  • Jul-Oct 2023. I spent the day exploring Storeton's rich history. And I spent the night sleeping in the woods on Storeton Ridge. Respect the land, leave no trace, etc. Recorded with a Samsung Galaxy S20.

I grew up nearby, often playing in the woods (late 60s early 70s). Now living in Austria its a walk down memory lane of my younger years. Thanks.

Thank you pal, means a lot! This one did take longer to get out but it did allow me to spend a lot of time planning and editing, so wasn't all bad. Hope you're keeping well on your own travels mate 🙏

I've walked my dog in all the woods you mention. Walked Storeton Woods at dusk - quite atmospheric. Wirral has the most grade II buildings in the country outside London would you believe. Hope the council doesn't ruin any more of it. Thanks for the video - will look at others of yours.

Great vid Will. A great place to spend the night. I was thinking that you might of picked up some of the restless souls from the battle of Brunanburh, as that would have taken place right along that ridge. Met you on Hilbre when you were doing your wild camp there, and i was camping on Middle Eye photographing the night sky. Keep them coming mate. 🙂

Hello mate! Long time! Hope you're keeping well yourself. That was a beautiful night on the islands, I have thought back a time or two and wondered how you got on with your shots of the Milky Way! Brunanburh is defo of interest, but didn't pick anything up at Storeton. It was only when editing this vid that I realized I barely mentioned the Norse, besides the origins of the Stortún name. I'm holding off for the Brunanburh vid, because I know it's probably going to turn out an hour long or something! How have you been getting on on your own travels? Thanks again, Will

Excellent I used to use the parks( central and Birkenhead)
But once I'd got a bike my father told me of his old haunts Royston park(the old mini gauge railway belonged to an uncle,if you know about that, heswall along the Wirral way even got to clatterbridge on shank's pony, which I couldn't do now.
I only ever get back for funerals nowadays.

I'll keep my eye out for your video's.

Outstanding, as always Billy Lad, fascinating and well researched. I had never heard of the Hand Beast (not to be confused with The Hose Beast Of Thurstaston), and I didn't know about Mr. Jack's makeshift air raid shelter. I always got a weird vibe walking through Storeton, like a pressure in the middle of my chest, and I could never get to sleep up there the times I tried to hunker down. I noted that you didn't run through that speed camera on the road to Clatterbridge, so good foresight. When I was working nights on the old VW dealership up there, I used to hear laughter coming from the woods opposite, and once tried to record it, but never could.
The gangs of megrims on the quads getting bevvied up there used to be legion, they'd have ruined the place by now if they hadn't been effed off.
They were out of order, they reminded me of that gang of feral little twats that used to hang out, getting pist up in Central Park in the 80's...
A lot of the experiences I've had in Storeton Woods have been off camera too.
At least I hope they have.

Lol! I didn't consider 'Jaques' could be 'Jack's' 🤣 you might be on to something there, but I found it transcribed as 'Jacques'. Maybe a remnant of the Norman conquests?! Storeton is an amazing place, went there 4 times to get this filmed, likely gonna become a regular haunt for night-time ventures. Want the next vid to be on the Mersey side of the Wirral though for a change Barry lad, see what it's like sleeping on the river like you used to at that shipyard.

@WirralWill There are definitely plenty of spots to pick on the Mersey estuary, Billy Lad, personally, I'd like to see you do a few stealthies along 'the cable route', you dig?

Haha wtf! Thank you, I found your channel a day or two ago through the Recommended page. Watched a few snippets from a couple of vids, and you've got some very interesting content, some quite thought-provoking. Last one I watched, you were crawling down a leafy country lane, when suddenly out of nowhere an e-scooter-riding foriegner came screeching up the rear, and nearly smashed your back doors in! I fully intend to do a bit of a binge when I've got the time! Up the north-westerners! Parbold Hill and Liverpool Castle have been on my to-do list for about 2 years. Thanks for the comment my friend

Thank you mate, it is a spooky place for sure. Down on the open hillside/woodland area next to the north path, was getting that feeling like something was going to jump out of the dark, proper edgy like. Kept mistaking the rain falling from the trees for someone approaching through the trees but there was never anyone there. After midnight though I slept like a stone!
