I've always been a Korg workstation fan....but holy friggin' hell, this new Roland is a Korg Nautilus killer! Finally....Roland creates a workstation that Korg can't possibly compete with....as I think the Fantom-0 series is the very best workstation ever created(in terms of features for the price.)
Korg Kronos triumphed the Korg workstation architecture with ridiculously complex UI and soul sucking workflow. The Fantom06 is a Nautilus killer but is it a Kronos killer? That Roland workflow and actually useful sequencer beats the Kronos because Korg went for specs not workflow.
@@__teles__ I mentioned the Nautilus, as like the Fantom-0...they're both slightly scaled down version of their respective flagship models. I never bought the Kronos or Nautilus, because I felt they were both overpriced for what they offered. Like you mentioned, both Korg's workflow are not great & the boot up times are terribly long. I wanted the flagship Fantom...but the price is way beyond my budget & being that I mainly use a PC DAW...I just could not justify spending a year saving up money, just so that I could safely make monthly payments on a Fantom for the next year to follow. Since I missed having a hardware keyboard, I was just going to settle for a Korg Kross 2....but then the Fantom-0 popped up a couple of days ago and I did not see this coming. It's truly shocking that the Roland Fantom-0 offers so much more than the Nautilus & for less money. That said, I do think the Fantom-0 is a Kronos killer as well( the Kronos is discontinued anyway...according to their website.)
It's a rather obvious (and repeated) version of events. Fantom comes. Fantom 'lite' 0 comes. Just as Montage spawned the Modx 'lite' version. Meanwhile Kronos wound down. Nautilus arrived as the midrange doorstop to make use of the aging engines with a new and easy to access UI and coat of paint. No different than these. What remains to be seen; and as usual what they wait for; is what comes when every other brand has played its hand. The new Korg Flagship tier. Or 'Kronos 3' to use that as a placeholder until the real one is announced. In usual Korg fashion, they will then go back into hiding. Because the unit will be so laughably expensive and overpowered you won't want anything else. For another...decade... Cycle repeat.
@@HighlandStudio91 i had the same issue and i ordered fantom07 yesterday. I wanted fantom 7 badly for aftertouch and analog filter but the price is like double just to have those features?
@@Judasz696 I've heard plenty of VST's that could emulate analog warmth perfectly and being that the Fantom-0 series's filters are high resolution(1,024 steps of adjustment, rather than just 128)...I think you'll be very happy with the sound. As for aftertouch(I don't miss it personally) & unless you use aftertouch for a live situation, I don't think you'll miss aftertouch too much(especially since you'll have a pitch/mod stick, pitch/mod wheels & 2 fx buttons that are assignable.)
This looks like an updated FA06 which I bought and sold five years ago due to the lengthy menu diving and it trying to do so many things (sampler, sequencer, synth) but not achieving any of this to a convincing degree. I wanted to love it. Would like to know what the differences are 9n this 'new' release.
Nice showcase video... I've just come back to composing music after a 12 year break.. so I'm from the Motifxs, Korg M3 and M50 era.. when we had knobs and buttons as our workflow.. so I love my fantom.. however, long before linear sequencers, we had the ancient drum machines way of step sequences (TR808, 909, DX7) so I'm baffled why all the developers, apart from KORG, have gone back to that old 1980s idea of step sequences.. Strange, although I like the removal of Modes.. to just all one integrated workflow.. I did buy a MODX, but the constant deep dive menu after menu after screen after screen of using it drove me crazy.. and the cheap plastic feel keybed of Modx wasn't my favourite, but I did like Yamahas new sequencer in v.2.5. i just hope Roland see sense and update the fantom seq, because there are times when there's just you and the keyboard and your inspiration.. messing with a computer every session is just a waste of time.. good video though 😊
Mek mi ask u if a Jamaica you come from. And if so, wha part? Mi com from Kingston 11. Mi madda from Hanover and mi big broda grew up in Port Antonio. Big up fi di nice vidoe!
Couple questions can someone help me? Can you record on this keyboard if so how many instruments can you joint together and how many tracks can you save to the memory bank ?
Hey bro I just got my 06 and I’m trying see if this thing have a way to set your Scale and Key to write your song to cause I don’t see anything or function tht applies tht
Thx for review! How easy or hard is it to a) Change volume / mix of each instrument in split mode b) Change octave of each instrument in split mode I "downgraded" from Roland FA06 to DS61, as it was too much menu diving on FA06, whereas direct and easy on DS. I know Fantom-0 is "workstation", not "performance" keyboard, but it's so light it's tempting to use it for both :->
I own Motif XF and Korg M3. I use to play Motif Perf and Korg Karma Combis. How does this compare for Multi performance? Does it have real-time performance arranger scene switching or is it only basic arps + layer + pattern sequencer? If it has real-time scene switch Perf mode like Motif XF I’m interested!
The workstation on this is so amazing. The technology is perfect too, the main reason I want to purchase it. But is the sound engine as good as the FA 06. The integra 7 sound engine feature on the FA is hard engine to go up against (Personally). Really want to be convinced to get this board because of the workstation. It’s so much better vs the fa 0’s, in my opinion. But idk about the sound engine on the Fantom 0’s And no stores carry them where I can play around with both smh.
Great review! this was well explained and i really liked how the musician brings it all to life! Wonderful channel as well, so many info, do subscribe!
When they lower that price way to high does it have a lot of effects cause I think it cool to sequence on if it can but where the flavor would ya Ultimate have to add more equipment or can you be self-contained production like an MPC or Polyend tracker I get it if you play the piano but I’m talking from like a production Sandpoint
SonicVibe420 Price too high? Are you high? You are smoking way too much 420...as you have idea what the Roland Fantom-0 is offering for $1,500(why don't you pay attention to these product videos & study the specs and LEARN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE before you make a post. If you want something for less money, than go buy a f**king Casio keyboard & STFU.
It kind of amuses me that people nit pick at this level, once spin a time a keyboard like the Korg the Roland the Yamaha would cost thousands, these boards all sound amazing so buy them all and quit bitching and write some music!
This kind of keyboard is perfect for those who use software. Not too pricey at 1.5k, but with seamless integration with Mainstage and Ableton means anyone can use this board as a midi controller, audio interface, synth or a sampler. It helps in streamling a soft-synth setup as it does many things in one package.
@@ablesam good point ! That’s why I’m surprised even a Yamaha P125 has usb audio support for iOS and somehow this board in 2022 doesn’t have iOS support 🤦🏽♂️… music has gone mobile over the last few years so it’s not just Mac and windows anymore. I mean the MODX8 is in same league as this but has the feature and so does montage. The P125 is from 2018 though. So Roland has had enough years to actually learn a thing or two.
