I'm so thankful for Louie, Belinda and all who showed me so much hospitality over the last 30 years. I hope the new owners will keep the tradition going.
Louie is one of the most hospitable and kindest men I have ever met. He has the personality of a celebrity. He is one of the reasons I always went back to Cave Springs. I'm truly going to miss Louie and Belinda. Happy retirement to the 2 of you.
Living in Dunsmuir in the 70’s was fun for me since I was 8 when we moved there so I peddled my butt everywhere around town. Back then we were dirt poor but I still muddled along. That part of the river is just beautiful to be around, the blackberries along the river were so juicy! I saw my first running steam engine while living there when the Freedom Train came through, that was incredible.
In the late 1960's / early '70's, our family with four kids rented cabins. Roll a way bed added inside and a cot on the porch. I remember playing on the swing slide with Louie and his mom and dad ran the place. Little tags on the wall asked that you leave the cabin the way you found it... and my mom did. I will be staying in the cabins one more time this summer. I'm looking forward to living in a cabin that the doors stick, the floors that are not level, the metal chairs on the porch, nails on the wall to hang things, two prong electrical ... generations have enjoyed.
I grew up here year round, love the cave and Soda water. Love the original home where the pool is now, an Easter egg as hidden above a painting until the house was being removed and found. I hope the new owner fixes the trail down to the cave and to the soda spring in the cave.
Would love to hear your ideas on how to bring more people to Dunsmuir. I'm pretty passionate about thinking of ways to increase tourism here to make places like Cave Springs Resort booked year round. Right now the town is pretty desolate and we could definitely use some new businesses to help the economy grow again. I'm hopeful that your future plans will bring this area to life again!
Louie, you may have thought of the idea of the Jacuzzi, but our Dad designed the Gazebo it's in; a friend of mine here in Oroville welded up the steel bracket that the roof beams tie into at the top, and then I took a month off work, came up from Oroville and helped Dad and you build it. It was family project, like many improvements were then! You should have told Ben about the rock retaining wall behind the cabins that you and Dad built--I think you were in High School then. Yes, it was a wonderful place to grow up in--and Ben the main driveway is on top of the Oregon-California trail. It went across the freeway, past the elementary school grounds and up to Brown's Lake, I never traced it any farther though.
BEEN CLOSE FRIENDS WITH THIS FAMILY SINCE 1982.. SPENT MANY HOLIDAYS WITH THE DEWEY'S... AT CAVE SPRINGS, TOOK SUMMER DIPS IN THE POOL, OUR CHILDREN RODE HORSES AND PLAYED TOGETHER. I MET THEM WHEN I STRTED TO TAKE JAZZ DANCE CLASSES WITH LOUIE DEWEY.

Louie and Belinda are legends!

So cool! Thank you for the message!
We love the Deweys! Our family has been going annually since the 1960s.
