  • GoPro Hero5 Black & Hero5 Session Review www.revzilla.co...
    In this in-depth review of the GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session action cameras, Ryan, our lead cameraman here at RevZilla, gives you the rundown on the new features and key differences between the two. At the same time, he compares both versions to their predecessors within the GoPro lineup, as well as with their competition within the action camera market. From low-light scenarios to 4k capabilities, Ryan highlights the aspects of the new GoPro Hero 5 Black and Hero5 Session that matter most to motorcyclists and other high-octane enthusiasts looking to make the most out of their experiences - wherever those experiences may lead.

    My biggest gripe with the new GoPro line up is that you still can't connect to a Sena Bluetooth communicator with just Bluetooth. Any suggestions for a complete solution that would work in conjunction with the Sena product line?

    • @Land-Shark
      @Land-Shark 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bluetooth Audio... If GoPro would address this issue, they would be Undisputed Masters of Motovlogging, and could also separately market a line of GoPro branded bluetooth communicators with boom mics for other people to record up to 8 others at the same time direct to the camera... As it is, there's a new Sena 10c Pro coming out soon, and I'm pretty happy with the overall video & audio quality of my current Sena 10C with firmware ver. 2.0... And worst case scenario is recording audio using a small digital recorder attached to a boom mic in the helmet, taking 5-seconds to sysch the audio & video during editing, and get great audio.

    • @Land-Shark
      @Land-Shark 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still love the video quality of my Silver 4, and am actually thinking of getting either the Session 5 or a 5 Black in December. At some point in time, Bluetooth Audio will just be icing on the cake, but it will be welcomed anytime they want to implement it. :-).

      I had the same issue (Cardo Packtalk). I've ended up not buying the GoPro 5, but rather the Fusar Mohawk (these should ship end of this or beginning of next year).

    I too am interested in connectivity to a Sena communicator. I'm waiting, and hoping you'll do a review, on the new 10C Evo. I won't be using that in 4K, either, but 1080p/60 is something I'm very interested in. But, I would like to be able to sync multiple cameras, maybe a GP Session or Session 5 so I can edit them together and have everything at the same point on the timeline. Yes, I realize there are other ways to do it, but it would just be so nice if I could say 'Start' at it was recorded to all the cameras I'll be using at once.

    Is the live preview in the app still lagging behind ~3 seconds or so on the new GoPro's? And I wish they equipped these cams with a bigger battery or better usage of power. Wanted to shoot timelapse pictures every 10 seconds during a 5 hour ride, the camera didn't even last half way... (GoPro Hero 3 though)

    Great review. I was really excited about the new Mic adaptor that also has a USB-C port, but GoPro confirmed you can only use one at a time. I was really hoping to connect both an external power source and mic at the same time, that would have been the ticket for all day recording/motovlogging.

    • @CubanRider
      @CubanRider 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My decision to upgrade to the Hero/Session 5 depended on that adaptor. That's why I still keep around my Hero2, I can connect a regular mic straight to the camera while I use an external power bank to keep it running all day.

    How do you incorporate a Sena or such device with the GoPro? In order to hear your buddies. I kind of get it when the Gopro is on the helmet but if it's on your handlebars, how are you getting audio? Just syncing up the video? Thanks in advance.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, you cannot incorporate a Sena with this GoPro model. Sena's Audio Back is _only_ compatible with the older Hero3 and Hero4 models that had a rear data pin port. The Hero5 and newer models don't have that port. With a newer camera, you would need to sync audio yourself. -DrewZilla

    • @RevZilla

      We recorded voice audio separately. The Session does not support Bluetooth pairing to a communicator, so you cannot connect a Sena 20S. For pairing to a Sena communicator, I recommend the Sena Prism camera. -DrewZilla

