    Been a certified mechanic for 50 yrs and I am very impressed that you use the equipment you need to diagnose and repair vehicles correctly! Seems a rare occurrence in today's world sadly. I've seen lots of guys with tools but very few actual mechanics.. my hats off to you!!

    I like that you are not letting the bull that "other channel" is saying about you. I sometimes watch it just to catch up on his jealousy of you and how much it is growing. I can never give you any grief about the equipment you use because it is whats needed to be efficient. I am in the same boat. You can spend little money and spend lots of time trying to figure things out or you can buy a nicer scanner (because they do exist for reason) and not just be able to graph a fuel pump or cam and crank etc. I am probably rambling on here but "that other channel" does nothing but talk out his a**. I appreciate the videos you put out and the time you take to do them well. You are doing nothing but helping people no matter if other people can see that or not. Thank you Eric. You have taught me plenty and watch every new video to learn more.

    Seeing how you set up the Vantage was interesting for me. Nice visuals on the before and after repair too. Believe me, I've been converted. Us DIY'ers either get the equipment and learn how to use them, or we keep changing parts, or we find a competent tech/shop. Either way it's expensive but at least we have a choice. I always appreciate your honesty and candor Eric.

    I watch your channel to learn. Your diagnostic skills are why I enjoy watching you fix these cars. As nice as those high end scan tools are, if you don't know how to use them they are useless. This channel rocks!

    I bet you a ton of mechanics would have went straight to the transmission instead of taking the initiative to go deep into tps data. Since there was no codes set and the light was off, they would have though, "oh we have a mechanical problem lady!" Lol. Test, test, test and the problem revealed itself. Great video.

      I'm betting watching other things would have shown reflections of the bad tps. I imagine the ignition timing and fuel injection were doing the herp-derp jerk amongother things :)

      I had a next door neighbor, when I was young, that knew my parents had a low tolerance for barking dogs ... so they put their dog's house RIGHT next to my parent's house - about as close as you could possibly get on their property. Then, they left the dog chained up in there as the temperature dipped below 15°F. I knew it was getting that cold, because the thing would HOWL any time it got that cold - the kind of howl that makes the hair on your neck stand up. Was like it was crying for help. Was annoying, but sad at the same time. People like that ... well ... I'll just take my momma's advice on that one and keep my mouth shut.

    Well the right tools in the hands of the right car care provider equals the right repair the first. Without the equipment and knowledge, what fire the tranny cannon at it first? Oh still not fixed! Then what? Tow bills? TCM? Flashes? Heck, full fuel system flush? Sell the vehicle and still losing money.
    Time is money! And this man charged the owner for his time and gave them their money's worth! Excellent job Mr. Eric! Oh and I'm not even going to get on the dog conversation. Have a great day.

    "Captain Caveman" bwahaha. I wondered how you`d have diagnosed my `99 Jeep TJ. It would intermittantly buck while steady cruising. So I frequented the forums and they had some threads of bad TPS`s which I felt was the culprit. So I R/R`d the TPS and sprayed contact cleaner in it and cleaned the plug connectors. Problem solved for a couple weeks. Repeated the process and same results. Finally popped for a new OEM TPS and problem solved for 6 months. I chased wires and grounds and auxiliary grounded the sensors at the throttle housing. I observed a very intermittant open loop of the 02 sensor. Note: the symptoms were almost identical to the bad TPS. I replaced the o2 sensor and she`s fixed. I wouldn`t have believed that an O2 sensor could have enough control to do this had I not encountered this myself. It`s been good for over a year now. Thought this was pertinent to mention.

    Why no picture of the pine cones? No. No I can't see. LOL... You realize I wish they offered a module for laptops that do the same thing as the Autel or pico. Oh they DO! there are programs for laptops that do the same thing as the autel and pico-like autoenginuity all you have to do is search. I have an 8 Ch Hantek lab scope works just as good as the pico it just cost a lot less

    • @laddhooks
      @laddhooks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Autel 908 Pro and Autoenginuity. If you think Autoenginuity does "the same thing as the autel" you haven't used either enough. The Autoenginuity is also glitchy as Hell even compared to Autel. As far as a scope goes...any scope is better than no scope I guess.

