These boxes are a great option for people who are primarily painters/collectors. They let you get a lot of cool stuff to paint, yet lets you get your feet wet in the game without a calculator and multiple books. Great video!
The battle sisters box is older sprues from the Battle Sisters plastic launch box which had the codex and cards (8th ed I think) so you have no options for the builds. That's why there are the weird numbers for some of the units. I believe it was the first time Sisters were available in plastic.
I was coming to say the same thing. It's like the new Guard Combat Patrol. The entire Patrol box is just the models from the Cadia Stands army box without the codex, cards, etc...
Yeah I was gonna say that too. It’s the sister’s monopose set where you get only 1 load out for everything which is why is such good value because it’s less stuff and less flexibility than buying everything separately. Also the Arco flagellants are much nicer sculpts in the box of 10.
I don't know if the Last Podcast on the Left sticker is new to your laptop, but I got pretty excited to see it when I started the video! Always fun to see different creators supporting/interested in other areas Adam! Another great video as well! Thanks for your hard work!
SoB combat patrol is mostly Sisters Launch box from 2019, and it included monopose models in those weird quantities. They just added Rhino to the mix. Also, canoness in Combat Patrol is a unique monopose model, so probably would be cheaper than multipose canoness that is sold separately. Same goes to penitent engine - it has no options, unlike the boxed ones. So it is a very weird-looking set compared to other boxes, but they are not really comparable. No other army(to my knowledge) has it this weird. I have no idea why GW ever made launch box to be unique sprue, but I guess they want to keep using those molds. Same set is also a part of Imperium magazine subscription. Launch box was 210$ (but it included Codex and cards and some dice, so you'd have to do math again to figure their values anyways).
Just to piggyback on that, GW seems to have gone through a weird time (cost cutting maybe?) where they released models in boxes on sprues that didn't make sense for wider release. I believe the current Space Marine Combat Patrol was on instance (were they 8th edition launch?), but then Sisters, the Chaos Venomcrawler/Obliterators, even the Necron Royal Court. The new Guard army box turned combat patrol seems to break this trend. I think they're all the actual retail models. Maybe Leagues of Votann release did too, I'm not sure.
@@charlescarpenter9098 Double-piggyback: CP Space Marines is most of the Phobos Marine half of Shadowspear, the debut of majority Phobos Astartes and new Heretic Astartes. I knew someone would beat me to the initial comment!
The lord on juggernaut for the world eaters can also be built as a named character - lord invocatus. He's widely considered to be the best leader for the world eaters so i think it's likely that they'll suggest building him
I could see that. They gotta do something with all of those unbought starter sets haha. The elite edition necron half would be perfect just by adding another unit of warriors/scarabs. Will be interesting to see what they do for them because theres no way that box is compatible with this game without really fudging the rules/stats of the night scythe.
I think the new CP is a lord, 3 scarabs, 10 warriors, 3 of the sword guys (can't remember their names) plasmacite and the big robot. I have that patrol and a space marine one ready and painted.
@@intzbk1 Im actually currently working on the Necron myself as well. I love when the community can predict such an obvious GW move as simply recycling the previous starter sets haha. I predicted it myself in this same video but I thought they would simply add another unit of warriors and scarabs but looks like they went with the doomstalker which makes more sense as every CP box has one big hitter in it
I just want to mention that the Thousand Sons Combat Patrol also includes 4 Tzaangors upgrade packs, each of them costing 15$ for a total of 60$. So you would have to add that money to the savings making them much better 🙂. Still, very nice video!
If you’re getting an overpriced sprue you don’t want for cheap, are you really saving money? I actually like the tzaangor models, but those upgrade sprues are wayyyy overpriced.
@@maxxon99 Legit point, but I want to make clear that I was just mentioning what's inside the box. No mention if it's good, bad, worth it or if someone wants it or not, just the contents :)
The cheapest combat patrols I've been scoping out are the ones I already have most of the models for. Like if you have the Sororitas launch box, pick up a Rhino and you're good to go!
Great video on the combat patrol boxes. In the process of putting a space marine & necron combat patrol army's together. This is great for pricing and figuring out which army to do next. Thanks for the helpful info!!
The Sisters are not as fiddly to paint as it seems. They very much depend on the colour scheme you choose and the techniques you are prepared to apply though. I have used airbrush to lay down all my red and then just brush for the metallics and some washes and highlights and they are very fast for the outcome.
