Come little leaves said the wind one day is one of my favorite songs for fall. And since fall is officially here, I thought I'd share it with you. I recorded this a while ago (when my hair was still long!) as a puppet story, but I've also used it as a circle song. If you want to do that, just act it out!
It's one of those songs that creates such a lovely Autumn mood--I'll share a few more of my faves in the coming weeks.
Here are the words (this poem is in the public domain):
Come, Little Leaves
by
George Cooper
“Come, little leaves,” said the wind one day,
“Come o'er the meadows with me and play;
Put on your dresses of red and gold,
For summer is gone and the days grow cold.”
Soon as the leaves heard the wind’s loud call,
Down they came fluttering, one and all;
Over the fields they danced and flew,
singing the sweet little songs they knew.
Dancing and whirling, the little leaves went;
Winter had called them, and they were content;
soon, fast asleep in their earthy beds,
The snow laid a coverlet over their heads.
There are 2 more verses to this song that you can look up if you want, but I've always just used these 3 (I didn't even know there were more until I looked it up just now!)
I hope you enjoy it--and thanks for stopping by!
xoxo
