    A. The pixel 9 pro XL has been the best smartphone experience I've had in recent memory. The latest crop of Samsung and iPhones May theoretically have higher performance, but they just don't "feel" as good.

I've had my pixel 9 pro XL that I bought through T-Mobile since day one of being released. I have had nothing but a good experience with software, battery life and build quality. I keep mine also in a minimal case and I do take it out every once in awhile to give it a wipe down. And I have virtually zero scratches or blemishes in any of the polished framework of my phone. As for side buttons, I have zero rattle. They are tight and firm it's definitely knight and day better quality difference from my last phone I had which was a iPhone 15 pro. It's also better than my wife 's brand new iPhone 16 pro. She will be switching to the pixel 9 pro XL in the near future

The Pixel 9 Pro XL is great. The Google environment so well integrated. But after spending 999 Euros I expected a smoother experience, to be honest. Just to be clear, the phone is ultra fast like 95% percent of the day. But in some situations, small lags, some glitches in switching between apps and home happens. Plus, the Google Photo and Gallery apps, together with X are very hard to use without seeing major problems, and yeah, even the Camera app is quite laggy. I don't know, I just hope is something linked with the software and not the hardware... Because my wish is to keep this device for the next couple of years

Thanks for this long-term review. The apparent "nit-picking and whining" is completely justified at the price Google has set for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. It is an $800 phone, at best, priced at $1100. While I really enjoy mine, a large part of that is because I got it for around $650 through my carrier's discount. However, if I had paid full price I would be a lot less happy. The OnePlus 13 or 12 offer more value in several ways, even if not as universally recognized.

I am happy with mine. It gives me a similar feeling as using my last Pixel, the 3 XL. Not the same (I weirdly loved the bathtub notch) but then again that was the past, this is now. I'm sure in another half a decade I'll miss this phone, too.

91 battery cycles here, had it since Sept '24. Still 0 complaints with the battery though. Would probably have about as much with any other phone out there. I never let it go below 30% for the most part but also never charge above 80%. My routine has so many wireless chargers that anywhere I work my phone is usually on a stand slowly charging again.

There are a lot of hardcore Pixel fans, so this review may hurt their appreciation. But I tend to agree. Pixels used to be a good choice despite the weak SoC because of the valued pricing, cameras and software. None of these are now relevant. It is priced higher than many flagships, including the OP13, and the same as iPhones, so it has to be compared with these. It falls way short due to the chip, the cameras no longer being class leaders, and the software sold to anyone who will pay
My Pixel 8 Pro has been buggy on and off, but Android 15 solved many issues, from poor thermals to battery life, so that was laudable. Diehard Pixel fans, like iPhone and Samsung fans, will continue to support their brand choice, but the sparkle has gone for me. The Pixel is now just another choice in a crowded market with very little that makes you jump up and say, "I want that".

The Pixel 9s are still the camera leaders, there's no arguing that. It's unfortunate that you had problems with your Pixel 8, my 8 was one of the best phones I ever had and no iPhone nor Samsung could match the photo quality and in most cases, video quality that it took. Now using a 9 Pro XL and I've had nothing but good things to say about it, It's well worth the full asking price.

Am I the only one that is disappointed in the customizability? Why can't I remove the search bar at the bottom, or change its location? Why do I have to have the stupid "at a glance" in my homepage? Why can't I set a specific page as my homepage? I know most of this can be changed by using a different launcher but I feel like it should be included options standard in the phone.

I hope Google engineers and designers watch this video. The issues you’re highlighting are major pain points for Apple users like myself who are considering switching. In fact, I actually am! But small details-like the buttons and the awkward-looking space at the top due to the notch-still make Apple’s hardware feel a bit more refined and smoother. Software is a different story, but even there, your complaints are valid.
So, Google, please, please watch these videos and take them into account!

Pixel phones have really come into their own in the last few years. I'm currently daily driving the 9 Pro Fold and while it's a fantastic device, there are some quirks about Pixel phones that need addressing. I don't find its mobile connections to be as solid as my previous Samsung phones. It tends to lag on connections and drops connections with a weaker signal, especially indoors and also get more garbled voice calls. Bluetooth connections are good, but can become problematic at times. I also get odd behaviors when connecting my car to wireless Android Auto where calls appear connected to the carrs audio, but they are actually answered on the handset. This has caused me headaches quite a lot on more than one car I've tested on. Also, when exiting my car, the music I am playing switches back to the phone and plays for about two seconds before shutting off, which is something I've not experienced with any other Android phone. Still, it's a great device and I enjoy using it.

The point of 7 years of update is not to keep the phone 7 years, it is for those who don't want to spend a fortune on a phone to be able to buy it in year 3 or 4 at a big discount and to be able to still use it a few years. But I got your point. I still have a pixel 6 in the family and it is running like in day one or very close to it, compared with others (like Samsung) which become very laggy from Year two.

I've owned every pixel Android phone since the Nexus 6p. In between those phones I have bought the Samsung s 20 ultra s21 ultra s22 ultra s23 ultra. I have also in that time owned a Huawei p30 Pro. I always go back to the pixel. For camera reasons Samsung always oversaturated but with the new s25 ultra it seems like it's getting better. I don't play games because I'm a grown ass man but I use everything else on the phone. So I don't need the latest and greatest CPU. I always get a solid picture with my pixel phones. Never mind call screening, call recorder, and all the extras that come with pixel phones are great. I'm hoping that the pixel 10 Pro will get all new camera hardware to compete with the new batch of high-end Chinese phones coming out with great hardware.

If I'm taking low light video, I toggle video boost on real quick, it makes a huge difference. But if the lighting is good I don't bother because the difference is minimal. It would be cool if it was just automatic though.

My S24 Ultra has been caseless for a year dropped it and nothing same with 16 and 15 Pro. Camera is great and the AI features are cool.

I have the standard pixel 9 pro not the xl but its basically the same phone just smaller. Im not sure if im the only one but I always seem to have major issues with the cameras pulling focus on close up objects and it's extremely frustrating and takes so many attempts for me to actually capture a photo that's in focus. Regular photos are fine, but this is the first phone I've had that I've had this issue with and man its super frustrating.

So he can never appreciate fully the women he's talking too. I understand it though LOL considering you're one of the top tech guys with just Android in mind. This is the most hardware we've gotten in one package from Google and I've been with them since the HTC G1 days LOL. I think Android 16 will shut down all the biasedness left from this phone.

The pixel has all these options about Pro Recording and night mode, and pwrsonally i would rather the phone decide what i need. Maybe this will come with AI prediction or something.
