    A super unappreciated part of Command the Dreadhorde is "it does damage to you." instead of paying life, which is really abusable. I have a deck that runs Blessed Sanctuary, Personal Sanctuary, Righteous Aura, Purity, and The Wanderer in conjunction with lots of group slug effects and Dreadhorde Invasion. It's definitely a C+ card, but in that deck it's amazing.

Just dont be too greedy and put yourself down below 10 life and stay around to just get what you need like flying, haste, trample, menace cards to close out games and its a very nice addition to a black deck for sure

    Wandering Archaic has been always great in my games. He gets almost never removed because everyone wants the copy ability for the case that someone can win this turn and someone else at the table wants to play counterspells.
    I think too many players focus on the "what does Wandering Archaic for me now" instead of "Wandering Archaic will make sure no one else can combo off so i can win later"

    I agree with the assessment of the card Smoke, but in its defense I'll say it's a stax piece that won't lose you friends. I used to run it in a Torbran mono red burn deck, and at times did really help stay alive against go wide strategies. There was never a time I played it where everyone at the table groaned or got upset, like you would generally see when a static or winter orb would hit the table. Smoke isn't so good that it detracts from everyone else's fun but can still be useful in certain decks.

    I still think Sunforger has a use and I think they are pretty narrow minded on actually using it. It’s the ‘I’m going to fish out the card that’s saving me from a board wipe or game ending spell’ not for random pieces of removal.

      Defently, i have a boros equip deck with Ardenn & Rograkh at the helm and FunForger is one of the best equips in the deck! Just needs the right package: Angel's Grace anti instant win (best feeling vs thoracle muahah), Boros charm / teferi's protection for wipes protection, swords to plowshers / Return to dust for single target removal and the sweetest: Rebuff the wicked a freaking counterspell in white!, some protection from colors for offensive and defensive capability and throw in Mistveil plains to reuse the instants forever.
      As long as you can cheat the equip cost i think its a very good equip

    • @thetaoofgaming7045
      @thetaoofgaming7045 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      welp, these two shits got me to click on the video because of the Sunforger grade. Sunforger is straight a wincon, besides some of the other mentioned spells( Teferi's, Boros Charm, etc) probably the best combo I've done in my Aurelia deck is wait till the perfect time, namely when the blue player taps out, you fetch Chance for Glory and take an extra turn to kill 1 or more players. even if you don't end the game you can re-equip and tutor Angel's Grace to keep from dying. and yes, your creatures are now Indestructible for the rest of the game, which shouldn't be long. Getting alittle tired of these two giving Boros the shaft more than Josh Lee Kwai.

    • @jo_ken
      @jo_ken 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thetaoofgaming7045 Haven’t ever used it for chance for glory / angel’s grace, but that’s mostly just because my Aurellia deck is angel tribal reanimation so I’m mostly just packing the Teferi’s protection and Boros Charm along with whoever removal pieces I already have in the deck. I still think though the card is the emergency ‘shit has hit the fan button’ and in my current play group they’ve caught on that if I have it out they need to get rid of the equipment first before trying to wipe the board.

    • @ManrielXiii

      Nah it sucks in 99% of decks. It's really good in feather or Ardenn intrepid archaeologist paired with some commander that has red. But in the overwhelming majority of decks its a huge mana sink that gets your creature to become a huge target for value removal with really mediocre benefit for the turns used to play it.

    I just took Mindcrank out of my Syr Konrad deck, because it can’t guarantee creatures, and my strategy doesn’t really center around draining life or combat damage. Ever since you guys mentioned “not good enough, Gary,” From Spongebob, thats all I can think about whenever I cut a card. 😂 I’ve been an adult for quite a while now, and I still think that show is hilarious.
    I also have Crypt of Agadeem in that deck, and besides that one time my only option was to play the only two lands that came into play tapped two turns in a row when I really needed the mana it’s been pretty good. If that happened and I didn’t have enough creatures in the graveyard to take advantage of it the next turn, then I might have been a little mad. I think thats too unlikely of a situation to put the card on probation. 🤷‍♀️

  • @empty5013
    @empty5013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    sunforger is still pretty good in equipment/artifact decks where you can mitigate some of it's costs. people also forget it gives +4/+0 which is actually a ridiculous power boost. boros also has some of the best instants imo, boros charm, akroma's will, deflecting swat, wild ricochet, path to exile, return to dust, settle the wreckage, these are all great cards that I'm happy to run anyway and can genuinely win the game for you. A well timed boros charm or akroma's will is instant GG often.
    it definitely isn't for *every* boros deck any more though, it's too slow if your deck has no synergies.

    Mythos of snapdax is interesting and my thoughts used to be the same as your guys'. However consider in those 3 colors you're up against blasphemous act, toxic deluge (with white to really support lifegain), and now the new vanquish the hoard. In these colors I'm also not often wanting to do a mass artifact wipe, as it's probably the bulk of the mardu ramp, as a 4th boardwipe, sure it's probably a great pick and i still love it as a pet card - of course it is also cheaper than all the others i've mentioned, but just thought I'd give my 2cents on why it's maybe not an A+ :D.