Re: Grey Knights: There used to be a 5 box of the non-Terminator brothers for a while for about 60 % of the 10 brother box Re: Death Guard: Pox Walkers at least are useful in that box, as Typhus really likes them. Comparatively easy to paint, too. Re: Space Wolves: The 5 Reivers are a special Space Wolves unit with a different name (Hounds of Morkai) and datasheet, also available separately (at least used to) Re: Sororitas: most of that box is the content of the special edition box (+ Rhino) that was released when they got their new models, which also were part of the „Imperium“ magazine subscription thingy. As in: those models have exactly the poses and loadouts that are on the box.
At my FLGS this box costs 100€. If you consider it comes with 5 kits plus a character it means you can resell 3-4 kits plus the magus at like 50-60% off, recoup, and keep at least one unit for free from each box. I see folks doing that on the local second-hand portal constantly.
Hooray the Khorne demon box that I recently box AND the sisters of battle box I was going to buy next are on the top 2 price savers! I bet my wife will be proud of my money saving! Or give a polite nod like she does.
Nice work on the Deathwatch! I started with the Dark Angels combat patrol and recently got the Genestealer Cults box at 20% off, the savings were great, the models look cool and very fitting for the desert industrial board I want to make down the line. I'm also tempted by the Astra Militarum one because some of the models are also compatible with the Cults, but I'm going to paint the 28mm human size neophytes first to see how I like that compared to the bigger space marines.
The tau stealth suits are still 35 USD because they are wildly out-classed by the crisis suits which have jumped to 80 USD. Stealth suits in 9th were anti infantry whereas the crisis had enough options to build as anti-anything both were elite options. the ghost keel had similar problems, also competing for the elite slot with some descent slapping power but crippled/dead by turn two without sacrificial infiltrators like pathfinders or kroot.
Great video- As a non-player (read: miniature painter only,) I've always just bought the models I think look cool, regardless of points or lore. I epically appreciate the humorous descriptions / translations you provided as to what the named figures and units actually are like! I gotta admit, the first thing I plan to do when I finish this comment is look up the space El Camino! Peace, Brother!
Great video. I just started the hobby and my plan is to lean into Chaos to have more options for smaller games but have models that can still ally together for higher point games. I am still painting my first box, Boarding Patrol CSM. Next box will be Combat Patrol World Eaters, and then Combat Patrol CSM.
Just started 40K (have been painting Warhammer Underworlds) and these Combat Patrols are a good start for me. Decent amount of models and I'm looking forward to play it (against a friend who doesn't want to get into collecting and painting, but is interested in the game). I get that for veterans these boxes might seem useless, but for me it's a great starting point (and I can stay away from the standard Space Marines/Tyranids starter sets).
An excellent video, nice and comprehensive, bonus points for miniature horses. Definitely looking into actually trying out combat patrol when 10th hits. Exceptionally keen for the new Snarling Badger game too!
Who is that box for? Who wants that many Tzaangors? Me. I do. I have 40 of them and love the kit. It's fun to put together and has so many options for mixing and matching bits. Plus I use the blades for all sorts of conversions. Also, I play Tzeentch and Beastmen in AoS, so I get good use out of them. It's a bad box for new TSons players, but a good box for Tzeentch players in general. Luckily, the Tzaangors with chainblade and pistol are objectively worse than the blades right now, so there's no problem with just building those, which can be easily used in AoS. However, I'm half hoping and half dreading that the chainblades/pistols will be a decent option in 10th. Dreading cuz then I'll buy one of these Combat Patrols, but hoping cuz beastmen with 40k weapons are dope as hell. I also kinda need 5 more Scarab Occult, but that's another problem lol.
I could make an Aeldari combat patrol from my OG metal Eldar from the 90's. Except I think I only have 4 or 5 jetbikes, not 6. I just wonder if they are going to have options, or rules for CPs for factions they don't sell. I'd like to see a Corsair Pirates CP at least. And non-Primarus marines (firstborn?).
Space wolves come with the hounds or morakai box which is a 5 man reiver box with some upgrades, they're an anti psyker unit would give the T-sons a headache but seeing as your box only has two psykers it won't be that bad
Love a lot of them for Kill Team. Have gotten a lot of free teams after selling the rest of the boxes. Got 21 free orks from Ork combat patrol after selling the dredd & 3 copters & 1 warboss. Did the same w/ the PlagueFester warband. Entire free Deathguard team after selling the vehicles & terminators.