    • @hammondautollc7809
      @hammondautollc7809 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry you got me wrong I was not saying that they are the same just pointing out that there are programs for laptops that can scan the car and i have three scopes two handheld scopes one 1Ch one 4Ch and the Hantek which is an 8Ch scope each has its own place in my toolbox and no I do not own or use either Autel 908 Pro or Autoenginuity I do have and use the autel DS708 Sorry for the mix up

    • @mikeburton1733
      @mikeburton1733 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love my little DS708. Worth every penny. There is a chinese clone out there of a Bosch scantool with bidirectional controls thats bluetooth to a laptop. Still waiting on mine to arrive in the mail to verify. Super cheap. I too have the Hantek 8 channel scope and it's ok but I find it's not quite fast enough to capture some crank signals cleanly. My PICO 2200 4 channel captures it very well. It costs half of what the PICO 4400 series automotive labscope costs. One day I want to use the Hantek to capture 2 intake cams , 2 exhaust cams, crank, and maybe some VVT's all at once just to see if it can handle it. Can't do all that with a PICO at the moment. Only 4 channel units I believe.

    Awesome view of "some" dog-owners. I need to disagree with your " If I can do it, you can do it" sign-off. I watch and am in awe of your talent. Could I have diagnosed that - heck no. I'm learning, but my learning curve is more like little waves on a straight line. You have taught me more than I could have imagined when I first stared watching. Please stop apologizing for the way you do things. Have a great one Mr./Dr. O, and give that wonderful wife of yours a hug for me.

    I had a Sun Interrogator big box scope.........with the floppy discs for different mfgrs.
    The Snap On comes out with the handheld scanners and basically rendered the big box obsolete.
    However, could still run many tests.
    Rolled with the Allen scope in tech. School............
    I thought that was the cat's behind at the time !
    But the setup you got goin is truly wonderfull, and you demonstrate the test sequences very well.
    A big plus is the language in your instructional videos............
    You're speaking my language,
    I mean that there are many other great vid's but they're Pakistani or Russian or German and a bit difficult to understand sometimes.
    You, I can understand and laugh along with your comedic style.
    Thanks Eric for the tech. Tools updates and the laughs !

    Don't apologize for doing it the way you do it, Eric. People blame their lack of tools for not being able to fix or diagnose a car. The fact is that most of the time (not all the time) if you know how to fix it if you had the right tools you can probably fix it without the right tools--it just takes a bit longer. I, for one, like knowing how to use the right tools and I've learned so much from this channel.

    Jerry B. said what I say. With over 50 years turning wrenches I have seen a lot. One shop I worked at had a lot of customers that had been to other shops and problems remained. We had up to date diagnostic gear and knew how to use it, including and exhaust gas analyzer. It takes a lot of money to buy great equipment so you have to charge enough to pay for the gear and that's just a start on what it takes to run a shop.

    The 2.7 in the sonata and Tucson along with their Kia counterparts are notorious for the idle air control motors to crack all over and around the housing. I was chasing a weird issue on my wife's 02 Sonata that only has 115k on it now, had 77k when we bought it almost 4 years ago, and I happened to look at the IAC one day and saw it cracked. New ones are dumb expensive so we went junkyard picking...out of the 20ish Hyundai's and kias with the 2.7, only one had a non cracked IAC and the issue was solved. Never threw a light. Only throws a light for a purge valve, which is brand new OEM Hyundai but the code won't permanently go away. Car has no issues and has been almost bulletproof and it was my wife's first car she bought with her own money that is fully in her name. Paid 3300$ out the door from a Kia dealer and j absolutely would recommend the 02-05 sonata to anyone looking for a good reliable inexpensive and super comfy car.

    Have a 2013 Kia Sorento, 2.4L GDI fuel injected. I watched this video, replaced my Accelerator Position Sensor, which in this car is the actual accelerator pedal, $160.00 from Kia. The issue remained for about 3 days, and the it seems to be fixed, have not seen it in a month and was doing it every 2 days. I did back probe the pins on the connector, to find ground and power pins. The remaining 2 pins were signal pins. I removed the pedal ( takes 5 minutes, 2 bolts 1 plug) and through the process of continuity pin checks I isolated the two channels. I was going to put on my scope but never got to that level yet. So my problem is fixed. I attribute the computer learning the new accelerator sensor. There was a sweet spot (rpm, speed) this occurred more often and I often drive at this setting to validate the fix. I was not going to let Kia keep the car and say they couldn’t find the issue....that will be $200.00, thanks. I just saved my time and threw my money at the likely cause. My car did not thro codes on this issue probable due to the fact that one channel is still good, however the computer voting when the two channels don’t agree is where the computer goes to “limp mode” and the car starts to jerk.