I’ve been playing a Krenko deck for five years, and only recently pulled out Goblin Recruiter specifically because of those badfeel scenarios of being decklocked into goblins. My biggest advice for anyone seeing this comment and thinking about it: Have Goblin Matron be the goblin you put on top, followed by Conspicuous Snoop. So you guaranteed get the Matron who can not only tutor, but give you a shuffle as well

      Lifeline is definitely niche but there are a couple other plays for it. Gisa, glorious resurrector would exile opponents creatures. Leyline of the Void would as well. I believe Liesa, Forgotten Archangel would give you the option of putting your creature in your hand or return to battlefield, while exiling opponents.

    Righteous Aura is much, MUCH better then you are giving it credit for. It basically makes you immortal to damage. Put it in a control deck, especially one that plays at instant speed, and for two mana you never have to worry about commander damage, fatties, whatever. It allows you to worry specifically about go wide tokens and combos, as you can ignore everything else. Even protects you from burn, including your own cards like Heartless Hidetsugu or Command the Dreadhorde. This, of course, ignores playing it in a lifegain deck, where the 2 life cost becomes negligible and it makes you immune to commander damage. I'd try this one out before you dunk it.
    To wit, this is a rebalanced Forcefield, but not a million dollars, prevents the damage entirely, and is an enchantment.

    Sunforger is great in a Feather the Redeemed deck. It becomes 5 Mana: "Draw" an instant/sorcery from your deck. Plus you get a free cast of that spell!
    Is it "Jam in every deck" good any more? No... But the decks that can use it are great!

    • @Explosive371
      @Explosive371 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't like sunforger in Feather as much as I used to for one reason. All the targeted instants/sorceries that would go back to your hand are 1-2 CMC. You're paying 8 mana (the first time) to tutor a 1 mana card and cast a one mana card. Is it bad? No, it's not terrible if you get more than 1 use out of it. But I think Sunforger is more effective in decks like Syr Gwyn and Rograkh/Ardenn, where you can bypass the equip cost. 5 mana the first time and 2 mana every other time, and tutoring for 3-4 mana spells instead of 1-2 mana ones makes Sunforger a house.

    The one home I ever found for Wandering Archaic was Belbe, where having strong 5-6 mana colorless spells to drop on turn 2 is great. It’s not as good as 6 mana Ugin or Immortal Sun but it does work, especially since early on when you might get it out a lot of people are still casting ramp spells. I mean, too often those games end too fast to really pay off if you land a turn 3 Torment if Hailfire for 7, but Archaic was still good.

    I'd say if you cannot reliably reduce the equip cost on sunforger, then putting it low makes sense. But as soon you have any card or commander that can reduce that cost (Zirda and Ardenn are the big two), then it goes from too slow to a game winning board piece. The most important use for it imo is not for removal or card advantage but protection or an alpha strike. If you aren't using sunforger for something like Akroma's Will or Teferi's protection then most other equipment will serve you better.

    I'm not sure I disagree with your rating, but I feel like you missed the main point of Righteous Aura.
    The big payout is in a Lifegain deck, to protect you from Voltron decks that kill with commander damage. This converts commander damage into mundane life loss, and doesn't even have to target.
    That being said, it is extremely niche, and may get cut even in its ideal deck, so I might want to bump it to D-, but not much higher.

And you can just break it in Feather, it's incredible the amount of resources Sunforger gives.

    Crypt of Agadeem is maybe my favorite land. I built a Modern deck around it (winning with a lethal Profane Command and/or Lotleth Giant) after discovering it when building a janky Endrek Sahr combo deck. It's better in 60-card decks where you can get multiple copies of it (apparently Agadeem has several crypts...) but mono-black is my favorite color "combination" and Crypt of Agadeem is insane for them.
    Cabal Coffers is a bit easier to enable, but the ceiling on Crypt is way, WAY higher, and you can get it tapping for 10+ mana a lot faster than you can with Coffers (like, turn 4 or 5). Plus, it taps for a black mana on its own unlike Coffers.

    sunforger has taken over so many games, while I agree it never casts things on rate, it is wrong to think of it in that way because equiping it is comparable to casting a grim tutor and thinking of it on those terms makes it more than worth it as long as you're running teferi's protection, board wipes, and spot removal. Also, the fact you can cast wraths at instant speed or tutor for teferi's protection whenever you want is absurd, especially since you play mistveil plains from being in white anyways. Also, it's absurd with sir gwyn in mardu. It's pretty sick with ardenn too, which has a ton synergy with krark or vial smasher. Even in Jeskai, Kykar likes it if you're going for more of a control theme. I'm running it in osgir and it almost always takes over the game if I'm not ready go off since my boardstates require I run a lot of interaction because he gets me targeted a lot.
