Out of every 'gadget' review channel on youtube, this one is by far my favorite. Tac-amp will cause permanent hearing damage, and the range of sound they amplify is useless for any tactical purpose. It's too poorly filtered (noisy) to safely use as a Personal Sound Amplifying Device. I am a former hearing aid technician. Please don't buy these, or you will be a customer of the real hearing aids, and they are EXPENSIVE.
Also any decent amplified plugs/headsets tend to have a compression or cutoff mode which turns off the amplitude if noise above 80db is detected (or in compression mode. Any noise over 80db is reduced in volume to about 75db to avoid accidental hearing damage from gunshots etc)
Omg, youre so right. I still have my blue 3 fold with velcro, stashed in a box somewhere. I (cant remember off the top of my head) believe it has a Donald Duck picture on it. 😂😂
Maybe they didn't bother making the tac pen rechargeable because the flashlight is really just an excuse to carry a defensive weapon. Many countries prohibit carrying a weapon, even if it's for defensive purposes. Making it a "flashlight" gives some kind of plausible excuse. @@PeachysMom most defensive pens I've seen are used as blunt objects or with the glass smasher point. They're generally used to hit someone in the face or throat. I've not seen any that include a knife... That would be quite hard to justify in many countries.

Or "artisan" to give you the impression that this thing was made the "traditional" way when in reality it came off an assembly line like everything else.

I love watching this channel so much and I really don’t know why lol I’m not buying none of this but this guy just makes this channel awesome keep up good work! 👍
There's a flaw in the screwdriver that you may not have noticed. The screwdriver housing screws into the rest of the flashlight. Normally it screws in towards the right. So while you're tightening screws the housing does not untwist because it'll go against the tightening. You'll have a hard time unscrewing though screws tho, as the screwdriver part will unscrew from the rest of the flashlight.
I’ve had an Allet for 15 years. Thin, durable. Still going strong. Clark Howard recommended it actually. You can keep it in your front pocket. A real back saver.
As someone who uses hearing aids, the humming sound you hear is the sound of the receiver. My right side is about 70% loss and my left is only about 5% which is normal. Usually if you use a hearing aid they recommend using 2. When we put in the one on the left side, that hum was very apparent.
I think for any multi purpose tool, it needs to do a few main functions amazingly well and the others can be "useable" given they aren't meant to be used frequently
Not really related to this video, but since you mentioned it several times; I just wanted to thank you for the Allet recommendation from your other video. I bought one based off that and am very pleased with it.
A bit off topic but I bought the Allet wallet based on your last wallet reviews and I can say after 8 months of use that I love it It's held up and i love how the cards fit in to keep it nice and thin, You sold me on it!

I’m also interested in the wallet your currently using. I wish TH-cam had a better search function. Keep up the great work!
I ordered three tac pens and they came in what I would consider the "standard" Bell and Howell Tac box, much larger than what was shown in the review. Mine did not come with the safety cover for the glass breaker. Without the cover you can screw the loose end over the glass breaker while using the pen, which can be unscrewed and it looks to take "standard" refills.
Yay, but that bow was not even close to the power of a real war bow. So even if you were fighting the medieval French and were shot in the butt, I really doubt it would protect you. 😉
Missed opportunity to use the glass breaker on the ice block. But it seems like the tac pen is something to toss in your glovebox and be happy it's there if you ever need it. I'm sure there are better options - but if it was a gift or you grab it from the store as an afterthought on your road trip. Decent enough.
Before you even got to the magnetic grab of the screwdrivers i was thinking surely they could magnetize the cap to stick to the bottom when using the screwdrivers right?
Instead of a tac pen, I'd go for a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. Many models have a flashlight, pen, and multiple screwdrivers in a much smaller package (they also come with knives and amazing scissors). They have excellent fit and finish as well as fancy/beautiful designs. If you want durability, you can get the alox (aluminum oxide) models which have a really fancy look or the more traditional cellidor models if you want the toothpick and tweezers (plus scales also come with a pin and a pen)
Not surprised the the Tac Amp was noisy. That's typical of very inexpensive amplifiers of all types, although this one does seem worse than most. It did make your voice louder also when you did the demo with your microphone, but as you said, sounded a bit "tinny". But I wear very expensive (over $5000) hearing aids and they also make voices and music sound a bit tinny. That is because they boost the higher frequencies more because that is where my hearing is most deficient--seems like they just overdo the high frequencies. But the other factor is the size of what they call the "receiver" which is actually the tiny speaker or traducer that generates the sound. Nothing that small (about the size of a large grain of rice) is ever going to give a wide range of sound, I think. Anyway, good reviews of all these Tac products. Keep it up. I like watching your vids.
I *might* get the tac pen. I work in a chemical plant and we're not allowed to bring in "unapproved tools* but a writing utensil in my pocket won't raise any eyebrows. A simple flashlight, screwdriver, and something sturdy enough to hammer on/pry with is all I'd want it for. Oh, and it can write. I do a lot of writing. It sucks because I bought a knifeless leatherman multitool and was told I cant bring it in. But something like this seems a bit more stealth.
Ha, you beat me to it. I was going to mention that Seinfeld episode with George's thick wallet. 😄 Well, it still beats the one where Jerry carried a purse. Seinfeld: It's not a purse, it's European!
You have finally demonstrated what wearing a low cost hearing aide sounds like, nobody can ever understand why i hate wearing my hearing aide, I'd rather hear nothing than that seashell echoing wind tunnel noise, thanks, I'm going to refer everyone to your video whenever they bug me about it
I always believed that the reason these amplifiers are sold is to give to people an alternative to hearing aids. Hearing aids are very expensive and health insurance companies normally don't pay for them. So these amplifiers are made to look like hearing aids and advertised like they're better. James mentioned that they only give on amplifier in the package. That's probably done that way to cut down the cost and make extra money if someone actually likes it and wants it for both ears. It's because of James is why I switched from the traditional wallet to the Allet wallet. Best wallet I ever used. Bought it 7 months ago and it still holds up.
If you need to undo a tight screw I can imagine the pen unscrewing whatever section you are gripping,or for that matter if you tighten a scew you may have trouble unscewing parts of the Tacpen
If in a pinch you’re most likely going to use the screw driver portion of the Tac Pen to remove a screw not put one in. That being said, if you used it to remove a screw, would the other sections of the Tac Pen start to come apart?
The "ocean waves" you hear is the blood flowing through your ear.