    Another great video!
    I hear ya with that dog barking. My neighbor has the same deal and probably worse.
    Been going on for three years now. Wearing earplugs doesn't help at night.
    They leave the dog out in wind and rain. ASPCA says if the owner provides some type of shelter (under a patio covering), is proving clean water and food and that the dog doesn't appear to be unhealthy - then there's not much they can do other than provide a notice that they have been there and will be back to check on the dog's condition.
    State law says if I can provide videos and audible proof that the dog is barking for more than 30minutes at a time, several times a day or night, and that I have spoken to the owner to try to remedy the problem without success there might be grounds to fine the owner $50 (1st offense up to $500 for repeated or multiple offenses).
    I told the owner that I called the ASPCA on his ass and that I would love to see his dumb inhumane ass wearing that 10-foot long chain for just one day so he could get a taste of justice. Told him that he needs to be on the chain to see if he would complain or "bark for attention". People like that shouldn't be allowed to have any animal.

    The most amazing part of this video is in the first five minutes...goes for a test drive...hmmm...feels like a sketchy TPS. I wonder how many shops (or us DIYers) would have been replacing plugs and wires, fuel filter, etc

    Your dog rant was spot on. Anyone who has a dog who barks all day should have their dog taken away. Dogs don't just bark to bark, they bark because their needs aren't being met. Like that dog on a chain whose deprived of socialization and the ability to run around.

    I used the snap-on scan tool, and my scope was this huge hulking Sun thing that had its own cart. I can see why you break down the repair and the pinpoint testing for the audience, but in my real world, once I saw the scan voltage trace of the bad TPS, I would already have the writer calling the customer and ordering the part while I pulled the next car in...or maybe pushed it in!!! Speaking of a no-code problem, many of the younger techs were far too attached to the codes, which I never took at face value. I saw the codes as reporting a symptom, and they saw it as the problem itself.

    Hi Eric great explanation and demonstration of cause and effect of problem.
    A viewers tip for those pesky screws I keep a jar of old elastics around and will put a piece of one you often get off lettuce through the screw hole and then turn the screw in the hole a couple of turns it holds it in place until you can get it started in the thread. The dog may be barking but that does not mean that you can not teach an old dog new tricks. How is Cloe doing in her new home?

    Hey eric. Thanks for the ford parasitic draw video. I got a cheap clamp meter and finally found my draw after 4 years. Car doesnt have an alternator fuse and I cant easily disconnect the alternator cable without a lift. Its at 3,4 amps draw with the key off. Alternator charges fine though and car runs if you lift the battery cables. You really are something else when it comes to fault finding.

    Had a lady bring her car in complaining of high idle. Couldn't find anything and no codes so on a whim I unplugged the idle air control and the idle returned back to where it should be. Put a new idle air control in and the car ran beautifully again. Took me about 30 minutes for everything.

    All kinds of tools are nice. I have an inch-pound torque wrench from Harbor Freight (not a sponsor) that saved me more than a hundred bucks. I've only used it once. My brother called me an idiot because now I have a torque wrench that I don't use.
    I told him that fifteen dollar wrench saved me three times what it cost. And I'll have it if I ever need it again.
    But Mrs. S doesn't let me go to tool stores alone any more.

    Any grief you get might come from the fact that you say "If I can do it, you can do it." Always makes me chuckle when you say that. Should probably say "If I can do it, you can do it, provided you have $30k to spend on tools, a lift and diag equipment."

    I ran into an issue with TPS screws on an outboard because they were stainless steel and my magnetic tip screwdriver would not hold it ! I found that Shoe Goo (rubber cement) on the tip of the screwdriver would hold the screw until I could get it into position.

    About the ending - Eric its always better to show us the scope graph and tell "here is your problem, lady" :) instead of show us a multimiter with digits and tell "oup, see the numbers flickering? I suspect its a sensor" and then replace it - then all haters will start to hate with their special voice "Oooo...he didn't test it! He didn't proved it! What a rookie" :)
    Great job Eric and keep it doing.
    BTW - any new video from brother company? Last one was really interesting :)
