    QUESTIONS SELF-PUBLISHED BEGINNERS SHOULD ASK THEMSELVES:
    How important is ease of use to me? Will I have someone help me self-publish my book, or will I do it all myself?
    When it comes to book revenue and expenses, which self-publishing service will allow me to earn (and keep) more revenue (i.e., book royalties)? Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) or IngramSpark?
    Where am I at in my self-publishing journey? Am I a beginner, intermediate, or a pro? And then, which service makes more sense - KDP or IngramSpark?
    How important is book quality? Will my readers be able to tell the difference between a KDP book vs an IngramSpark book?
    Where will I need to sell by book? Are online retailers okay, or do I need to make sure my book shows up in brick-and-mortar book stores?
    Unfortunately, customer service isn't stellar with KDP or with IngramSpark, so there's not much to say here...
    How quickly does my self-published book need to released?
    How important is reporting on book sales to me? Am I going to run advertising and PR campaigns, or not? And if so, how important is it to track performance?
    Do you have experience with both KDP and IngramSpark? Let me know in the comments!

    Great video! I found this to be so helpful as I have been pulling my hair out going back and forth trying to decide where to self-publish. It is my very first book and it's in the cover and interior layout phase. You broke all the information down so well and made it understandable to a total newbie, like me. It is making much more sense to me now, to chose KDP for my eBook and paperback book. Thanks again very much!

      Ditto for me as I consider Hard Cover w Dust Jackets for my first book.

    Thanks so much for this video! The only thing that was stopping me from going with KDP was that Ingramspark distributes to Barnes and Noble stores - but what you said about where most people are buying these days makes a lot of sense, and I never considered it.
    Definitely going with KDP, now. Thanks again!

    Jay thanks so much once again. I had watched your Ingram vs KDP vid but this one totally solves my dilemma about getting distribution at the hyper local level by ordering author copies on KDP (as I am super wary of Ingram). I had no idea that could be done because I am not quite at that stage yet. I am using a POD company for my ARC copies but will compare pricing and go accordingly. I only hope the local stores are cool with this approach but will give it a shot. Thanks again, keep up the great vids.

    Interesting video, Jay. I have been with KDP for 8 months and am now thinking of branching out to Ingram Spark. We shall see. I have made hard copies of my books on KDP and already sold some, so there are prospects. Thanks.

    @How Stories Work with Jay Sherer, another problem with KDP is lack of Dust Jackets for Hard Covers.

      @HowStoriesWork  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaah, that’s good to know! I haven’t tried printing a hard cover book with them yet. Thanks for the heads up!

    Seeing that you’ve sold 95% of your books on Amazon, and only 5% on IS, when IS makes your book available to over 40,000 retailers, .. is WILD… to say the least. Just goes to show the true power of Amazon.

      @@HowStoriesWork in all honesty, do you believe IS is actually worth it?

    • @HowStoriesWork
      @HowStoriesWork  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Personally, not for me. I don’t see a good reason to use IS unless quality is a giant issue (many writers think it is, but the truth is their audience wouldn’t know the difference). And even then, the quality isn’t THAT much better. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The other scenario: You’re a writer with a big name and bookstores will stock your book. This is probably less than 1% of self-published writers.

    KDP print quality was god awful for my book. So I pulled my book for that reason. Ingram omg they do take a big cut of your money. 😫😩😩

    • @HowStoriesWork
      @HowStoriesWork  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, that’s too bad with the KDP quality. I’ve had good luck so far, so I’m crossing my fingers there! And yeah, the cut Ingram takes is ludicrous. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Jay

    Is this video and review US centric, or does this apply for authors all over the world?

    • @HowStoriesWork
      @HowStoriesWork  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question, Ray. I assume the experience is similar for authors all over the world, BUT I'm not confident in saying that. I believe IngramSpark would work similarly in many countries, but I'm not positive that Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) would work the same way in every other country. They may have different terms and rates. I wish I could give you a better answer. I THINK it's probably similar, but I don't know the specifics.

  • @jstringfellow1961

    Thank you. This was really helpful. I couldn't figure out why IngramSpark Cust. Ser. only emailed me and no one actually answered my questions. I couldn't get the upload on my Ebook and they didn't really help. It may be cheaper to upload directly to IngramSpark initially, but they do take more out since they are a distributor. Amazon wanted $600 for the upload on KDP vs. IngramSpark $49 so there you go.

    • @HowStoriesWork
      @HowStoriesWork  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! When you say Amazon wanted $600, what was that cost for (what all was included)?
