Isch bin dort gewesse!
...in Min 36 the speaker describes the absolute hype from about 200.000 Wiesbadeners and visitors who all came for just one quick view and salute to J.F.K - he must have felt like Messias and I, just 16, adored him like a popstar and more - he was Germanys and Europes hope for protection and much more... representing youth and glamour. The scene in front of Steuben Hotel still is in my memories as a few hundred fans, most young as well, stayed till dark in the park before ,,staring at the windows @ 4th floor - and once or twice J.F.K. took a short peek on these crowds across the street cheering rhytmicly... Kennedy! Kennedy!....and his friendly wave back imediatly caused an enourmous "roooooaaar" - it ws said by advisors, if Kennedy ever was up for another election...? he should start his campain in Germany! And spontane and sadly the Wiesbaden folks gathered at same spot, the Steuben Hotel, with torches and flowers - the November night 1963 after his assesination, just a few month later.
They were very much aware that the US president was taken to places that the Anglo-Saxons had not bombed into ruins and desert. Jackie was expecting a baby (which later became a tragic end) so she stayed home. Jackie's stay away was good for the president because she could not steal the show.
