with an intensely horizontal management structure are necessary preconditions for achieving and maintaining market dominance and driving the competition into the necessary channels. Moreover and with specific reference to China, a more potent antidote to authoritarianism than a huge cadre of technically astute workers and engineers inculcated in this philosophy is hard to imagine.
I am wondering if and when solar panels are going to be installed...The roof has potential! And a suggestion...Cover the parking area's with panels as well!
Roof top solar is in the plans, but getting the factory built is the higher priority. It will be put on where the rest of the roof is finished. Putting in on the carparks seems like a good idea, but would probably involve another round of bureaucrats. No doubt some of the "environmental" organizations would oppose it. In the greater environmental scheme of things putting solar somewhere sunny makes more sense e.g. replacing deforestation and coal burning in Africa. Financially Germany would pay off as the electricity rates in Germany are truly eye watering.
As big as the roof is, the open space is shrinking a lot just by working installations.
Berlin has an average monthly Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) of 3.82 kilowatt hours per square meter per day (kWh/m2/day), and the average industrial companies paid 15.98 cents/KWh in early 2019 (BDEW)
For comparison, Austin has an average monthly Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) of 4.74 kilowatt hours per square meter per day (kWh/m2/day), and the Energy Charge (¢ per kWh) for Tier 2 users kWh 5.70¢.
So Berlin gets roughly 80% of the solar energy per square meter of Austin, and electricity costs 2.8 times more. It is interesting then that so much more roof space, in relative terms, has been painstakingly left bare for solar panels in Austin, while the roof spaces in Grünheide are quite cluttered with stacks and vents and skylights. Clearly design decisions have been driven by factors other than cost/benefit and RoI.
As a Civil Designer, many contrasting decisions in the two sites are stark but subtle visual signposts of differing climate, geography, culture and politics drawn out in physical form onto the bare earth, and now being painted (or not) onto the walls and set onto the roofs.

@@giorgiorocchi8313 We do the interfaces between the built and unbuilt environments, roads, foundations, drainage, etc. How the electricians hang their lamps is outside our purview.

Tank farm progress?
A few heaps of gravel on the ground. The works on the tank farm roof are stalled for weeks.
There has been progress at the wastewater treatment facility (which starts right behind the tank farm at 15:00). And the Central Utility Building (CUB - heating, pressurized air, and cooling).
Probably misspoke when he actually meant waste water treatment building. Quite a few new roof trusses added.
It is possible that the tank farm is still held up in permitting. Many months ago, when they first built the tank farm, "environmentalists" complained that they did not have the required permits. There may well be a rule about another part being complete before they can test if the windscreen washer fluid is sufficiently contained if it leaks. I imagine the regulators are super cautious as any slip of the pen will be pounced on by the well funded opposition.

Noch ist es nicht Fertig, aber da kommt einiges an Fläche zusammen die Versiegelt ist und bei der das ganze Regenwasser in Versickerungsbecken geleitet werden wird und dort Versickern soll.
Good and useful video! Might want to play music that plays well at 2.0 playback speed. Other than that it's excellent! Would have really liked some 360 degree views at each end of the main building and then at the middle of each side for a better orientation of the entire plant. A 360 from the parking lots would have also been good. Anyway, I really enjoyed it!
do we know anything about the tent trailers and new pit? The only thing I know they gonna build but haven't started yet is the railcar switchyard.

To which lamps do you refer to? Some of them might have twilight sensors. Due to rain it was very dark outside yesterday.

Meist kommt über obere Ebenen noch ein Dach wenn die obere Ebene nicht das Dach ist. Wenn du uns jetzt noch mitteilst worauf du dich beziehst dann können wir dir auch sagen ob die obere Ebene ein Dach ist oder eines bekommt.

Tesla is planting 294 hectars of new forest in Brandenburg which is an area 3 times bigger than the factory. The former forest was also qualified by local German authorities as a low quality forest due to monoculture. Most of the trees were pines, planted specifically to be made into furniture later on. Grünheide's mayor therefore speaks of a "commercial forest".