This may actually pull me back into 40k (well at least the 40k part that is combat patrol anyway). It depends on the ruleset. I am hoping they update the Necrons (although if they don’t I already have all of them), and also hoping they release an Iron Hands combat patrol box.
One thing that may change the math a little bit for players who are strictly looking to only play combat patrol and don't want to build a full army: combat patrols may not use all of the units included in a combat patrol box? I'm not sure about this, but if you look at the CP preview on the community site ("Ways to Play Warhammer 40,000: Combat Patrol is Fast and Fun") you can see that the space marine combat patrol is 12 dudes. The current space marine CP box is 17 marines and a tank. So either the the core set has a special space marine combat patrol that is different from the regular space marine combat patrol, or the new space marine combat patrol box is going to be greatly scaled down from what it is now (seems unlikely), or the combat patrol strike force for space marines just doesn't use all of the models in the CP box. In the case of the last possibility, it's now not really a question of the CP box vs buying everything in it, it's a question of the CP box vs buying only the models you'd need to make your combat patrol team. So maybe still a savings, but less? Or I'm just overthinking it, which I have done once or twice before.
The article you mention doesn't show the currently available CP boxes for space marines or 'nids; in both cases their pic is the parts of the Leviathan box that will have CP rules. General expectation (like Editor Atom says) is that the present boxes will get replaced pretty soon.
@@TheKrenshar yes, that's exactly my point. The current CP box for space marines is 17 marines and a tank. Given that CP boxes tend to be around 150-180 dollars, do you think the new Space Marine CP box is really just going to be the 12 marines that are in the Leviathan CP picture? I think it's far more likely that it will contain more than that and you just don't use all of the units when you play CP. If that is the case, it reframes the question this video is asking for some players. If all you care about is playing CP then the question isn't if the CP box is cheaper than buying everything in it separately. The question is how much are you saving buying the CP box vs just buying the minimum units needed to play Combat Patrol? Likely you are still saving, but not as much as the video states.
@@mjcathcart Then I had misunderstood your point in part. Looking around the existing CP boxes, the only ones I would anticipate not using the full box would be Custodes plus maybe eldar (perhaps only fielding 3 of the 6 jetbikes), tau (dropping a character dependent on how they treat the ghostkeel) and sisters (not using the 3 arco-flagellants would be my guess, as they have a lot of units in that box). This is all going by my gut though and I've not tried a points-cost comparison across the boxes at 9th ed values or anything. My expectation is that the next space marine CP box will indeed just be those 12 infantry models, all push-fit and available only in starter boxes, the CP and Leviathan - in fact I'm pretty sure the full infernus squad is two sets of the same sprue of five models, the sergeant and grenade-lobbing marine having the same body). So I'm anticipating it either being cheaper than most CP boxes or else one of the worst for savings at about $10 (assuming $60 for terms, $30 for half an infernus squad, $40 per character for $170 value-equivalent). Alhough it wouldn't overly surprise me if terminators with build options get priced at more like $70, which would arguably raise the technical saving but aren't the exact same models, as is the case with the sororitas CP box. Alternatively I note that the image for that article is missing Custodes, Necrons and both the current marine and 'nid boxes. So it could just be that they were victims of layout decisions, actually aren't going anywhere and we're jumping to conclusions. I think that very unlikely for the 'nids though since there are new termagants, while the Necrons box appears to be dead, but if any army were to get two CP boxes, it's going to be generic marines.
I notice the Adepta Sororitas Boarding Patrol shows up on the store page when I filter for Combat Patrols. I wonder if they might drop the older, more complicated box for that.
This is a great video I would like more of these type because I am the kinda guy that like to get the most bang for my buck but I am into the grey knight box even it may not be the biggest saving it still gets me some pretty cool stuff for cheaper
I really want a World Eaters box for 10th but theyve been out of stock in every physical hobby store Ive been to and every online retailer ive looked at (that i know for certain will ship to me). Also I just checked and the Necrons box doesnt even show up on GW's site.
I can understand having more or less line items (more or less complexity) between the standard data sheet and the Combat Patrol versions... but it seems weird (bad/wrong) that the same rule on the two cards have different names: "The Imperium's Sword" vs "Unstoppable Valor"...