    Hi Ryan, I had never buy a GoPro any, but I will be traveling to Hawaii as my very first time next year and of course will be totally diving 😊, and I would like to record this trip, which one would you recommend GoPro HERO5 or HERO5 Session? I love taking photos which I have my professional Nikon and I also record videos with my iPhone 6S, so this will be a good addition to dive in, but I am not into editing or professional video making, as this trip been my very first one the most important part will be when I am in the water. I also saw the wrist band for the hero which is said comparable with previews models but I would like to know if you are familiar with that accessory and it might fit the any of the Hero5 or HERO5 session and if you would recommend or maybe you might have another idea for accessories
    Thanks for your time and hope to hear from you

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both are waterproof to 33ft (10m), so if just doing some shallow snorkeling, either would be fine without a housing. If going deeper, you'll need to get a dive housing for either, potentially a housing with a marine filter. The wrist band should be compatible with both as well. If you feel you need a screen in order to monitor your shots, then go for the full-size Hero5. If you want to be more compact, go with the Session. -DrewZilla

    I watched this review a few time before I made my purchase. I did notice at the beginning of the vid, it didn't look like you had a mic attached. If not, the Session has an awesome mic!!! Is it safe to say that with either Hero 5 Black/Session attached to your helmet a mic may not be needed? Thanks! Awesome review!

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what you're doing. If you are just filming on-board footage from your rides, the microphone should be adequate (and offers wind noise reduction). However, for motovlogging or more refined audio quality, GoPro does offer an external microphone adapter separately for the Hero5. We currently use a Sena 20S Bluetooth communicator paired via Bluetooth to a Sena GP10 Audio Back. The GP10 is physically attached to the back of the GoPro. -TeamZilla AJ

    I am still not pretty shure, I want to start doing motocycle videos soon, but wich camera should i use? The Hero 5 Session with the audio adapter is just in my budget, the hero 4 but already used (some of the are reconditioned from GoPro) is just in my budget too with the mic adapter or should i save my money so i can buy the Hero 5, with exchangeable batteries and the mic adapter? What would you say

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd go with a used Hero4 Silver or Black, mic adapter, and some spare batteries. The Session is nice and small, but you can't swap batteries. The camera isn't what will make or break your videos...it's the content. If your content is good, you'll grow and be able to upgrade gear later. If you buy expensive camera gear now but your videos aren't good, then you've wasted money. -DrewZilla

    Is there a setting or accessory that can make the gopro zoom in because I am planning on getting the hero 5 session but I have never heard of being able to zoom in with it. Sometimes I may be taking pictures, or recording with my camera that I have, which isn't that good of a camera, but it can zoom into things like animals, mountains, Structures, etc. but they don't look good because it is a cheap camera, but with the ability to zoom in with a gopro would be so helpful for a great picture. As we mention in this video as well as the companion article, it really depends which features you need or want. Unless you really need the small size of the Session, the Hero5 Black offers much more battery life as well as replaceable batteries. -DrewZilla

    Very nice review. I'm considering buying the session 5 for $70 to use riding & I'm going to buy it now. Will suit my needs until i feel i need an upgrade i think. The price is right too lol. Was only looking to spend $50.

    Excellent review, I love these reviews from an action perspective (specifically motorcycling). So tired of all these reviewers who are looking at its picture quality and microphone quality and comparing it to some mirrorless/DSLR. Thanks! :)

    Great review, thanks so much for the footage comparisons (and everything else). It _seems_ to me like they're still playing the market. Not giving highest quality, best frame-rate, best options and battery time - but, instead, saving it for a "new and improved" model which will come out next.
    This kind of thing used to PLAGUE the laptop market for maybe a decade, or longer, in the (recent!) past - until Alienware (for example) and others started to appear. Then the other "basic" models had to stop hustling older hardware and step up, too. Lets hope this mobile (motorbike) camera circus won't take that long to get up to par (to what we really need, without paying $1000s for it. :))

      Take a look at our original Session review (th-cam.com/video/ZaREhVQp_n0/w-d-xo.htmlm23s) to see how Ryan mounted it originally. It isn't ideal, and I wouldn't recommend it long-term, but it worked for the review. We tend to use GoPro Side Mounts but mount them to the left of the chin vent where it's flatter. We then adjust the arm so that the camera is centered on the chin bar (even though the mount is offset). -DrewZilla
