    I almost went this route but glad I didn’t. My lawn guy has 7 of these machines. He was going to sell me one of them bc he turns them over every few years. By the time I purchased the machine, bought the attachment plate and 2 stage blower, I was going to be in it $10k. I bought a skid steer and an 8’ snow pusher instead and have the flexibility of having a forklift and other attachments. A warm cab in the winter can’t be beat. Nice, honest review you put together.

    That was the best move getting rid of that guard most newer machines have completely open chutes in front to prevent clogging in wet snow. But with any snowblower the right speed is important to get that stream of snow flying.

    Nice review!. I've been using one of these setups for about 4 years now. Like you, I took that guard off during the first snowfall. I have not experienced the same problem with discharge out of the slot, but that may be because I modified mine to have a electrically controlled chute deflector. We got about 16" of heavy wet snow yesterday, and it went through it like a champ - though I think i'm going to upgrade to studded tires. Traction was the only thing that slowed me down.

    • @drummergrl1000
      @drummergrl1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What studded tires did you end up getting. My Walker snowblower slides and gets stuck on a small grade if we get 6 or more inches.

      @@drummergrl1000 Armstrong XT-41's from mowerpartsgroup. They have not arrived yet. I'll try them without studs first - hoping they are aggresive enough.

      @@danc2207 Keep me posted. I need a solution and the rubber and metal tire chains I bought didn't work. They came apart right away and got snarled up behind the wheel. The tire chains from Walker are $275. I asked if they were gold plated.

    As a Connecticut Toro Distributor in the 1970's we'd barrow a snow blower every year from our inventory and would routinely remove all of those guards, so the machine wouldn't cog during usage.

    I’m surprised it did that well with that slushy snow. Looked pretty good to me. Just wait until you get some powder snow and high winds, you’ll throw it 60ft

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was really surprised too. The John Deere diesel has some pushing power but their snowblower isn't nearly as tight as the Walker.

  • @DallasHerrmann

    We've got a 3-point snowblower and a Hustler Super Z Diesel that drives the deck with hydraulics. Think I might try to build a thing.

    @roguescapes8198 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We use Grasshoper 60' diesel Driftbusters and this happens every year on the first snow as long as the ground is warm. The first snowfall is always problematic for the throwers.

    Snow coming out the adjustment slots?
    Buy a kids plastic roll-up sled and cut out big washers and slide it up between the top chute and the inner housing.
    It worked perfectly on my bercomac tractor blower with the same issue

    Hi, nice review. I’m looking at a Walker B27 vs John Deere x758 for mowing a hilly lawn with up to 22 deg slope and for cleaning snow on a good sized driveway (5k sq feet) with moderate slope. Having used both, what are your thoughts. I have no other farm or land maintenance needs that would take advantage of the JD versatility. Thanks

  • @gjhoddy

    Thanks for that. That was a brutally wet, slushy snow. Did you ever use a plow with your Deere? That huge area in front of your garage must make it tough to use blower.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never have the blade for my Deere. I am not the biggest plow fan. They always work great at first but if the piles freeze you start to run out of space. The space in front of the garage was much quicker with the Walker, that surprised me a lot. The Deere snowblower is 47" and the Walker only 42" but the speed and turning still allowed me to get it done in less time. The tractor has other benefits of course but mowing was not as good as the walker.

    Hard to keep any blower chute clear under those conditions. I’ve got a Kubota Bx and while the chute hasn’t plugged completely under similar conditions it’s been pretty darn close.

    I am looking at Walker T20 now online that comes with an extra deck and the snowthrower. Have you found maintenance on it so far to be a burden as a residential user. This one is carb with 1100 hours. I worry about the engine and landscapers that don't take proper care of their equipment... Any advice would be appreciated.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to give it to you and I learned the hard way. Don't buy anything used from landscapers. They are not bad people it's simple, why would they ever seel a piece of gear that makes them money? SOMETIMES they do, but I have been burned too many times, hidden problems beat up gear, etc. I will almost never buy from anyone but homeowners now. That's what I found but there are exception if the machine is very new but with the hours you said I would be very careful.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry the other answer is no about the maintenance. Old walkers were not great this one needs very little for home and some business use. Just grease every couple of months and oil change but nothing like what people tell you.

    Did you have to add a blower lock out kit or a plug for the blower. Thank you very nice video

    • @danc2207
      @danc2207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my dealer advised me not to get the lock out. The said just taking the blower belt off for the season was easier, and it's really not that bad. The plug takes 2 minutes to put in - just make sure the notch is oriented correctly, otherwise the hydro fan will hit it.

    I looks like your are pushing the snow. Another thing it look like you are doing double work. Start one on side , it looks like you are blowing snow right where you just cleaned. It does blow snow great, it would be nice to have a cover over it with a plastic window to keep the snow off and out of your face. I just saw your first video, and I guess they do make a cover for you !

    Usually, when those guards are there, it's because of some consumer law, or just a law suit precedent. Nobody wants them, but greedy lawyers don't care how many problems they cause others as long as they can get rich. If they banned lawyers from benefiting from settlements when acting as an attorney, it would not only make life better for everyone, but products would be so much cheaper.
    Wet snow will always tend to bunch up like that in front. Coating the bucket and everything with something slippery can help. They make snowblower sprays, some people use PAM, lol, I use silicone. Or, some just wax the machine before winter.

      It was a better machine for snow, but not good for fine mowing, just too big and heavy. When I finished the grading and heavy work I had it made more sense to sell it. But if I had more of a farm/utility need it would been #1 forever.
