  • Hello scrappers and planet lovers. In this video, I will show you all the great copper, zinc cast, tin, and other metals that can be found from scrapping a ceiling fan. I will also answer the question if “separating the copper from the motor is worth it. I will show you how to safely and effectively identify and separate the metals in order to maximize your profit and divert as much of the material away from the landfill as possible.
Here is the link to the full breakdown of a ceiling fan:

I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I was a scrapper full time about 7 years ago and loved it. I went through some life changes and quit diving and got a job. Last week I decided to pick it back up because of our financial situation and I'm having a blast! I didn't realize how much I missed it! I'm still having trouble telling the difference between cast Zinc and Aluminum though. Thank you for all of the information you provide!

Cast zinc is normally heavier than aluminium

    Final weights: 1 motor with copper (4lbs 3 oz x $.052 = $2.18) broken down (3l s 6 oz x $0.12 = $ 0.41) + #2 copper (13oz x $5.23 = $4.25) makes it total $4.66 apart. Note final copper from the 5 fan motors 3lbs 6 oz.

Love the tips and tricks my friend. Id love to learn how you clean copper wire and motors for time efficiency. Or is it all just speed. Happy canada day.

Speed and repetition is the big ones. A grinder also is nice because it does help cutting down wear and tear on your body.

Thanks for the video, very informative. I was wondering if it is worth it. As far as I can say for my area, we are still not getting the prices everyone else is. Our yards are just not wanting to give prime for scrap. Take care and I will see you on the next video.

You could also stockpile the copper and once you have a big load drive it to a scrapyard a little ways away. Not sure your situation but I will bring my lower priced items to Sarnia (20 mins. away) and copper, brass, gold circuit boards, extrusion, wire, etc to London 50 mins. away. The price is well worth the gas on the vehicle.

I wonder if I crossed over into Canada, could I scrap my brass and copper over there? You're getting a WAY better price even after the exchange rate. I get $2/lb for clean yellow. Only getting $3.30/lb for #2 copper.....
Also, I recently opened over 30 sealed units and the only ones that were aluminum windings were the mini fridge motors. Had 3 and all 3 were aluminum. They were the only ones.