I'm concerned for the Necron CP. It'll be interesting to see how GW handles the scythe, which no doubt is going to be nerfed to hell. I'm hopeful that the new necron content this winter comes with a new CP, maybe? If so, I have a feeling they are going to recycle the 9th edtion recruit/elite starter sets for Necrons, combine them, remove the warden and then repackage them into a new CP. The current Space Marine box is the only one I think has value unlike the Nids box, mainly because its an entirely different set of units that could be to someones liking compared to the upcoming box for SM. No telling if GW would keep both boxes but more than likely not
I hear you, it's an interesting situation for them. Clearly I don't think the combat patrols were designed and published with 10th edition in mind, therefore some are better than others. Clearly they have two options, adjust the combat patrol boxes content to make them more balanced or have to magically do a hack job on the relevant combat patrol data sheets to balance. Ideally combat patrol data sheets are as close to table top data sheets in terms of stats and abilities.
I enjoyed your overview of all the kits and commentary, but throughout the video you often describe how good a kit looks with no images of the combat patrol or the specific unit to go along with it. I know it's an extra chore to edit in, but it would be a big help to be able to visually reference the boxes and models without having to pause the video to search them up, especially since aesthetics are such a big part of why people invest into the armies. Cheers, looking forward to hearing your thoughts on 10th editions releases!
Honestly, it was my intention, but I ran out of time. The text and overlays took way longer than I thought, especially for how many Combat Patrol boxes there are. Thanks for watching!
It will be these boxes. Maybe not for the Necrons (because flyer) and maybe not for the Space Marines and Tyranids (because Leviathan) but if they don’t make Combat Patrol lists for the current boxes, then they’ve wasted everyone’s time and 10th edition will fail. Thanks for watching!
Here's a dumb question: I bought a Space Wolves Combat Patrol box last week, is that box still going to be valid and playable for 10th Edition? Or is the 10th Ed Space Wolves box going to be different?
What GW has said (a few times) in their own articles is that the Combat Patrol "game mode" will use the current boxes. It wouldn't be the first time they went back on the publicity if they did change it but with CP rules written for these boxes, I reckon you're 99+% safe with that box.
so I have some unbuilt Adeptas Sororitas Combat Patrol boxes with the same models but for $120 - is there other goodies included in the boxes for 10th addition?
Thank you for the overview! To me, it just shows again and again that there is neither rime nor reason about GW pricing their models. And it still is a tough sell as a starter box, when you get a full army, cards, dice, ruler and terrain in a ASOIAF starter box for just 100$.
I could definitely see them reusing the necron half of the start collecting elite and recruit models as a combat patrol. Royal warden Overlord w/ tachyon arrow and glaive 20 warriors 3 skorpekh destroyers and a plasmacyth 6 scarab swarms It has over five hundred at the moment. And it was the recommended “combat patrol” between necrons players throughout 9th. And only costs $149 before selling or splitting the space marines. With no res orb and probably keeping the warriors in ten mans I don’t see them being too much to chew through before reanimating. They’ll suffer against elite and vehicle armies too as their only anti tank is a single shot missile. It’s kinda perfect for a zombie robot armie. But hopefully we get something new. My ideal list would be Command barge 10 warriors 3 scarab 1 spyder 5 praetorian 1 lokurst destroy. It comes in at $244 usd down to $160 it’ll get you $84, but the real saving is you can buy the box a good three - four times. You’ll end up with three different hq choice with a little conversions to a lokhurst lord. And only double up on a single spyder and over lord but you could kitbash that into a really chunky technomancer cryptek.
Great video. Is it still worth picking up a Combat Patrol box even if you plan to get Leviathan? I’ve never played 40k. That DA CP box looks good I’m thinking I’ll do DA for the Leviathan box too
Rivers come in box of 5 with SW upgrade sprue called hounds of morkai for 55$ Intercessors have 5 men box with BA upgrade sprue in Blood Angels Death Company Intercessors also for 55$
Your Combat Patrols all cost the same?!?! Ours in Australia don't! Anyway, the Sisters odd numbers is because the sprues are from the original Sisters release box, with mixed sprues. It's also the sprues that come with the Imperium magazine. Essentially the magazine gives me everything except the Rhino. I also have everything in the Necron CP except the croissant and all the Adeptus Mechanicus stuff without the crawler.
I looked at the Adeptis Sororitas online and it did not list a Rhino in the box. Current description on Games Workshop doesn't show it in the pictures nor list it in the box. Is your description of that box based on a new edition that will come out?
