- A simple life at a remote log cabin. Electricity goes off again, no cell service, no outside contact, just pitch black darkness without a battery generator backup. Living my best life!

I just found your channel less than an hour ago, and I feel like I've stumbled upon a haven of peace and tranquility. Time to go back and "binge watch" your videos. I love your calm manner and quiet life! So glad I found you! ~ Jen & Eric
@@littlehomeinthevalley thanks! Appreciate the comments! I was so fortunate to have found this old log cabin. It is a very peaceful place.
@@Selkirk_Homestead I just watched your first video. Wow! You had quite the job cut out for you. I admire your patience and diligence in turning it into such a lovely home. I'm enjoying all your videos so much. Have a great night!

No better feeling than being self reliant! Nice going!
@@redcanoe9810 thanks
We live in N. Ga. Mountains and our trees look for power lines to take down. So we invested in a propane fueled 22 kW Generac generator. Have never regretted the purchase. Big big advantage is the well pump is always powered. Once a year maintenance by General tech and that's it.
@@gibwest4968 my little battery powered generator will not run the pump. I really need to hook up the propane generator do I can run the well pump. That’s a big generator but way better than no electricity.
You have a beautiful place in a gorgeous area! The drone footage shows it. Thanks for sharing! Take care and stay safe!!

Interesting generator. Yes, that is one pretty place. Save me some of that sausage! My dad used to make it. Chickens look good. I enjoy your videos, thank you!👍😎🐾🇨🇦🌲🔥🌕 P.S. I'm old, too😅

I've made the sausage 4x now, it has great flavor. But it is teaspoons of curing salt and not tablespoons. My second batch I used tablespoons and whewie was it salty. I've even added some other things to it like cayenne pepper. I want to try some jalapeno and some heat tempered cheese I bet would be real good.

who makes the drone and where did you buy it ? Great video and I to am old enjoying life with my chickens and rabbits. I would like to get a drone and look at things around my little 2.5 acres.
@jlc3867 DJI 4. I bought it from Costco. They’re around $750. Very easy to use. Only rabbits here are wild ones. Had several when I was a kid.
How are you on candles and oil lamps? They have really nice warm lighting as well.
@@jellybryce7742 I keep candles and a few gallons of lamp oil, just in case. When the lights went out I couldn’t even see my hands! Had to stumble around to find one of the many flashlights I have spread around the house. There is not light pollution up here. When lights go out you are back a couple hundred years….
@@Selkirk_Homestead Neat! I recommend these little hallway /bathroom night lights that are plug in charges maybe for your kitchen and a place you have an outlet. they turn on when the lights go off. Not sure if thats good on your power consumption but theyre pretty neat.
@@jellybryce7742 that’s a really good idea. When the power goes out you can’t even see your hands. That would be enough light to be able to get a flashlight without fumbling around like I did. Thanks!
Don't know if its ever been mentioned here before as its my first time viewing. And it doesn't appear anywhere in the comments when scrolling through.
But i don't suppose someone knows which state this is in by any chance.
Looks utterly stunning, and looks like it would be my ideal place to live.
Greetings from the UK.
@@lewishamilton9577 NE Washington farthest you can go. It’s a micro climate where I’m at. Rainier and more snow than a few miles away.

Peaceful, with Incredible vibrant colours.

Question about wood storage.. do you rotate wood? How do get to wood at very back.. always wonder… thank you
@@bjsmith1575 there’s an opening in the back where I get the older wood first. Right now I’m just trying to burn up the pine because I stacked it outside of the shed.
Loved the video, what state are you in?
@@americanpatriot3297 Washington state East side
You don't need a wood stove looks to me like you can stay plenty hot just carrying firewood the half a mile from the wood shed to the house😂
@@lonesomedave8879 it keeps me physically active by carrying the wood. Once the snow starts I’ll stack some wood on the front porch. Snow depth here varies from year to year. First winter I was here there was 4’ of snow on the ground most of winter.
You need to get your self a small wagon . Thats what I did, as I got older I try to make life easyer for myself not harder . Your wood shed looks to be about as far away as mine is from the house.
@@dog_guy-c8x thanks, I’ve noticed I’m slowing down some. Don’t recharge as fast as I used to. Keep trying to push myself but I agree sometimes it’s better to work smarter. Will be 69 in a bit and I know I’m just don’t have the endurance I used to have.
@@Selkirk_Homestead one thing is for sure we are the same age. And I no all about slowing down, Some how last month my back went for a shit I think it was caused by a motorcycle accident I had over 20 years ago I have a some what colapsed disc . I am sick of our Doc. not issuing pain meds for stuff like this, they always sight addiction and thats bull shit. I say who the hell cares at my age I just want to be comfortable for the time I have left.
@@Selkirk_Homestead say just out of curiosity where are you at ??? I am about 30 miles west of kirkland lake ontario.
@@dog_guy-c8x the farthest NE corner of Washington State. Canada is just a few miles away.
@@dog_guy-c8x I had surgery in 2016 for sever stenosis in two vertebrae and a herniated disk in another. Before surgery I thought my life was over. Couldn’t do anything! In pain all the time. Surgery enabled me to get my life back. Every day is a gift pain free. I understand how you feel. You just want some resemblance of a life pain free. Trying to get pain pills is like trying to get alcohol during prohibition. I think that’s partly why they’re such a epidemic of fentanyl use. They’re gone clear to the other end of the spectrum regarding getting pain pills.
can you give me link to the sausage . I really want to try it.

Is it a “generator” or battery bank?
@@Tonezhomz this one is battery bank generator. First time I got to use it since I bought it. For some reason the electricity has gone out four times in the last 4 weeks. Thought I was prepared until the light went out. I’ve got to get the propane generator hooked up so I can run the 220 volt stuff. If light went out for extended time it would be a different and difficult time.
No emergency candles, flashlights just for this reason?
@@jim-uu2db bought some extras flashlights to place around the cabin.
Sorry but way too big for me, that cabin.
@@jim-uu2db I guess it’s more like a small house than a cabin. I like the roominess.
The roominess comes from opening it up to one large space. It kinda is a small house. Lol thanks
