Awesome I live on the salmon river that branches of the ct river in Moodus. My dad and I saw carp spawning where the was hundreds of carp on the surface
A couple years back we had a major fun I think it was spring and we are walking along the shore at Riverside Park up in the Meadows area of Hartford and there was a little pool that had been informed and a low-lying area after the water receded pretty big pool and it ended up being probably a 15-20 pound goldfish it looks like a common carp butt it was the same coloring as a goldfish and then a few feet further down there wasn't even bigger one swimming around in another Pool that one we didn't play with but it was wild I don't know what's going on in this River
I cought my fist carp on the Connecticut River this week a 30 pounder on my bass rig 8 pound test with a dead minnow. It took a half an hour to bring in I loved every second of it!
wow congrats! carp are a surprise sport fish not often you go for bass and get a bigger fight than you were looking for!! very thankful for our growing trophy carp fishery
Hey guys! Great video! So here is the question. If you could get ONE rod, a surf rod or a carp rod, which would it be and why? Carp rods tend to be softer, but on big rivers, that have stripers like the Delaware or hudson, I don't see why I can't use a surf rod? Trying to get a versatile rod, and leaning towards a St. Croix mojo surf, 10'6" 3/4 - 4 oz, and think it will cover my carp fishing as well?
I've used non carp-specialized surf rods that work just fine for big carp in CT. Funny story is the largest Carp I ever caught was probably around 30 pounds on a 6 foot trout rod/reel loaded with 6lb test. (Fight was about 20 minutes?) To answer your question - the St. Croix Mojo Surf rod would work just fine for a versatile rod that can handle carp. The experts might tell you that it is too "fast" or "stiff" for pure carp fishing but as long as you have play in the drag you can haul them in without ripping the hook out of their mouth like this video suggests. I've landed many carp on such surf rods with faster/stiffer actions than the St. Croix Mojo Surf - which is a great rod.
Don't confuse these common carp with the Asian carp (the ones that jump when hearing boat engines). The Asian carp are the problem species. The common carp being caught here have been in the USA for over 150 years. They were introduced deliberately as a food source when the native fish became over fished. They are a great sport fish when they're feeding. Some of them fight like you wouldn't believe. Hope Elcapitanmas doesn't mind you guys pinching his place.
If any species is introduced by man (accidentally or deliberately) to a body of water and is able to reproduce and is non-native, that makes the species invasive.
carp was introduced in the 1800s as a food source. There is a huge misconception about Asian carp & the common carp. Please get educated folks dont follow the crowd. Carp fishing is a wonderful sport. Please save the common carp in America.
Leexfam for a purpose doesnt make it less natural. They didnt evolve alongside the aquatic life here. And there’s no way to know how many let alone all the species that were affected. I love common carp but they really dont belong. The Asian carp is a different problem altogether.
Nice carp action. I caught a 28 inch 15 pound carp from the Chemung river in Elmira NY this year I released it back into the river. I also have a video on youtube it is titled Robert Gildea preaches. I put the video on youtube to reach the youth of America with touretes syndrome with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus. People with touretes can understand the Gospel touretes is nueralogical not mental. Great video good education thank you what was that location on the connecticut river?
Only if you get caught ;)
Chester ferry in the background. Location doesn't matter they are everywhere out here.
Do you by chance have links to the Rods, Reels, Alarms, and stands you were using?
www.bigcarptackle.com
is it possible to fish there at night?
Yes. And some serious carp fishermen do.
No! It's 100% private property. Pd will be called
Where is this place?
Near the Chester - Hadlyme ferry.
Thank you for help
How far are you able to cast with a 12ft rod and the shimano 8000?
180 easy, 200 if the wind is behind you!
Was this the same host who was in "Best in Show"?

It's not a trash fish but it _is_ a non-native, invasive species. I've seen them spawning and they turn clear water into chocolate milk.

So does a half inch of rain

@@tolpacourt They were brought here for a purpose! Is Champagne invasive?

Great fertilizer, too.
Had a blast fishing on the CT river! Watch it here! th-cam.com/video/l9aTIqavQUY/w-d-xo.html

That record is way off for a common.
Until u go..u’ll wanna become a pro
why release them ugly things? make some fish patties out of them. don't worry, the fewer carp there are, the bigger they get.