Very useful! I do get a little grumpy that a lot of the savings in these boxes seems to be balanced around the overpriced hero models. But a good resource when you want to stay 100% GW.
I used to think the same thing. However, Adam’s old video on the GW pricing model gave me some perspective, whereby less frequently purchased minis are marked-up. Generally speaking, named heroes will only be bought once, and then only by collectors of that particular faction (excepting display painters). To make it worth the cost of producing a quality hero GW needs to recoup it’s money. Rick Priestly also mentioned this in an interview in 5G4D; when the ‘money men’ took-over running GW, they actually tried to stop them making heroes because they lost the company cash, not realising that without heroes no-one would buy the troops and vehicles that are lucrative for GW!
I loved this video! But uts honestly really messed up that GW pumps loads of new sculpts and minis to 40k and AoS and MESBG gets two new hero sculpts a YEAR. Like we are still using tons of sculpts that are like 10 to 20 years old and and we have a select few heroes taht actually have a good quality sculpt and are made of PLASTIC, and not metal ir horrid resin. It would literally change so much if they would resculpt all the major warrior sculpts just once to a modern standard. Most of them are one-piece, slot-on base minis that really dont even come near to an space marine or other streamline 40k units. I wouldnt mind if they rampet up the price alittle for the ca. 20 warriors boxes from 30 euros to 40 euros if they would make them new multipart, finely sculpted minis. Like plz GW, 40k fans complain hat a model is an old sculpt if its 5y old but to us an 10yo sculpt is completely normal. Lets change this
Im wanting to get back into 40k after a 10 year break and I'm curious about something with the necron box. Since they get one of the first codexes in 10th edition, is it reasonable to think they will get one of the first 10th edition combat patrole boxes? And if so, does that make it a good idea to buy the current necron box now? In order to get the saving on the minis in the current box assuming the contents will change. Not planning to exclusively play combat patrol, more asking about the value of getting both the current and theoretical new box with the goal of building a 1000-2000pt army.
Is it realistic to have my wife and I buy T'au and Aeldari Combat Patrol boxes and just play? Or is it like most games where it's decently expensive starter sets that quickly realistically need like 4 more boxes of various units each to actually feel like we're playing a meaninful sized game? Thanks!
I kinda fell down the 40k rabbit hole, but I haven’t bought anything yet. A bunch of people say “start here” and that here is always different. These boxes seem like a good place to start along with the rule book. But should I wait until 10th Ed comes out? I didn’t even know that a new Ed was coming out so thanks for that. I don’t wanna buy something just for a month later it to be outdated. If I do end up buying a mini or codex will it still be able to be used in the next Ed?
Don't spend money on the rulebook, the core rules will be available as a free PDF directly from GW when 10th launches, plus it will get errata within a month so the physical book will be quickly obsolete. Rules for all armies will initially be available in an Index format rather than a codex one, that is also supposed to be free directly from GW. If you want to start anywhere, buy some models you think look cool and start the fun parts of building and painting your models. Rule of cool always wins because model rules will fluctuate wildly with editions and errata, so you might as well get something you enjoy the hobby side with instead of trying to chase the mutable text associated with them.
@@RozanovaHunter thank you! That’s great that they are gonna be free for 10th. That cuts the shopping list in half now that 2 $60 books are off of it. I appreciate ya!
I'd love to try this game, and I love Sisters, but I _hate_ penitent engines. I won't buy them. I won't play them. They're gross. So no Sisters combat patrol for me. Edited: I won't buy, paint, or play arco-flagellants. either. 🤢🤮
I’m trying to figure out what you’re talking about - I don’t have an editor and there also doesn’t seem to be a reply to your question. Thanks for watching.
@@tabletopminions your addendum to the end, from your editor station. You answered my question there: the video was pre-Leviathan and you didn't have an answer for Tyranids yet. All good!
If you want to play Combat Patrol, you won’t need a codex - the data sheets for Combat Patrol (and the rules) will be free downloads. Thanks for watching!
@@tabletopminions Thanks for the reply, but I expressed myself badly. I meant: playing normal open games, should I wait for the new rules before buying their old Combat Patrol and/or wait for the related Codex with which there will be new models?
From what has been said on Warhammer Community, unit rules will be free downloads and each army will have one set of Detachment rules for download. Each codex will have more detachments for that army, we don't know yet if unit rules for any new models will be in their codex or online. For your BA specifically, their faction focus article is up later this week, which might give you more information.
