It's time to amend the Constitution to: 1) explicitly state that the president does not have absolute immunity for breaking the law while in office, 2) term-limit all justices of the supreme court to 18 years on the bench, 3) make supreme court justices conform to a code of conduct as all article III judges, and 4) create a commission made-up of senior federal judges with the authority to sanction any article III justice or judge who violates the code of conduct.
There has never been an impeachment of a Supreme Court justice as precedence, but since SCOTUS is hell bend on removing precedence, so I am all for impeachment of a justice starting with Thomas. I would like to see a financial probe of all justices by the IRS. Most of us who worked in companies have more constraints on taking gifts than these justices.

In the presence of a crime, there is no distinction between "Official Acts" & "Unofficial Acts"..... It was a piece of silliness the way the Court ruled. "Staging a coup" is a crime, there is no way around that and there is no way defend that as an "Official Act".
It can be rejected. Would be illegal, but Biden can now pardon everyone who violates the law. The justices can be impeached, although not for treason. Biden could also take official actions that would removed them from their office in one way or another. Also illegal, but as it is an official act it’s now possible to do so for Biden without any consequences for him.
Their coconspirators in the House and Senate would block impeachment. If there is sufficient evidence, like their unconstitutional rulings, they could be charged with a conspiracy against the United States.
We need to elect a President who’s willing to engage in this battle with the Court, not simply comply with historical precedent. If there isn’t significant pushback, this will become the precedent.

The new rules brought forth are unconstitutional. To change or amend the constitution is not the role of the court. It is Congresses role to change the laws. Therefore these new rules by the Supreme Court are illegal.

Thank you all for a great discussion, and Judge Luttig, that "writing for the ages" comment caught my ear too ... remarkable hubris. As an artist, I never stand before a blank canvas and say: "This will be a masterpiece." My strolls into and out of excellence have taught me more humility, not less. For the ages? Hopefully not many, and as an embarrassment.
The Senate should issue subpoenas to the SC justices and question them up and down about this ruling and its consequences. Let them be properly shamed in front of the American public for what they have now unleashed on the country. And the next step should be that judges who respect the law around the country should get together and state that they will no longer heed what this SC says but will only obey appeal courts as their highest authority. Time to end the fiasco of giving respect to justices who despise the people and the Constitution.
First of all, these Justices do not despise the people or the Constitution. And secondly, you should re-think what you are asking for here. You would wind up with a patchwork of contradictory precedent across the land.

Women have rights in one state which are denied to them in the very next state. In some red states they are even denied the right to travel to another state and anyone who gives them a lift to another state is liable to prosecution if it is to obtain an abortion. The right to travel!! Which has always been taken for granted by everyone and rightly so. That is how much these Justices despise the people and the Constitution.

Dred Scott is a parlor game compared to Trump v. United States. I've got to ask you, Neal, how could you possibly have ANY respect for Roberts, never mind "a great deal of respect" for him? He plainly lied during his confirmation when he stated under oath that "no man is above the law, not even the president." He also lied about precedent, he lied about judicial restraint, and he lied with that BS "I'm just an umpire." Judge Luttig is right, the decision is unconstitutional. Not even mentioned is the fact that by this ruling, the Supreme Court has invalidated the impeachment clause. They have just immunized the president of the United States against "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

In the presence of a crime, there is no distinction between "Official Acts" & "Unofficial Acts"..... It was a piece of silliness the way the Court ruled. "Staging a coup" is a crime, there is no way around that and there is no way defend that as an "Official Act".