Yeah... I got that amplifier from Lidl (that exact piece of shait) The signal to noise figure is absolutely ridiculous. I hoped it would be a _good enough_ hearing aid for an old and poor neighbor I have. It also drains the battery within 24 hours when set to minimum. No way to turn it off except removing the battery. No way to leave it to an elder. I payed about $8.
James can you review Walker Bluetooth electronic ear pro? I got a set and really like the electronic ear pro feature. Not only cause I work at a gun store with a shooting range but they also have the ability to amplify sounds while still cutting out anything overly loud. And the sound seems more full range than the Tac ones. Also the Bluetooth feature is nice I can listen to music turned down and set the ear pro to ambient/normal conversation level and ear booth perfectly. Be nice to see your opinion on them!!

Bought it 7 months ago and it still holds up.
the tac amplifier does make a good voice mixer/changer
love the old radio broadcaster voice change
If you need to undo a tight screw I can imagine the pen unscrewing whatever section you are gripping,or for that matter if you tighten a scew you may have trouble unscewing parts of the Tacpen
That tac wallet would be good for keeping hunting or fishing permits and tags!
When will as seen on tv understand they need to hire this guy :3
Pen lights are commonly used in EMS for pen lights to shine in the eyes. It's a good thing it's not so bright.
This channel is very interesting I love seeing all these products I know I'm never gonna buy instead of wasting my money on them
If in a pinch you’re most likely going to use the screw driver portion of the Tac Pen to remove a screw not put one in. That being said, if you used it to remove a screw, would the other sections of the Tac Pen start to come apart?
The Contortionist and Tesseract? You have great taste in music.
That cream soda looked so good I would’ve liked it to be frozen.. slushy 🤤🤤
Wow only 2k to go to 500k! Cant wait to see! 👍
The "ocean waves" you hear is the blood flowing through your ear.
Yeah... I got that amplifier from Lidl (that exact piece of shait)
The signal to noise figure is absolutely ridiculous. I hoped it would be a _good enough_ hearing aid for an old and poor neighbor I have.
It also drains the battery within 24 hours when set to minimum. No way to turn it off except removing the battery.
No way to leave it to an elder. I payed about $8.
I bought the lumintop, thank you very much.
wow
that pen is something else.
My mom wrecked her hearing using something similar to the tac ear for _years_ instead of buying a real hearing aid.
I love your tesseract shirt brother.
Hi James!
THANKS for ALL of your TAC reviews. IMHO, the tactical thing to do would be to avoid these cheesy products.
I would hate to hear about someone trying to use the Tac Pen's whistle to ward off an attacker, pulling out a screwdriver by mistake.
Perhaps this is why all the arbitration paperwork has been included...
👍👍👍 😷STAY😷SAFE😷 🎃STAY🎃GHOUL🎃 😎😎😎
What about new philips and straight blade tips if they round off?
James...please have mercy on Bailey's ears 😉. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE! 🍁🎃🍂
Nice George Costanza reference. I was just thinking of that before you mention it.