Now that most of the rules for 10th are out, I'm curious if you still want to do combat patrol. For our Crusade that I'm going to run with 500-point games I'm going to be using the boarding actions restrictions. I really dislike that combat patrol requires you to have a very specific build of those models. I get it but that's not what I need for a 500 point game. I'm curious if you have the same feelings.
I’ve finished painting two Combat Patrols as of this week - Deathwatch and the Space Marine Combat Patrol from Leviathan - and I’m building the Astra Militarum Combat Patrol now. Sam and I have played twice so far and will be playing again soon. Thanks for watching!
Do we know if the weapon options in combat patrol will be the same as they appear on the box? Building the guard box and want to get it done before release, but also don't want the wrong weapons 😢😢
it's probably safe to assume that the Combat Patrol lists won't be that granular when it comes to unit upgrades/options, like "you MUST assemble one dude with a flamer, you MUST give this vehicle this turret weapon", etc. For example for Guard will probably be along the lines of "Infantry squad, sergeant can have X, Y, Z loadout, two models can replace lasgun with one of the following: X, Y, Z.". I wouldn't fret too much.
From their latest Combat Patrol preview - "To keep things balanced, the weapons options for the units have been fixed for all the Combat Patrol datasheets, so there’s no need to fret about your character and unit equipment prior to a game. You don’t need to worry about which guns to give your Chaos Space Marine Havocs, for example. "
Short answer; GW hasn't explicitly said. I already have that same issue, with my existing admech force not having the load-out shown for the CP box. So I'll be using the closest equivalent models I do have to count-as/proxy while I give CP rules a go within my gaming group. And with the weapon load-outs being set, an opponent ought to be fine with you saying that (for instance) a melta-gun counts as a flamer for a game.
@@TheKrenshar this is my hope, because we can't deviate from the combat patrol's loadout, most players should be pretty chill if your minis aren't WYSIWYG
Saving money on ebay is a total myth, at least if you're not in the US so the shipping prices get stupid. 99% of 40K listings there are a complete waste of time. Also don't get me started on how many people think their sub par paint job somehow raises the value.
Hey bud… so I paint minis, and was wondering if starting a TH-cam channel would be a good idea. Just wanted to ask if you had any thoughts. As far as the video goes definitely getting a death watch box! Love aggressors… and black armor. Black Templars was my first army. Great vid. :)
I think it’s a great idea if you like content creation - it’s a lot of work but it can be very rewarding because the community can be full of great folks. Thanks for watching!
10th edition is due to launch during June so you shouldn't have long to wait, at least. But if you want to get started sooner, one option would be to get the box for another marine combat patrol (but not Grey Knights), leave off the upgrade sprues when building (unless there's a cool bit or five that you want to use) and paint them as you please. Except for the Grey Knights box and the Space Wolves Lieutenant, the units are all available to any marines army. And you can still use the combat patrol rules for whichever box you bought, however you paint your models.
They’re gorgeous models, but they’ve also just got a bunch of fiddly bits to paint. If you compare, say, the Sororitas Rhino to the Standard Rhino, you’ll see just how many little gribbly bits there are. I’ve been “working on” the same exorcist on and off for about a year. It’s “almost done” but then I’ll find some other detail I haven’t thought about painting yet.
They’re small and have lots of detail - even more than the Astra Militarum. I’d have to figure out a very specific way to speedpaint them. Thanks for watching!

Weird!
You mean awesome!
Extra points for using the term, "D'Eldar".
Brother Atom, these Friday vids start my weekend on Friday morning. Love it.
Ok. Thanks for the clarification!
That's actually cool! I hate building a lot so that's awesome for me.
It comes with an additional rhino that didnt come with the launch box
I don't know if the Last Podcast on the Left sticker is new to your laptop, but I got pretty excited to see it when I started the video! Always fun to see different creators supporting/interested in other areas Adam! Another great video as well! Thanks for your hard work!
My Friday doesn't start until I hear "in this video..."
World eaters looks pretty nice. I don’t play the game, but would get into painting them. My local store has most of the boxes below market price too 🎉
That's another good point. You can get those boxes with up to 20% discount off of the Gdubs price, sometimes even more in e. g. clearance sales.
The lord on juggernaut for the world eaters can also be built as a named character - lord invocatus. He's widely considered to be the best leader for the world eaters so i think it's likely that they'll suggest building him
For necrons I assume the current starter set will be reboxed as a "new" combat patrol for them
I could see that.
Unfortunately, you're also getting loads of Tzaangors. So, factor that into the _lack_ of value.
I was thinking that 😂
If you’re getting an overpriced sprue you don’t want for cheap, are you really saving money?
I actually like the tzaangor models, but those upgrade sprues are wayyyy overpriced.
Interesting, they didn’t mention it in the description, but it makes sense. Thanks for watching!
@@maxxon99 Legit point, but I want to make clear that I was just mentioning what's inside the box. No mention if it's good, bad, worth it or if someone wants it or not, just the contents :)
With the World Eaters box, you can build “lord on juggernaut” as Lord Invocatus instead which is what I’m doing with my box right now.
Very nice in depth look at the various patrols.
Re: Grey Knights: There used to be a 5 box of the non-Terminator brothers for a while for about 60 % of the 10 brother box
Re: Death Guard: Pox Walkers at least are useful in that box, as Typhus really likes them. Comparatively easy to paint, too.
Re: Space Wolves: The 5 Reivers are a special Space Wolves unit with a different name (Hounds of Morkai) and datasheet, also available separately (at least used to)
Re: Sororitas: most of that box is the content of the special edition box (+ Rhino) that was released when they got their new models, which also were part of the „Imperium“ magazine subscription thingy. As in: those models have exactly the poses and loadouts that are on the box.
If the Praetorian Imperial Guard ever get rereleased, the command squad must have a fellow with a kettle making tea.
Great video.
GSC is like 32 miniatures, including the transport.
Cool video, I wish they would put out info for how to build the boxes now so we can be ready for release!
I think they’ll go for “build them as they are on the cover of the box”.
The Soriatas box is madeof sprues that are only available in that box.
That's how the odd numbers work...
I’m just coming back to the hobby and this vid is incredibly helpful.
I'm now officially onboard the 'Deldar' train.
Great video-
As a non-player (read: miniature painter only,) I've always just bought the models I think look cool, regardless of points or lore.
Armored unicorn is the best way to describe a Rino lol
The Thousand Sons box is actually a better saving, for there are 4 Tzaangor-Upgrade-Sprues (60$) included as well :)
This was great. Now my second favorite TTM video right behind Kill Team Armies under$50.
Calculus for the win! Now do that for every other mini game out there! 8)
Space wolves come with the hounds or morakai box which is a 5 man reiver box with some upgrades, they're an anti psyker unit would give the T-sons a headache but seeing as your box only has two psykers it won't be that bad
Great vidéo ! In Euros, discount rates are actually bigger than in dollars
Useful video, which incidentally taught me how many freaking armies there are in modern 40K.
It’s ok, 50% are just different flavoured space marines it seems
That’s been happening for awhile, not just the Sisters of Battle Boarder Patrol box. Thanks for watching!
Stillmania has finally arrived!!
Great breakdown of contents and prices. Love that LPOTL sticker!
This was a super fantabulous video. Very helpful, much appreciated.
I was sure that beep at the end was you swearing about how much of a discount the Sisters of Battle box was lol
In general, the sets with older kits are “better value”.
I like this type of video. I hope that this happens with Vanguard boxes in AoS next edition and you do a similar video.
But will it be those boxes or complete new Combat Patrol sets designed for 10ed?
Thank you for making these kind of videos!
You always get told Orkz iz best because orkz iz in fact, best. WAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!!
Thank you for the overview! To me, it just shows again and again that there is neither rime nor reason about GW pricing their models. And it still is a tough sell as a starter box, when you get a full army, cards, dice, ruler and terrain in a ASOIAF starter box for just 100$.
Any advice for getting paint sets going? It looks like most armies take 5-10 different colors depending on units and quality.
I could definitely see them reusing the necron half of the start collecting elite and recruit models as a combat patrol.
Royal warden
Overlord w/ tachyon arrow and glaive
20 warriors
3 skorpekh destroyers and a plasmacyth
6 scarab swarms
It has over five hundred at the moment.
My ideal list would be
Command barge
10 warriors
3 scarab
1 spyder
5 praetorian
1 lokurst destroy.
Well I was closest the first time
Great video. Is it still worth picking up a Combat Patrol box even if you plan to get Leviathan? I’ve never played 40k. That DA CP box looks good I’m thinking I’ll do DA for the Leviathan box too
I’m planning to do that same thing, but with Blood Angels. Thanks for watching!

💯 Damn Zangors, getting the boarding patrol and playing KillTeam instead.
Rivers come in box of 5 with SW upgrade sprue called hounds of morkai for 55$
Intercessors have 5 men box with BA upgrade sprue in Blood Angels Death Company Intercessors also for 55$
Your Combat Patrols all cost the same?!?!
Pop goes the monkey on the Deathwatch, very nice.
I just need the chtonian berserks box so I can play combat patrol, Im excited!
I’m hoping the new Space Marine CP is the rumoured 1st company that I’ve seen images of.
I looked at the Adeptis Sororitas online and it did not list a Rhino in the box. Current description on Games Workshop doesn't show it in the pictures nor list it in the box. Is your description of that box based on a new edition that will come out?
Were you looking at the Boarding Patrol or the Combat Patrol? Thanks for watching!
All Hail the You Tube Algorithm Gods. Just convinced me to pull the trigger on Sisters. Been sitting on the fence, just jumped off...
If you want to build an army down the road, then getting the box now (for the savings) would be a good idea. Thanks for watching!
Is it realistic to have my wife and I buy T'au and Aeldari Combat Patrol boxes and just play? Or is it like most games where it's decently expensive starter sets that quickly realistically need like 4 more boxes of various units each to actually feel like we're playing a meaninful sized game?
Thanks!
If you just stick with Combat Patrol, then all you need are those two boxes. Thanks for watching!
That's not me hyping my own sale by the by, just a copy of that model I found on eBay :D
I'd love to try this game, and I love Sisters, but I _hate_ penitent engines. I won't buy them. I won't play them. They're gross.
So no Sisters combat patrol for me.
Edited: I won't buy, paint, or play arco-flagellants. either. 🤢🤮
oh geez if you think the Sisters are gross because of a few units I got bad news for you about literally every other faction

Oh holy crap, I posted this and then the Editor came out and answered me specifically! Lol thanks! Still want chapters, plzkthx
All good!

I can't wait for 10th. I would love to start a Thousand Sons combat patrol, but i hate how many tzaangors you get in it
i really want to convert a catachan combat patrol since their isnt one, but i know thats not the point of this video!
Being a player of BA and Necrons, I should wait for the release of the tenth edition and the related Codex. Right?
Still leery of the "balancing " and how much buffing/nerfing the units are receiving, especially how some boxes have vehicles and others don't.
@@tabletopminions did your build match the required build in the datasheets?
Orks is absolutely da best, and da krumpinest
The Tyranid and Necron Combat Patrols have now disappeared off the website. I hope the Necron Combat Patrol is replaced soon.
I do agree that GW does have the best looking models.
Can you show the models as you talk about about them. Not everyone knows the names.
Interesting, thanks very much for going through these, saved me a lot of time!!!🤣🤣👍👍😉
Saving money on ebay is a total myth, at least if you're not in the US so the shipping prices get stupid. 99% of 40K listings there are a complete waste of time. Also don't get me started on how many people think their sub par paint job somehow raises the value.
As a Death Guard player.. I hate combat patrols..
Really hoping the old Tyrannid box is covered
Hey bud… so I paint minis, and was wondering if starting a TH-cam channel would be a good idea. Just wanted to ask if you had any thoughts. As far as the video goes definitely getting a death watch box! Love aggressors… and black armor. Black Templars was my first army. Great vid. :)
I think it’s a great idea if you like content creation - it’s a lot of work but it can be very rewarding because the community can be full of great folks. Thanks for watching!
Cool as always. 👍
I don’t even see an option for the Necron Combat Patrol anymore. Stealth discontinued.
I'm wanting to get into the hobby. I'd like the run of the mill Space Marines. What should I buy?
You might to wait for a bit. I’m not sure what’s happening.
Necron CP is no longer even on the UK GW site so RIP that CP I guess?
I assume they’ll replace it with something else. Thanks for watching!
What's particularly bad about painting sororitas?
They’re gorgeous models, but they’ve also just got a bunch of fiddly bits to paint. If you compare, say, the Sororitas Rhino to the Standard Rhino, you’ll see just how many little gribbly bits there are. I’ve been “working on” the same exorcist on and off for about a year. It’s “almost done” but then I’ll find some other detail I haven’t thought about painting yet.
They’re small and have lots of detail - even more than the Astra Militarum. I’d have to figure out a very specific way to speedpaint them. Thanks for watching!
